  1. I just noticed yours look slightly different than mine. Specifically in the heel of the skate. You can see the differences in my video and IG pics.
  2. Interesting you went with LS holders, not LS Edge or VH/Step holders. Any reason why?
  3. Very wrong. A little concerning.
  4. That's shocking. I haven't baked mine yet and I can barely get my foot into the skate. It reminds me of the Mako II is so many ways. All of which are good.
  5. I did an unboxing and initial Impressions review of True skates but will be doing a baking and profiling video this weekend. I like to use a tension wrap and clamps anytime I bake my skates.
  6. 165 grams is substantial. Did they both have Tuuk runners with Step steel? Steel is usually the biggest weight factor in skates.
  7. I have them. You can see them in my video.
  8. I didn't find many video reviews of the True skates so I decided to make an unboxing video. I am also going to record a video on baking them and profiling the steel. Will also make on ice reviews and some others videos as well depending on what people want to see. I I would have merged this with the main True/VH thread but felt it was unique and as such should have its own thread.
  9. I also would like to see an updated pic of the heel.
  10. I highly recommend suing ratchet clamps when baking if you want to get the best fit possible. You can buy them from your local Home Depot or Lowes, or if there is a Harbor Freight near you there are substantially cheaper. I purchased mine from Harbor Freight for about $4.99 each.
  11. Why is channel depth irrelevant? Not arguing, just wondering why you feel that way? If I put a ZC on a set of steel and later sharpen the steel again without cutting a new ZC, some ZC still showing but not as deep as new, I can feel a significant bite difference.
  12. You can adjust the ProSharp to correct pitch. I am going to be making a video shortly discussing ProSharp profiling.
  13. So going from a traditional 5/8" with a wide ZC I should be able to go with a 1" roughly? What about ZC depth?
  14. What is the effect of the difference in width/depth of Z Channels? I currently use a 3/4 ROH with a wide ZC on a Quad 2 and have been considering fiddling around with my setup.
  15. I pray one day Bauer will wake up and make a skate with technology from the Mako but I think they have their head up their ass and that won't happen anytime soon. Bauer also thinks that one piece skates are bad too. So much for innovation. Though, you can argue, if it ain't broke what's their to fix?
  16. Think I will use Testors transparent smoke color. Kind of like what I used on my FT1.
  17. Las Vegas ice has a pro shop with Mako II skates in various sizes. For those looking for a pair.
  18. Can you order True skates without the ugly "chrome wing" on the side?
  19. I have been trying to find a pair of the Mako II skates for a long time.... Anything in a common size 7-9 are almost impossible to find online new or used. Best bet is to check out smaller local shops.
  20. Digging up an older thread. I have recently been playing around with various profiles and sharpenings. A friend recently purchased a Pro Sharp machine and I now have the ability to mess around with the Quad 0, 1, and 2 profiling. As I used ZC in the past, I wanted to give it a try again. From what I remember when going at slow speeds or cruising it felt like the steel had no grip in the ice, almost like you are floating on top. It was only when you engaged the edges that the steel would bite into the ice. The feeling of floating on the ice was unusual to me and I could not adapt to it but reading through this thread it seems perhaps I should have gone with a different width and depth of ZC sharpening. I personally don't feel any benefits between FBV and a standard ROH and skate on a fairly flat radius, 5/8" on hard ice and 3/4" on soft ice. I cant find specific details and was hoping someone could point me to some documentation or articles I could read about the various ZC combinations and such. Since I am doing this all myself I appreciate any information that others can share. Thanks in advance.
  21. Dang it. I was really hoping to see a "how to" for putting that H in the back of my $1000 skates! Now I will just have to try it myself so I can get maximum flex! lol
  22. I am literally stumped looking at the H Cut. Before I go on a rant saying "you ruined a pair of $800+ skates for why!?" I would also like to hear more about this. I have never once seen a pro or novice with such and I have played at all levels of hockey.
  23. I wonder what composite they use that is different compared to a Super Tack or JetSpeed skate. I guess it could also be the glue and such as well and not just the composite. In my JetSpeeds, I started to get sweaty and began worrying around 3 minutes. I feel like 3 minutes was not nearly enough time for the skate to bake fully so it wrapped the contour of my entire foot and ankle.
  24. Looks at his pic, it says 15-20 min.
