O's Palmeiro suspended

Recommended Posts

I still think he'll go, just it will be a lot harder for him to get into it...Palmeiro is an amazing baseball player, and I think he could still produce 3000 hits, even without 'roids.

I'm not so sure about him for the HOF because Canseco claimed he helped Palmiero shoot up with steriods. If writers believe Canseco, and that this suspension is correct, then is implies that Palmiero has been using steriods for ten years or so.

That starts to detract from his career achievements.

Dont believe everything Conseco says. His book was mainly to get him noticed after all.

I would like to read it to see what the thing actually says, I've only seen reviews about it.

It would be interesting to see who he shits on.

I believe part of what Canseco says, because there have been certain players whose physiques don't look natural -- although, funnily, Palmiero is not one of the ones I had suspected -- but it doesn't matter what I think. It only matters if the baseball writers make the connection that Palmiero has possibly been juicing for a decade if Canseco is correct.

It's funny that he so emphatically denied using steroids to congress and now he's suspended for steriod use.

Sure, he says that it wasn't intentional (which is possible) but I don't think many people are going to believe him.

Look at what happened to Palmeiro's number starting oh about 1993.

And now (predictably) reports are coming in that Bonds says he's likely done for the year - that his knee is "just not there yet."

Does anyone else smell something fishy here?

On a wild conspiracy theory for you...did MLB catch Bonds and strike a deal whereby he mises most or part of the season as punishment? What would it have meant to baseball to have (arguably) its best player publicly outed for testing positive (ASIDE from the Clear and the Cream which he denied knowing about)? Maybe throw in a knee surgery he needed anyway as cover...?

Long shot, speculation, a bit tongue-in-cheek...but with Barry's timing about not playing this season...makes you wonder...

I thought Palmeiro was a borderline hall of famer, now I think he shouldn't be in at all. He lied to congress, he pointed fingers at other players.

Canseco was pretty much right on in his book. Call it a publicity stunt or whatever, but he knew what he was talking about.

I think he should still be in, especially when you consider the character of some of the current HOFers. Look at Ty Cobb, granted it was a different and less-PC time but look at how people went nuts when Rocker said what he said in '99 about NYC.

Anybody have any opinions on Giambi?

3 HR's in April

1 HR in May

1 HR in Jun

14 HR's in Jul

3 HR's in Aug-to-date

Batting average from .224 to .291 during that time. From what I've read, it's all been attributed to getting his confidence back.

Giambi's batspeed is back. It's pretty much the main difference. And he's started to hit the ball the other way, so they aren't just sitting outside and letting him try to pull it.

If you watch his HRs, he doesn't crush anything, he just gets around on the ball. The two he hit tonight got out by maybe a collective 20 feet.

Now, to logic. He gets treated daily for the tumor he had last year, MLB has access to all his bloodwork from said tests. Also, if he was taking anything it would come up to his doctors who are treating him FOR A TUMOR THAT ALMOST KILLED HIM.

Just a hunch, but I doubt he's messing around with anything.

But of course it's quick to point the finger, if he wasn't a Yankee it'd probably this big feel good story.

Very true, his swing is very cannon like lately. He's putting the barrel on the ball and most of his HR's are line drives, not towering 'roid jobs.

I don't think it has anything to do with him being a Yankee. It has more to do with his personal history.

I can't lie that I wonder. And, the fact that it almost killed him really doesn't mean much. About fifteen years ago, I read an article about a man who went around giving speeches that he considered himself "The Dumbest Man on Earth."

The short story is he abused steroids and it caused complications (diabetes if my memory is correct). Doctors told him he'd better stop or he'd lose his foot. So he stopped, but ultimately he couldn't take looking at himself in the mirror, so he started up again. Well, they amputated his foot. So, he stopped again, and he again couldn't take looking at himself in the mirror, so he started up again. This time they amputated the other foot. I believe he stopped for good at that point, but the complications still happened, and they ultimately amputated both legs above the knees. He said his daughter would now sit on his chest to help keep him balanced while he used the bench press.

At that point, he realized that he let the steroids -- and the effect they had on his esteem -- ruin his life, so he went around giving speeches.

Again, it's not beyond the realm of possibility. I'm just hopeful it hasn't happened, because it would lead one to believe his esteem of himself is wrapped up in fulfilling his contract. And that's not healthy.

Just a couple of things.

First of all, contrary to what JR said, Stanozolol (what Palmeiro and B. Johnson tested positive for) is not a serious steroid. It is an anabolic (muscle building) agent, but not anywhere on par with some of the of the other big boys that get you HUGE. Stani is mostly for moderate anabolic gains, but mostly for muscle acceleration (why Ben Johnson used it) and for muscle repair (probably why Palmeiro the old fart is on it, as well as tons of pitchers that need to repair sore arms). I have seen Stani in use, as an avid bodybuilder, and by no means do bodybuilders get that huge monstrous physique. Cut, but not huge. However I will say their endurance is phenonmenal. There are other, stronger anabolics that will make you like Arnold Schwarzenegger. If size is your objective, Stani is not the best stuff. And contrary to what people say, about it being illegal and not available in the US...marijuana, cocaine, heroin, all illegal and WIDELY available across the US and Canada. Wake up folks, if it's out there, you can get it.

As a Yankee fan...YES! Giambi is juicing. There is not doubt in my mind. They say he has been working with Donny Baseball Mattingly and a baseball tee. I have a hard time believing somone could go from .180 to hitting 2 home runs a game in 6 games in the last month or so. His bat speed is fast, and he's hitting it hard...too hard. The other day he rolled up his sleeve, and he had one vein that was BULGING. Now the only thing that makes such bulges and vascularity (ability to see veins) is 'roids. He was only swinging a bat, and it looked like he just got done doing a bicep excersise. No Way! I just don't buy it. I love the Yanks, I'm happy for Jason, he's really a good guy I feel, but he is IMHO back on the juice.

Honestly, if you think Giambi is on steroids again, you haven't watched him play. His bat speed is up, his bat's quicker than it was in his mvp year. If he was hitting 800 foot hrs and still had sluggish bat speed, sure.

It's almost like he had been playing with weights on all these years, now he's getting around on the ball like Sheffield.

His bat speed and hard swing are EXACTLY why I think he is on the juice again. Haha! I mean, don't get me wrong. He has the talent. But to completely turn it around in such a short amount of time? C'mon. Donny Baseball never hit like that in his career! And he is now Giambi's hitting coach. And they attribute it to a batting tee! Get the heck outta here. And you cited Sheff??? I love the guy, but have you seen his legs? Tremendous. That's another guy suspected of being on the juice. That's like saying, "Oh c'mon. Osama Bin Laden isn't a crazy terrorist! He can't be. Afterall, he hung out with Saddam Hussein!"

If you are gonna say he's hitting the ball well, and like someone, don't compare two guys that have been/are on steroids. At least compare him to like John Olerud or something! Hahah.
