Direct Stick Orders From China Manufacturers?
Griff replied to Denny91's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I have a buddy who imports sticks 1-2 times a year straight from China. He likes them and some other beer leaguers and kids do as well. He got me one because he wanted me to test it. I personally found it unusable, mostly due to what I consider a laughably flexible blade. The blades on his are better/stiffer than what they sent for me. So some of it is preference/pickiness, but some of it is just a total crapshoot, honestly like wood sticks way back when...these 3 are for games, these 6 are for practice, and these 3 are just in the "no" pile. -
What are the chances that this comes out with a throwback price as well? Given what the stick market looks like right now an original synergy at the original $140ish price point would be damn tempting.

This doesn't solve the T90 issue but as someone who's evidently even more of a stick dinosaur than the original poster (P15/H15/D15 Heel curve and 100-105 flex) I've had the best luck just keeping an eye on sideline swap or the various sites that sell past-season pro-stock sticks. I may have to change eventually but buying batches means that'll be a while.

From Bauer 8090 to the Graf 755 I was 8.5 in both. YMMV based on foot shape and how you like it to fit but at least for me from traditional boot to traditional boot it was consistent.
-
This may seem like a fairly off-the-wall suggestion but have you looked at Grafs? The one90 was a fairly low-volume, low-cut boot. Given how long I'm assuming you've been skating on them (I don't know for sure maybe you're on your 5th pair, I'm on my 6th pair of 8090's) they have to be pretty damn soft by now. Looking at something like a Graf 703, which is still available in North America, may be a decent solution. Should be pretty easy to put Tuuks on so you can keep your steel. Part of the reason I make the suggestion is that although I've been able to keep myself in 8090's for the time being through ebay and sideline swap, I've also tried more modern skates and they just do not work for me. It lead me to look at Graf 755's as a suitable alternative and I'll probably purchase a pair soon.

Thanks for the responses. The diamond wasn't new, but it wasn't bad either, I switched that out as well to get through it. I'm still not exactly sure what was going on. Like I mentioned I had no issue whatsoever with the CCM skates and some of the Bauer's but this batch of youth x40's just ate wheels. Didn't matter if I'd already gotten a hollow in it and the factory coating was gone, just fucking ate them. Looking at the Blademaster price list and the wheels I realize that two of the wheels were 08mxruby and one was a 08ruby. I will most likely sharpen all of these skates again and then some before our 2nd mite session starts in January. Since I have to buy wheels now does anyone have a specific recommendation? Green, purple, ruby? Or just stick with my normal MXRuby and plan on buying a couple extra?
-
So it's been years since I've sharpened a large volume of skates at once, mostly just 1-4 pair a week in exchange for 6-packs. This week I sharpened all of our associations new loaner skates for our mite/learn to play program so the kids would start on good, level, edges. These are cheap skates with cheap steel. The CCM ones were fine. The bauer ones just ate through wheels. Not all of the bauer models seemed to do it but I tore through the rest of the wheel on my machine, toasted another used wheel, and finally got through them on a 3rd wheel. All the wheels were blademaster mx-ruby wheels. It was to the point where I was having to dress a wheel multiple times per skate. Looking at shop guys or anyone who sharpens at volume for some guidance. Is this an isolated incident? Is there a blademaster wheel that copes with this cheap steel better? I now need to order wheels so if there's one I can throw in with my normal every other year order for these cheap youth skates I'd love to know what it is. Thanks for any help.

Here's my dilemma, My brother has been skating on a pair of easton S15's since they were new. They are literally the only skates he has ever owned that have not hurt his feet. The adhesive that connects the softer materials to the carbon is starting to fail. This isn't exactly surprising, and is probably closer to impressive, considering the adhesive issues that easton had with composite skates back around then. (Were any Synergy 1200's not warrantied?) Anyway given the vast number of shoe glue and other adhesives on the market does anyone have any experience with one that worked for this skate? I'll be repairing them one way or another but was just hoping for some advice. Thanks

Dear god they're going to make a fortune on that little piece of equipment.

Got my X02 on friday and set it up in the back of the shop here and did my skates and a buddies with the 90/75. The fbv is great and I can't wait to use it in a more competitive setting on monday night. Thanks to J.R. and Drewhunz for talking to me about it in Vegas and thanks to the Lady I talked to at blackstone, super helpful and very nice.

Jesus Monty where on earth did you get those? Those are sweet, I've been trying to talk my old coach out of his.

Little Caesars sponsors a AAA team in Detroit, so that's the teams name.

The 8090, been looking for a while we had a pair in 15" but it was just too small.

JR which pair would you be willing to get rid of?
