Under your gear?

Recommended Posts

PuckskinAnyone use puckskin? I definately recomend puckskin to anyone in need of something under your gear. Way better that Nike Dri-fit or Under armor. I just got it in Vancouver B.C. and it is great. It is comfortable and it keeps me dry and clean from bacteria and such.

I traded a pair of gloves with Greg at PuckSkin, but he's not as good at getting to the Post Office as I am, so I'm still sweating under my equipment..... ;)

I've had friends tell me it's outstanding and I'll post my impressions shortly.

I have both Puckskin and the underarmour compression longsleeve. i've used both for a while now and i noticed that the UA wicks more moisture away from skin compared to the puckskin.

I use Nike Dri-Fit (the stuff that was on Making The Cut ATLT01) and UnderArmour turf gear.

Give or take, all the moisture wicking shirts/pants are the same. One does not work better than the other(s).

Not according to my friends who've used the PuckSkin, because it has silver yarns that wicks away odors as well as the moisture. They're also adding this cool innovation onto the neck tag that sucks up all odors.

One one of the common complaints I heard at the tradeshows was how bad the UnderArmour starts to reek. So, if the moisture wicking is the same, then I'm looking forward to the PuckSkin because it would obviously be better if there's no smell.

I use a adidas longsleeve shirt most of the time but sometimes i switch to my UA coldgear longsleeve. I like the adidas because its a thinner and more skin tight. Besides those I have the UA pants and knee high soxs. And theres a simple little thing that fixes that smell. Its called a washing machine. Try it.

Actually, I'm one of the few on my team who uses the washing machine. Others brag about not opening their bag for weeks or not washing their jersey all season.

Right now I'm only going off friends' input, but if all else is equal -- price, wicking, durability -- then I'd say the garment with more functionality is a better value.

Again, I'll post my impressions shortly.

While I haven't used Puckskin, I've tried most of the others and nothing works as well as WSI for me.

Uhhh. I hate that. I have to open my bag and air everything out. Maybe wash it once in a while too.Wet gear is soo nasty.

I have used Nike Dri-Fit in the tight fit shirt. I felt like I was freezing in it. It moved all the warm sweat off my body and my back would seize up. Not good when I already have a bad back to begin with. Then after the skate I would have to take it off immediately in the locker room because I was freezing again. Now I have a Nike Dri-Fit Loose top long sleeve. I like this shirt a ton more. It doesn't leave me freezing to death on the bench. The size large is a bit too long in the sleeves for me. Last week my gloves were soaked into the palm from all the sweat coming off the sleeves. Even the backhand wrist pad was drenched through the nylon on a pair of Cooper nylon pro model gloves. I'd say the Nike Dri-fit loose top will do the job.

Who is distributing Puckskin? Are they in USA or just Canada? Any info would be appreciated.

Peter,

I've had a number of conversations recently with Greg Beaudin, who is the President of PuckSkin. He's out of Vancouver, while his brother and father own a couple of hockey stores in Orlando. (His father, Norm, played for the North Stars and Jets). I'd suggest contacting Greg to see who's repping for him in the US. His email is greg@modernhockey.com.

Again, I haven't used it yet, but I've had friends tell me it's excellent.

Hi All

Greg Beaudin, here, We have the US distribution rights for PuckSkin.

Modern Hockey is our vehicle to sell and market unique, innovative hockey products like PuckSkin.

The product cred. is directly a result of its creator Greg Mac. a lifetime innovator of technical fabric for the snowboard and ski industry.

A couple of points to make re: PuckSkin

If you watched Making the Cut last year, you will notice that the show was sponsored heavily by Nike. However, the Head Trainer, Peter Twist, was wearing PuckSkin throughout. It's guys like him that understand the subtle differences between certain technical fabrics. PuckSkin does feel different and performs differently, in principle, to compression based undergarments, therefore will not wick all of the moisture away for the purpose of heat retension(homeostasis) I can explain offline if you are interested. greg@puckskin.ca

I hate to come off as too salesy on these boards, so if anyone would like an explanation on how our garments work, from the source, please don't hesitate to ask.

Also, we welcome all of your feedback and look forward to sharing some of our thoughts on base layers in the coming months. We will be updating our website soon to reflect a brand new crop of elite players that are wearing PuckSkin because they prefer it to the other brands.

cheers,

GB

BTW:

Jason, your PuckSkins are on an airplane somewhere traveling from Vancouver to Colorado. Your PG gloves are awesome!

Greg,

I met your dad in Quebec at the BNH FLD conference in June! I asked him for some old hockey gloves! See if he remembers. Please contact me directly as I am interested to hear more about your product.

Thanks,

Peter

So does the fact that not all the sweat wicks off similar to the underarmor "all season" shirts and gear vs. thier turf or heat designed performance apparell?

I don't know about anyone else, but one of the reasons I use UnderArmour/Dri-Fit is because they do keep me dry and cooler. Heat retention ? Even with these things on I sweat like an animal and am hot, and this is true even when I'm playing outdoors in colder temperatures than I would ever see in an indoor rink. When I am playing hockey I am never, ever cold.
