the blues would be straight up RIPPING the pens a new one on that trade. in my opinion lalime is not one of the better vet goalies they could get for m.a. fleury

Straight up 1 for 1 it seems lopsided. Maybe there are other players/picks involved that would even the deal out a bit.

I doubt the trade will happen. Just way to one sided.

That being said the in the "new NHL" bad organizations will still be bad. The Pens and the Bruins prove this for sure.

I am impressed, thus far, with the Rangers. I think they FINALLY get it.

I don't think the Blues could make any combination of players they have in order to have the talent to trade for Fleury.

maybe caron or even t-bone, but that's just pure insanity if they trade fleury. and why would the pens want lalime? isn't he hurt?

Lalime makes $2.4M and MAF can make over $4M in salary and bonuses if he's permitted to play in the NHL. The Pens would have to shed a little salary as well to make sure they get their revenue sharing check.

Who did they trade up to avoid in the draft to get MAF? Staal and Horton right? If this goes through, I will have lost all respect for the Pens.

Why would the Pens trade their future franchise goalie?

I have watched MA play a lot in the past few years. I am a Hershey Bears season ticket holder, so I actually got to watch him live a lot as well. He is good, no question there. HOWEVER, he is often weak when things get exciting. Perhaps they want to unload him because they fear that if they ever make the playoffs he will be a "Yashin" like player?

In a nutshell, MA Fleury is not as good as everybody thinks he is. I doubt he will ever be able to shake the World Junior mistake.

Lalime is day to day with a bruised knee. Not a huge deal.

Wow, he's how old? Since when did any goalie come in that young and be worth anything? Even Luongo took a few years and two teams to get where he's at.

I said the same thing a while ago and got crucified for it. Kinda funny...

Come on now. The only thing killing the B's right now is the softy a game that Toivonen has a knack for letting in.

I take your guys words seriously since you get to see him play. But at what? 21?...He still has a few years to correct any flaws.

Indeed he does and he could of course prove me wrong. Still, I just get the "feel" that he is not a 'winner'. I get the feel that while he is technically very good and all that, he is missing some of the intangible factor that will keep him from being a superstar. I have yet to see him STEAL a game.

How about this? What if he just cannot shake the stigma of being a number one pick? Alex Daigle comes to mind.....

Still, he is a kid and has a lot of years to get better. We shall see. But if I were a GM, he would NOT be my "franchise player".

He's better at his age than anyone that's come into the league recently. Just won the AHL goalie of the month award, has shown spots where he's just amazing with no defense in front of him at the NHL level.

But yeah, he's a bust at a month before his 21st birthday

I got to see Toivonen a few times last year. FWIW, I think he IS the goods. His problems are between his ears. He needs to forget about the last goal and think about the next save. Watch how he usually sulks for a few seconds after most goals. I saw it again on a few ESPN highlights...

Seriously though, this kid is going to be good as long as he can stay healthy.

And Jason Labarbera was the AHL MVP two years ago and broke AHL records for shutouts and GAA in a season. Let's call him the next Patrick Roy! Remember when Scott Langkow won player of the month? Yea, Scott Langkow. That guy.

Oh and you will be hard pressed to find anyone, other than Pens homers to say Fleury is better than Kari Lehtonen, so that "He's better than anyone at his age in the NHL recently" shtick, doesnt stick.

They traded Mikael Samuelson (sp?), the guy who is now in Detroit using the Salming gear, and their first round pick (#3?) to move up to the number one spot. Then again my mind could be going and I could be wrong.

The first round of that draft is already looking like one of the best in a long time. Patrice Bergeron in the second round, Pirnes in the 6th(LA), and the Pens got Chiodo(goalie) even later and he's already played 8 games in the NHL.
