  1. Some of my old gear..I buy new stuff, but never stray from the old..I dunno why..More pics to come
  2. Not the best pics but some of my gear..
  3. I find that my skates become less "sharp" the more fatigued I get
  4. Everyone has an opinion on how their gear should "look." Personally, I dont give a shit either way..Sticks are sticks..and if they perform well..then great..I've never checked someone else's stick on the ice.. As for gear, I think we all tend to prioritize what we spend on equipment unless you're new to the game and get suckered into have top shelf gear from helmet down to the skates. I spend most of my $$$ on skates (which isnt much compared to some) and gloves..Things that I like to be comfortable in. I go cheap on shoulder pads..(cheaper ones are more comfortable anyways) and pants.. At this stage in my life, I dont need a $150 pair of breezers, but something functional and protective..The same goes for shin guards..I'm still wearing a pair of CCM shinguards I got maybe 10-11 years ago. I still wear an HT-2 helmet and have a CCM 492 on order..so..Hockey is an expensive sport and it costs enough to fork over $$$ to help the beer leagues exist, why blow $1000 on gear? You can buy visors for $30, why spend $100? It wont help you play like Ovechkin..
  5. Apples and oranges... Why? At one time they made skate runners for Riedell Hockey as well.
  6. How does this compare to the Sheffield Steel I had in my old Riedell Air hockey skates ten years ago? This stuff was pretty shiny as well.
  7. Aside from Habs pants, it looks like quality protective gear that does the job. Where can I get some Habs pants? As for the gear, anything protective is good enough for me. I'm not going to go out and blow $150 on beer league shoulders and another $100 on shins. I've still got an old pair of CCM shins from 10 years ago..They work for me..I just need new shoulders, my Cooper Defenders are cracking on the shoulders.
  8. What rink / league is that Forbs? WHAM (the women's version of AHA). My team usually skates out of Augsburg but the state tourney was at the Super Rink. I've played at Augsburg a few times..Its right next to their basketball arena. Nice little facility and a few bars closeby. Was like 10 years ago when I last played there. Ever skated at the old Fairgrounds Coliseum?
  9. Really nice..won any skating competitions with those yet? How did you dye the holders?
  10. what happens if he turns out to play righty? Thats my hope. :) The real answer is then the whole ugly process starts all over again. Hopefully he doesnt chose soccer or wrestling instead.
  11. It is amazing at how my GF pisses and moans about my sticks taking up space, (I've acquired 3 new ones in the last 3 weeks) yet she gets a new pair of Ugg boots each season. (Fall, Winter, Spring) Also, she has maybe 30 pairs of shoes and our walk-in closet is dominated by her wardrobe along with our main dresser in the bedroom. I've had to resort to putting my suits/sportcoats in a wardrobe closet in my son's bedroom. P.S. Anyone have a Vanek Warrior blade?
  12. Nice stuff. How do you like the CCM tacks and E-blade? ..why is this thread not showing up in my normal list?
  13. No, it was a topic on the Torspo skates. Whoops..My bad
  14. It looks better with less blue and more black. I'll try to keep you updated, but they really are comfortable and wrap my ankles and heel really well. I'd suggest someone try the Torspo or Kor skates and get a feel for the molding to foot type technology.
  15. I had the E-Pros put on these since I didnt like the Sweet 150 PIKA holder. I took these into Dave's Sport Shop in Fridley, MN. A guy there asked me why I was going to change them out, and I replied, "I didnt like the blue holder." Turns out he helped design the skates or so he says. I've yet to skate on the ice with these, but in wearing them around the house and getting a feel for them..They fit great and I can stand on one leg and lean outwards and still retain my balance..Very comfortable fit..Like a snug running shoe, but still pretty stiff yet well balanced. I had to get rid of those unsighly "E-Pro" silver graphic decals though.
  16. The 301s are 10D Flexlites are 9D 8090s are 9.5D
  17. You can tell I'm old by my gear. These are just some skates I had laying around. Getting rid of most of them
  18. Nice skates, too soft for some, but I like em. You need a new pillow cover tho dude..
  19. Those are sweet looking skates. I like the all black touch. If those skates had any stiffness to them I would have bought them myself. I tried those on and they're plenty stiff. I wore Graf 707s for 6-7 years and now have Bauer 8090s and Nike Flexlites...Go figure...I guess I like the toecap room since I have some jacked up feet.
  20. Atrophy is a major problem for athletes returning from a long term injury You should see my shoulder/chest area. I got hit fairly hard and my pectoral ripped off my shoulder and my bicep tendon ruptured as well. Was black and blue from my hip to my fingertips for about 2 months, and was not able to open a door with my right hand for over a year. My pectoral that rolled off is still in a knot towards the middle of my chest.. Talk about atrophy, and it has been a long long process to heal...Lots of therapy, going slow with surgical tubing and light weights..I can now curl 55lbs with my right hand, but 7 years ago, I couldnt even open a door with my right hand. I doubt it, do you have an ankle brace? I've broken and torn ligaments in my ankle and find that broken ankles are easier to recover from
  21. That was us...you should've yelled out... We had a blast...I need to recharge my batteries but yes, I did meet up with David and his family before and after the Draft. At one point I was asked to sit with them during the first round, but he got a bit nervous and decided to be with his family, and that's fine by me. Must you shit in his Cheerios? St. Louis is a good hockey town and great fans and a young team. Much better chance of getting to the NHL earlier than to be on a team that doesn't promote their prospects. I loved watching the Blues back in the 90s with Hull and Shanahan..Before that was Hull and Oates. Some great players have donned the Blues uniform.
  22. Nike/Bauer has had some troubles with mis-mounted holders as well. Seems to be a common production mistake. Perhaps due to non-Canadians mounting the holders on the skate..New trainees at the sweatshop err factory.
  23. Hope you enjoy them.. Graf makes a good skate even though the company has been much maligned on here...Mainly due to customer service issues. I tried those on once and thought they were nice, a tad bit too stiff for me, but a nice, well designed and thought out boot. A very nice looking pair of skates indeed. Since they are customs, they are probably one or two levels stiffer than retail. I bet they'll last you a decade at the least. ;) Keep us updated... I'm pretty sure Graf retail is the same stiffness as custom...Graf seems to operate under a different philosophy than Nike/Bauer and Rbk when it comes to their skates...Other than custom tongues/holders, I believe what the pros wear when it comes to boot construction, you can get retail...I could be wrong, but that is my understanding.
  24. I used to date a girl with your same last name.
