2005-2006 NHL Schedule

Oh man I nearly lost it when I got the email, I checked about an hour ago and I saw that Florida is going to play Atlanta at home in their first game. I cant wait. The chicken sandwiches at the Office Depot Center are too good to be true. ;)

I'm a Canucks fan and this schedule will definitely cut down on the travel. More cost savings that will likely not be passed on to me!

Does anyone else have something like this in the schedule?

Mar 23, 2006 away Montreal 7:30

Mar 25, 2006 away Montreal 7:00

Apr 01, 2006 home Buffalo 7:00

Apr 03, 2006 home Buffalo 7:30

It's kind've a kick in the teeth. Why would you play these teams, twice in a row, with a day apart, but stay at the same building?

I could see if it was a Friday night Sunday afternoon, maybe. It would make more sense for those to be a home-and-home series.

Although in the Eastern Conference most home and homes are with teams from your own division so the travel time would't effect the teams as much as it would in the West.

Ya, theres a 3rd with Ottawa I didn't see. I dislike this new schedule. Rivalries are fine and dandy, but most don't come from regular season games, they start in the playoffs and carry over to the regular season. Buff will not be a rival of Toronto until they pick-up their play. Montreal is reall fading fast and Ottawa is just boring. We've played them 35 more times than any other team over the last 4 years.

Ovechkin is on WSH.  That's gonna be a big rivalry again.

They only see eachother 3 times, it won't be that big.

Okay...PIT and WSH had always had a big rivalry - now throw Crosby vs Ovechkin into it...yeah, small rivalry, what was I thinking...

Good, the B's are visiting the Avs. I had read there were only going to be six games against the other conference, so I was worried I wouldn't be able to see that game this year.

Being from Detroit and a Red Wings fan I cant believe they dont play the Leafs, Montreal, or the Bruins! although we play the prdetors and the Blue jackets 8 time each. You would think they would have all of the original 6 teams playing each other at least once.

This new schedule SUCKS... and in case I just didn't say it loud enough I'm going to say it again... IT SUCKS!!! WTF is a professional sports league doing not having every team make at least one appearance against all the other teams in the league? For example, the Rangers make nary a jaunt out west and neither LA nor Anaheim will paly he leafs at home. Heck, LA plays Anaheim and Phoenix every other night. That's more like the ECHL then the NHL. I don't think it's going to do much for ticket sales either. Who wants to buy a partial season and watch the same teams over and over again?

I think it'd be wise for the NHL to create an Original 6 division. With a little shuffling its definately possible.

I assume it would be an eastern conference division? The next two weternmost teams would be Atlanta and Pittsburgh? I'd rather see permanent exceptions instead of a special division. Putting them all in one division would prevent them from all making the playoffs at the same time. Right now, it's simply ownership that's causing that to happen.

Jay:

Excellent point about the same teams coming in all the time. I can see it now "I just saw the Ducks last week, no need to see them again this week." The theory is that it will create more of a rivalry and the more intense games will bring more people to the games.

Chicago has one of those, at home against the Flames. Right before they go on the road for the ENTIRE MONTH of Feb. The week where they play the wings three consecutive games should be interesting. Oct 27th, 29th and Nov 1.
