  1. Snagged an 87 flex P92 1X Lite yesterday after trying it at the Own the Moment store compared to last year's 1X. Marked/noticeable improvement. We'll see how longevity is!
  2. My 8 year old step daughter told me this week she wants to join the Youth Learn to Play program at my rink, SUPER excited! She already loves skating and we have a blast going together, but I'm really hopeful that she'll take a liking to the sport as well! My wife and I have another on the way, due in January and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to teaching he/she how to skate as well.
  3. More upgrades! I'm not going to say I think that I'm done because it's an addiction, but I'm really happy with my current setup. Helmet: Bauer IMS 11.0 Visor: Bauer HDO Pro-Clip Straight Shoulder pads: Bauer Vapor APX2 Elbow pads: Bauer Vapor APX2 Gloves: Bauer Vapor APX2 Pants: Bauer Vapor APX2 Shin pads: Bauer Vapor APX2 Skates: Bauer Supreme S180 + Bauer Speed Plate Stick: True a5.2 85 Flex TC2
  4. What an incredible story! If that isn't the definition of "love thy neighbor", I don't know what is. It's so awesome to see you get back to your passion!
  5. If what you have fits you and you like it, I'd keep it to save some cash!
  6. For me, the shin guards were the single biggest "felt" or tangible upgrade from the three. I went from Nexus 4000s to these and they are WAY more comfortable and protective. The most notable upgrade was the strapping system used on the APX2, definitely more comfortable than my Nexus'. As as far as the fit compared to the CCMs, I'm not sure, maybe someone else can comment on that. I'm 6'0" and 195 lbs and I'm wearing the 14" version. I prefer wearing my shin pads behind my skate tongues and these fit me perfectly with my S180s.
  7. I'd been taping my sticks up to this point, but I decided to give Tacki-Macs a try. Woah, these things are pretty awesome! I figured why not if I could extend the life on the palms of my fancy new APX2s. I'm a convert now.
  8. I feel like I've been blowing this thread up lately, which is pretty detrimental on my wallet. But, I got the LAST pieces of equipment and now I'm totally comfortable with my new setup. APX2 protective gear came in. Can't wait to try it all out, especially going from entry level equipment to a bunch of APX2 stuff with 37.5.
  9. Well, that didn't take long. I sold some of my current gear today so that forced me to upgrade. I scooped the awesome deals on APX2 protective stuff, so my new list is: Helmet: Bauer IMS 11.0 Visor: Bauer RBE I Shoulder pads: Bauer Vapor APX2 Elbow pads: Bauer Vapor APX2 Gloves: Bauer Vapor APX2 Pants: Bauer Nexus 400 Shin pads: Bauer Vapor APX2 Skates: Bauer Supreme S180 + Bauer Speed Plate Stick: True A4.5 95 flex TC2 and True A4.5 95 flex TC4
  10. Another upgrade showed up today! APX2 gloves to replace my X60s... WHAT an upgrade, wow!
  11. I just generally felt uncomfortable and HOT in the 5.0 while playing. The 11.0 has a better overall fit (for my head type at least) and puts much less pressure on the points where I was having issues with the 5.0. That, and it seems to vent a lot better and keep me cool(er). I got mine from my LHS for about $150ish, and while that's quite a bit, it's well worth the money.
  12. Helmet: Bauer IMS 11.0 Visor: Bauer RBE I Shoulder pads: Bauer Supreme One.4 Elbow pads: Bauer Nexus 4000 Gloves: Bauer Vapor APX2 Pants: Bauer Nexus 400 Shin pads: Bauer Nexus 4000 Skates: Bauer Supreme S180 + Bauer Speed Plate Stick: True A4.5 95 flex TC2 and True A4.5 95 flex TC4 I'm upgrading stuff one piece at a time. I'm happy with my sticks, skates, gloves and helmet for the moment. I'm thinking next on the list is shoulder pads, elbow pads, and shin pads.
  13. Forgot to snag a picture a few weeks ago, but I swapped from an IMS 5.0 with a cage to an IMS 11.0 with a half shield. WAY more comfortable.
  14. All by my lonesome last week at a stick and puck. Sometimes it's fun to just skate around by yourself!
  15. Agreed! They put so much marketing effort into Vapor and Supreme releases, I'm curious why they don't with the Nexus line.
  16. I just happened to hear a Bauer skate fitter/salesman say it at the Own The Moment store yesterday in Burlington, MA. Not sure how true it is, I'd like to think it holds some merit since he works for Bauer.
  17. I overheard a Bauer rep say June 10th today while I was getting my Supremes.
  18. I had mine baked at the store and skated in them this afternoon for the first time. They're phenomenal so far!
  19. I dropped a 1/2 size in my new S180s compared to my Nexus skates too.
  20. Scooped some new Supreme S180s today. I had been in Nexus' per a recommendation by a local shop and they just weren't working for my foot shape. I finally found a shop that was willing to spend some time with me and tried a whole bunch of skates out. Landed on these. Ended up with a set of Speed Plates too, here's to hoping they don't crack!
  21. Hahaha I'm still relatively new to the game, so I'm on a steep learning curve! Point taken, though. No problem!
  22. I can't comment on the similarity of lack thereof with other 28s because this is my first of this pattern, but I can show you some pictures. I've already taped up the blade, but next time I re-tape, I'll try to remember to get some more photos it someone else can't answer your question.
  23. It's more like 10 minutes per, but who's counting!
  24. Thanks! I spend entirely too much time on my tape jobs, it's a character fault of being obsessed with details.
