I have a Cage at the moment but was thinking of getting a Itech FX 50 NB Optech Full Visor i've heard of fogging up and scratching but which would YOU prefer?

Looks like this:

In the the late Spring, early Fall and Summer I wear a cage. Last Winter and this upcoming Winter I'll be wearing the Itech visor (like the one pictured above). I also have 2 extra visors to use when my current one gets too badly scratched. There's been alot of discussion on this board about how to keep the fogging down on the visor but I'm a heavy sweater and I have the problem of sweat running down across the visor. The clear field of vision, without any vertical and horizontal lines however, is worth the occassional sweat that I have to wipe off the visor.

Another question would that visor pictured above fit a CCM 652 helmet?

It will fit, just make sure you get the correct size. The FX50 comes in small or large. Taking the visor out between games and wrapping it in a towel will help cut down on the scratches that happen off the ice.

I've worn a cage for most of my life, but I did try a half shield several years ago and ended up going back to the full cage. I'd recommend a cage over a shield - it doesn't fog up, has great ventalation, doesn't get scratched, and is very durable. Also make sure you get one with a white inner surface - black on the inside makes it a bit harder to see out of the cage. I use an Itech I2 right now that's black on the outside, but white on the inside.

A shield provides a bit better visability when it's fog free and isn't all scratched up, but they tend to get a bit hotter, will scratch over time no matter how you care for them (generally less durable), and you may experience a bit of fogging, although that's not the issue it once was anymore as they've improved the shields over time.

if your careful with the visor, it will last very very long, like don't jump everywhere after a goal or something or after the game, put it in a helmet bag. If I was you, I would get an itech concept II full visor.

sure you can see a bit better with the visor obviously but it's just not worth what you have to go through with it...i've tried them at one point and it wasn't worth it. Seems like if you get ONE scratch on it, it completely ruins the visor. Also the replacements get a bit pricy. :o

Cage <_<

Isn't that the full-plastic model? I'd go with the FX50 or the 920 series so you can replace the visor when it gets scratched up.

I have used both a full shield and various cages. When you weigh out all the pros and cons (as some of you already mentioned) I like the cage. Right now my favourite cage is the Itech I2 (black outside / white inside).

I say cage. Visors seem to be more of a hassle than they are worth. With the scratching and fogging and weaker ventilation, I would much rather take a cage. When I am wearing a cage during the season I don't have to worry about it. The only time it really bothers me is when I am first starting to wear it coming back from summer when I don't wear anything. That takes 2-3 ice times to get used to but it seems like nothing once I am used to it. I have a black jofa 480 cage btw.

Have used a visor and a cage, and I prefer a cage. A visor gets much hotter and fogs up. Although you can avoid scratches on a visor by treating your helmet with care, I prefer to be able to chuck the helmet around without having to worry about scratching a visor. I find the visibilty with a cage to be acceptable.

I used to wear a visor, now I wear a full cage. It's just not worth the risk of getting your teeth or nose messed up by a guy who can't control his stick.

I'll take teeth AND nose for $500, Alex (or actually close to $4000 after insurance covered 80%).

I've always used a visor and I've had two mishaps in 13 months. One where a stick flattened my 4 bottom teeth and broke my jaw. And 2 months ago, a stick tore all the way through my nostril and now I have a hideous scar (side note: always take stitches over Dermabond glue....my ER doc chose wrong.)

I'm planning on making the transistion to a cage sometime soon. My game is way off now since I'm always flinching when a stick even comes close.

Same here. It was an upward slash (the kid claimed that he was going for my stick) and his blade met my chin. Result was 4 stitches thanks to a Plastic Surgeon as I've previously had 17 stitches across my chin.

Definitely thinking about getting a cage.
