Recommended Posts

Hi, i want to know if the best to do is to tape the end of the stick or use it without tape? (I'm asking considering the palm of the gloves)

In case that use tape is the best, which tape is the best to use??

Thanks for all.

For the knob of the stick i use griptape which can be found at i assume your LHS, and a piece of white tape at the end of that to hold it down. Then for my blade i tape from toe to heel white tape. I tape the whole blade.

the wear of ur glove isnt usually because of the type of tape u use (green, yellow, white, black, ect) its what type of material is on the palm....also its a good idea to use the same color of stick tape as the color of the palm of glove so theres not scuffs and that....

Dude it's really not funny. And white tape is always good just replace it often cause it gets dirty really fast.

it's the friction that wears away palms. different types of palms just are more durable then others.

I use white cloth tape, then one layer of w/e colour grip/spongy tape over it then, put white cloth tape over the end part where the grip tape connects to the stick, because the grip tape always rolls up on me.

Sorry to ask this, but when you put white cloth tape, what do you mean (i'm from Argentina). Can anyone upload a picture of this kind of tape??

Thanks for all, excuse my English.

I should mention i put electrical tape over the hockey tape.

I do a normal tape job with hockey tape (knob and everything), then go over it with electrical tape. This makes it spongy, and feels kinda like the grip on the si-core. Kinda.

Black tape (I have lots of it) and then I go over the black with Yellow so my sticks are really easy to identify.

ive always thought that black tape wore your palms out faster than white did though

Black doesn't wear away your palm quicker, but the black fades from the tape into your palms giving them an off colour look..

Might I add some words from experience? Most companies use the exact same cloth in white tape as in black tape. We also use the same cloth in our colored hockey tape. The color should not affect the wear on the gloves. Color should also not really transfer to the gloves and if it does with the black tape it's probably the adhesive getting mashed through the weave of the cloth.

If you use regular cloth hockey tape on your grip and find it to sticky, try sprinkling the grip with talcum powder. (Some pros like Gretzky and Gilmour used to do this on their blade when they used friction tape on the stick).

Some posters noted that the material in the palm is key. It's also true that some tapes are more abrasive than others. You may have noticed pink and pastel blue grips on the stick racks when you watch the pros. This is a gauze grip tape and it is very abrasive. Naturally pros don't buy their own gloves and don't really care if their gloves wear out in 2 weeks.

Softer products will help with glove wear. There are some elastic cloth grip tapes available from many manufacturers that are ideal. We recommend building up the grip to the size and shape you want with regular hockey tape first and then adding a layer of the elastic grip tape over it. When it starts to wear you only have to change the outer layer. Also do tape down the start and finish because these grip tapes are "cohesive" which means they stick only to themself and not to anything else so this type of tape can start to "roll-up" from your hand moving on it or just sliding your sticks into your car.

Hope this helps.

I use Wilson H20 tennis overgrip--is soft and absorbs moisture. I do my normal knob with white tape and do a layer of the overgrip. You can get it any local sports store that has tennis stuff.
