Wood Blades

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to trying out a wood blade after using composite for a while. My friend used wood and said he had a much better feel for the puck. I want to give it a try. I don't want a blade that will get soft and crack after a few pracitces. My pattern of choice is Madono, so when you give suggestions please leave the pattern number/name too. I really don't know much about wood blades these days. The new Bauer Fusion line of blades caught my eye, but I don't know. Please leave suggestions.

If you use a "real wood" blade, take the tape off the blade as soon as you get off the ice. It should help prolong the life of the blade. Waxing the tape should help as well.

Been using Bauer's new 7500 blades in a few short hosel shafts... Bauer XV and Synthesis. I'm playing D1 and D2 Men's league. So far the 7500 blade has lasted me 12 games and just started to get a little softer and flexier... but still strong. Taken plenty of hacks too. At $24 a blade I'll go thru about 3 for 38 game season.

I find the feel and accuracy of this blade to be superior to the composite blades. I've tried them all... I also found that waxing the tape did not allow much water to sink into the blade.. even when not removing the tape.

Bauer 4000 blades are decent only if you want to try out a new curve. They turn into noodles after about 1 or 2 sessions and crack in numerous places.

if you're willing to spend the money go custom.

If not, I remember a long time ago kids on my team loved Montreal blades. And Titan blades, but alas, those no longer exist.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have Christian make me some customs when I get some more cash together. A drury clone, blade a bit longer on a 4.5 lie, tapered short hosel. Noice.

I prefer the Easton RB pro's over any other woody. IMHO, woody's last so much longer than any other types (for inline at least). I can still find a plethora of Yzerman's too in this blade!

Clifnotes: Easton RB pro wood blades kick arse.

I just got Eazy's 4.5 lie customs in late yesterday. I sent him some pics but the lighting in the shop isn't great. I'll try to get some good ones tomorrow.

I used easton wood blades (the ones that have two "carbon" stripes on them, dont remember the name) and they were pretty durable and cheap.

If it has 2 thick stripes then alot of thin stripes towards the bottom, that would be an RB Pro. Glad to see someone else likes them.

For 18 bucks you can't go wrong.

Only problem with the RBPro is that it is a hickory hosel...will provide better feel but won't be very stiff. As a matter of fact, had one come in a few days ago, snapped at the tenon.

How much of a 'trashin do you give the blade? All the times I've used mine, they all chipped and cracked from the bottom. Never broke at the hosel. You must be a pretty hardcore dude?
