  1. I get both sides of the argument here. One should assume that adding internal materials would make the skate stiffer and heavier. When I fit people for custom skates, I build the spec sheet after the fitting, then present it to the customer, and explain each feature and why I didn't select it. I always provide them with an if/then answer when it comes to certain features. People sometimes only see the pro to go with a feature and not the con. Those who have volume issues then want to put the thickest tongue on the skate is a good example of this - not realizing it will rob them of volume when the tongue is on there. However, not everyone has the knowledge or have run into those types of situations often enough to think that way. They see a custom order, assume the customer has done their research, and knows exactly what they want. (You typically see that with goal pad purchases.) My assumption is that the sales associate treated it as such and didn't question what he wanted. Keep in mind that now you have a lot of store managers/sales associates that are doing fitting for the first time, or 1 year or less experience with it. I never got to fit a True skate, so I'm not sure if their fit guide states that the shot blockers add weight and stiffness. But there were posts in this thread that stated as such.
  2. Question re: those who have Step Blacksteel on their VH/True holders - I just ordered a pair for one of my customers and when I opened the package, I noticed that there was hardware on the steel - it looks like a really long Tuuk bolt. It was the first time I ever handled that steel - I've sharpened VH/Step steel before but it was always mounted onto a skate. One of them came off with ease - the other one was a struggle. I left it on and sharpened anyway. The question is geared towards the customer - is that bolt the only one he can use with that steel? Or will the VH bolts fit onto the Blacksteel?

  11. First off, if you would like to advertise, we can definitely send you a media kit with our rates. We've run advertisements since 2011. Email admin@modsquadhockey.com for details. Secondly, there were several people in this thread that couldn't find it. My distro told me they had limited stock, and something like from here on out all of that steel was going to go through True. I'm sure that member was PMd several times by people who could get it for him. I figured I would give him an option. People in the business have made a name for themselves, picked up clients and have sold numerous goods and services (either through the Gear Exchange or the PM grey market) for 14 years. Meanwhile, I have to find ways to keep the site afloat so that you guys can continue to do that. Coupled with the fact that I paid a ton of money to Chadd to own the site outright a year ago. I haven't drawn a salary since then because of that.
  12. If anyone's interested in VH BlackSteel, send an email to proshop@modsquadhockey.com.
  13. Well, the head coach for my wife's team asked me to take over the duties for next year. I accepted. He retired from his job and wants to be free to travel with his family. We started our playoffs (they do a tournament weekend) yesterday with me behind the bench as the head coach was in his own playoffs for his league. We won 1-0. Try coaching your wife. I've gotten the "is he pissed at me because I criticized" look from the head coach/assistant coach to my wife being salty on the bench because she doesn't want to take orders from her husband...
  14. That's what I'm saying - less experienced/less qualified ones will try to do that. Those are the shops who aren't willing to work with the skater, or do the "recommended" profile and have 95% of people in the same profile. Seen a lot of that in my 20 years.
  15. So is LS2. And Tuuk C+. But those sets have been profiled for years, if not decades. Sometimes people don't want tall steel. Dealing with a new profile is enough, now throwing in another variable (the height) makes things harder. The more you can control, the better off you'd be. It's an issue that plagues the profiler - the pressure of trying to get it right the first time. You have to be patient with the process.

  17. That’s ok - that’s why I’m here. I almost never forget. My memory/ability to retain information has gotten me very far in this business. :)
  18. Yes, there is. M-E/Blademaster offers it, and it’s a Win 2 with Prosharp.
  19. The Malung tag is more of a status symbol than anything else. The Chinese-made ones are fine. As stated, the 19k is the latest 7k/xx70, and the 21k is the 9k/xx90. Does the 21k still have the removable calf wing? Before, the calf wing was fixed on the xx70 and removable on the xx90. I had both at some point, and the xx90 just felt like overkill for my style of play. I much prefer the minimalist 3075s that I have, and luckily for me, I have a brand new pair in storage - thanks @Buzz_LightBeer!
  20. That's exactly the problem I'm having with my girls. The other issue is that the opposing team may play loose as well (their defensemen down by the slot) and then creates more confusion with the team, because they thought they had to stay in a certain zone, and don't know how to react when the other team does that.
  21. I'm coaching a women's team here in MI. I haven't coached a team in almost 10 years. It's a tough gig - have some beginners as well as some veterans - the common thread is that they have never played any organized hockey. Some are receptive, the older ones are not. I'm glad you guys are excited about this. Like I said, this is a community; make this space yours! If you guys want subforms or anything for a better structure, just PM me with your ideas.
