Experience with Creatine

creatine will make you gain weight, trust me. a bunch of friends have used it and are still using it. ones trying out for lewiston, and is 6'8" 240lbs, and has put on about 20 lbs this summer while being on creatine and protein powder and hitting the gym 5 times a week. another friend is just into going to the gym and is an absolute tank, and put on 10 lbs in a month while on the creatine. the stuff works for some, and doesn't for others. a lot of it comes down to genetics on whether it'll have an effect on you. another thing to note is that a lot of the weight you gain while on creatine, and the bulkiness, is just water retention in your muscles.

in my opinion, at 14 years old, you shouldn't be tampering with creatine or any body building supplements since your body has yet to fully grow. at 14 years old, i can't see why someone would be so worried on going on creatine. as others have noted, consult a physician first on if you should take it, and if you do decide to take it, you'll want to keep taking it to maintain the benefits, otherwise all that water will leave your system and you'll be back to normal.

All you young guys trying to make highschool teams and such... check in with your doctor before getting into all the supplements. Someone (like your doctor) should know what you are taking 'just in case' something were to go a bit strange. This will not only help with diagnosis, but help build the database of results for future kids with similar questions.

Be safe with that stuff.

Creatine draws water into your muscles. Once you are off of it, that water weight leaves you. Its a simple cycle, and since you shouldn't stay on it for more than 2 months, when you are off of it you will be back to your normal size/bulkiness. Just gain your mass the hard way, in the end the results will be better

What, in your opinion, is the correct way to cycle creatine? Someone told me you should take two pills a day for one month then cycle a week were you take 3-4 a day and then go back to another month of just taking 2 a day, you never take more than a week break from it, is this a good/accurate way to cycle it?

This is about right. Creatine is used by bodybuilders in bodybuilding competitons because it can give them a bigger and more enhancing look of the muscle so they can get that edge in competion.

If you want to build mass you need to break the muscle you are working on down. Once the muscle breaks down, it can start to rebuild and in effect create more muscle. This can be done by lifting the weight until failure. So attack the muscle with different types of excercises focusing at a different angle and at lower reps. Eat some protein right after the work out within 45 minutes. Do a training program for 4 days on and one day off.

I knew a skinny guy and he just ate high calorie items before a work out like a tub of ice cream and he packed on the muscles pretty well for in the summer. I don't see how it is possible because if I did that I would look like the Michelin Man.

dont take creatine in the pills, harder to digest, take it in powder form, yo cavs whats that alternative to monohydrate?

Do you need to drink more water if you take pills?

my wife was recently told by a neurologist(sp?) that she has a form of muscular dystriphy(sp) and he said that she could take cretine to build up her muscules that she has to make up for the ones she has lost. he also said there was something else but i forgot what it was.

we are thankful that the form of md that she has (FSH) is the least destructive form of md. mostly effect the shoulders, arms and face, but can also effect the legs. he also said that it will not effect her quality of life, and that is cool. what sucks is that she is young (32) and has a hard time picking up our son who is 21 months. but we deal with it on day to day basis. but if you were to see her you would never know. no more looking for parking spaces, we got the handicap tag now, you can laugh about the parking tag because we do.

14 isnt that young to be taking creatine....creatine isnt a "unnatureal" substance, creatine doesnt use the hormons in a persons body to give them muscle, ingesting the certain amount of creatine is like eating red meat and fish, it supplies raw materials for energy, thats all creatine does...gives you energy for an extended period of time...it doesnt make you stronger, or bulkier...and of so far creatine to my knowledge hasnt had any side effects except ppl ingesting too much and other small side effects like cramps ,diariah , ect

if fish aand red meat is the same, why not take it instead of creatine that you don'T know the long terms effects.

At 14, yes probably a bit too young to supplement. Not too young to lift, but to add all kinds of supplemention might be going too far.

Creatine monohydrate is the old school creatine, available in pill, liquid and powder form.

Today's new creatine is Creatine Ethyl Esther. It has almost no side-effects. Easily digested, does not turn into creatinin (the bad bi-product of creatine once it hits the kidneys) and there is no loading phase (you can just start taking it right away without the slow build-up like monohydrate). You MUST drink water though. The reason being, that creatine in any form works by pumping water and ATP (a vital chemical necessary for muscle movement and growth) into muscle cells, thus making them stronger, larger, and giving you longevity in times of physical stress (workouts, running, hockey, etc).

I was a meager 135-140lbs at one point. Within 3-4 months I weighed 155-160lbs. Creatine, good brands and kinds, WORK. You must maintain a good diet, workout routine, but you will see results. You will build muscle mass, and lose points off your fat index. However, one must realize, creatine use and it's gains are caused mostly by water weight. If you gain weight while on it, it's mostly due to the fact that your muscle cells are acruing water in them. Once you stop creatine, you will lose several pounds (almost all being water weight).

When you lose those pounds do u lose the muscle aswell or is it still almost all there?? Does the muscal turn to fat?? ANd how much weight are we talking?

From what i thought although im a little confused now creatine helps the muscles bulk up by adding extra water which you need to take extra of so as not to get dehydrated while taking it.

I would say eat lots of red meat as it includes lots of protein and creatine

In my experience, you will lose overall bodyweight undoubtedly. But, you should retain most of the muscle mass you have gained while on it. You won't turn to flab, don't worry. You might lose some of the size, possibly even some strength, but it won't be that noticeable. I was recently on a cycle of creatine, and I got sick. I had to stop lifting and taking the creatine. I lost bodyweight, and people noticed it, but I was still cut. I didn't lift for at least 3 weeks, and people were still complimenting me. Granted, when I got back to it, I couldn't lift as much weight, nor could I lift weight as well over long sets (Say 10-12 reps), but overall, I still looked good.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I figured its better then starting a new one.

Anyways, just a question. I read up on creatine and dicided im going to a thing called "loading". Just a question though, it says to take 20-30 grams a day for the first four days to a week. About how many teaspoons would be 20-30 grams? lol.

My experience w/ creatine? It tastes good. It's in the Sobe No-Fear energy drinks. They're yummy. But I don't use it to lift or anything, just help me concentrate [(so, it's overkill, oh well) and not so much concentrate, but keep me from falling asleep].

so i just glaned through this post, holy crap some people are confused about what creatine is. But then again that seems to happen with most things. To answer your question, dont bother loading, its just the company trying to get you to use up their product faster.

but anyhow, a little bit on creatine for anybody who digs up this thread again.

creatine is a weight lifting supplement. THE CREATINE itself dose not make you gain weight (aside from water weight associated with some types of creatine -monohydrate mostly). People who take creatine gain weight from lifting weights and eating food. What creatine allows your muscles to do is to work a LITTLE bit longer and harder. Therefore, because you are working out "harder and longer", with a good diet and strong weight routine, you may put on some muscle mass, and most often a little fat as well. Creatine is no wonder drug and you still need to bust your ass in the gym and eat right, otherwise its a waste of money.

There are no documented side effects, however - you shouldn't take dietary supplements until you have completed puberty. Likewise, you shouldn't be lifting heavy weights until you are well through puberty as well. You can seriously mess up your development, and should ask your doctor if your body is ready to train in that manner. Also with creatines like monohydrate, that cause your body to soak up water weight, if you become dehydrated, you will end up with muscle pulls and stains and cramps.

One more thing I noticed from this thread, you can't turn fat into muscle. You can burn fat doing cardio, gain muscle from lifting weights, or a combination of both. You dont turn fat into muscle though, im sick of hearing that.

Personally I use creatine and swear by it, however it is not for everyone, and it shouldn't be used as a shortcut. Feel free to shoot me a PM if anyone has any questions.

I increased weightlifting poundages in leaps and bounds with my one month on Creatine. I may be wrong, but the mass gains came from the added strength gains and from lifting heavier weights. For example, my bench press ripped upwards from 180 lbs to 240.

My experiences in the game of hockey are that you have more explosive power & you can make decisions in the game faster and better ( probably because it takes longer before you get tired ).

Also I gain 4-5 KG as long as I am using creatine. After 2 months when I stop with this cure, I will lose about 3 kgs. While working out in the gym, I will be capable of pushing a higher amount of kgs, for a longer time.. Usually this will be around 5-10 kgs more as the amount that I pushed while NOT on creatine. After the cure I will be able to lift the same amount of kgs while on creatine.

That's about it for my experiences with creatine. It really helped me..
