composite endplug

Recommended Posts

The only reason I won't buy it is the price and the fact you have to cut down your stick, and if you don't like it, you're screwed. So at least 128 dollars down the drain if you don't like Oggie.

That's a valid point, Hockechamp.

I've used it for four months now, so I forget that I was worried about what I'd do if I didn't like it. I probably would have put a wooden plug in, since I had wanted to lengthen my stick anyway, but I was wondering if I made a mistake.

I know he's set up demo days at local rinks (New England) for players to use sticks with the grips on them, and I would suspect it's in response to players saying the same thing that you have.

Because you're right: if you haven't tried it or heard good word of mouth from friends, it is a leap of faith.

K, these are the two weights, same length plugs.

Composite

Wood

A 1 year old wouldn't notice that difference.

did the composite endplug have glue on it? Just wondering.

Salming, I understood your point, but weight defenately does matter to an extent. I think the weight of what you're actually holding in your hand (the lowest leverage point, if really any leverage at all) is a lot different than if that weight was in the shaft. The only reason I won't buy it is the price and the fact you have to cut down your stick, and if you don't like it, you're screwed. So at least 128 dollars down the drain if you don't like Oggie.

I think you're still missing the point. The Oggie will replace the wood plug, a couple inches of shaft and the tape on your handle. The difference in weight would be negligible at best.

Well..... a 3inch wood plug weighed 35 grams. Double that and it'd be approximately 70 grams (actually, less because you don't have the actual plug part double, but it's close enough). I think I saw that the Oggie (should have been spelt with just one "G") grip weighs 4 ounces (approx 112g). So.... do you think the average person puts 42 grams worth of tape on their stick?

Not that whatever the difference is is all that significant in my book, but everyone seems to believe the marketing hype that every gram counts.

Honestly, depending on the type of handle people like to use, it's very possible that they put that much tape on their stick.

I don't see how anyone can feel the weight difference when they're holding the grip in their hands. If it makes the shaft itself heavier, then you'd feel it, but if you're holding onto the grip.....thats a different story. The weight differential is not that big at all as evidenced by sherwood, I just don't see what the big fuss is all about cause chances are if you probably won't feel the difference anyways

it would definitly be interesting to try. but i doubt that the handle woud make that big of a difference feel wize and weight wize becaues it it was that much better someone would say they were awesom and everyone would be ordering them.

People won't feel the weight difference but they would notice the difference in the balance of the stick. I would be interested in seeing how much the balance point moves with wood, composite and oggie grips.

Might be good, then, for blade heavy sticks.

Also..... wasn't there a theory raised by Inno (ala the 3000 shaft, off the top of my head) that a "butt-end" heavy stick/shaft made for better stick handling?

So heres my question again:

will a composite endplug which was given with the stealth fit into a synergy sl ?

I just spoke with the gentleman who designed the Oggie Grip and told him about the discussion here. A few of you have said it might be interesting to test the Oggie Grip so, since he doesn't have an account here yet, he asked me to pass along the following offer.

If you go to Oggie Grip, and mention you read about it on ModSquad, he'll discount the Ergo Grip to $15.00 and the Sticky Tape Foam to $5.00. (Through May 31st, he said).

The only forewarning I'll give to anyone is some people like to hold their pinky above the butt end to increase puck handling, whereas others think that weakens their shot. If you are the type that holds your pinky off the end of the stick, I don't think you'll like this version of the Ergo Grip, although he said he's working on a design for future models that would allow you to use the Grip that way. If you don't hold your pinky off the stick, based on my experience, I think you'll love the Grip, but you'll have to test it yourself.

If you like the Oggie Grip, all he asks is you tell your friends and LHS. If you don't like the Oggie Grip, all he asks is you forget your password to ModSquad....

Actually, he said he'd establish an account to answer any questions.

I think so, yes. I believe you can ask Fletch though as I'm pretty sure the one he was selling came from a Synnergy.

If you cut down a composite butt end, is it hollow? In theory, would you be able to put in ANOTHER butt end, an oggie grip, or whatever you could dream up?

You probably could but I doubt it would hold up for long...

There's an interesting sidenote to the Oggie discussion we had a couple of weeks ago.

The designer of Oggie Grip sent my an email this weekend that he's been conducting off-ice testing against the radar gun. He's been using the same brand and same flex stick cut to the same length, one with a Classic Grip (the straight grip) and one with a taped knob. He said players have been averaging a two to three MPH increase with the Classic Grip. He also said they'll conduct on-ice testing soon and vibration monitoring, I'm guessing to measure how it might impact puckhandling and receiving passes.

I cut the top off of my Composite plug, just yesterday because when trying to balance it on the ice (when you're looking at drills, getting yelled at, etc.), it would slip. I think a wood plug would fit.

I have in the past cut my stick and taped the end into a little ball so that I am holding the ball in the palm of my hand. My pinky and half my ring finger hang off the end. I wonder if anyone else out there does this? Works for me.

One of the guys who used to play with Hershey (as well as Philly and LA) did that on his sticks.
