Roster Changes Next Year

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what you guys think of the rosters are going to look like next year (banking on there being a next year).

Colorado- OUT- Barnaby, Selanne, Kariya, Forsberg, Granato

Toronto- OUT- Francis, Reichel, Renberg, Nieuwendyk (I really hope not), Kidd, Quinn

Detroit- OUT- Shanahan*, Thomas, Hull, Chelios*,

Boston- OUT- Knuble, Murray or Rolston (1 of the 2)

I know theres 26 more teams, but those seem like the most disappointing ones. Should make for an interesting summer.

*= come back if willing to sign for significantly less

Hes under contract until 2008. I think that he never fully recovered from his knee, but hopefully he can get his shit together this off season.

Oh feel free to add other teams.

WHat about the D man from Detroit....The big guy, 6-6...Lots O' mistakes these playoffs...

You sound like Cherry trying to describe Antropov on Coaches Corner tonight.

Are those the only major UFA's for the Leafs?

With Boston, I just see some sort of change. I mean they've put together great regular season teams the past 4ish years, but they've done jack shit in the playoffs. Time for a change.

Leetch has one more year left on his contract.

Those are the only ones that I think won't be coming back. There are more. Theo posted a link, try that out.

Not so sure Barny will not resign w/ the Avs..

Yes, please.. say bye to Granato.. keep Tocchet though..]

Other teams..

Kings = Bye bye to Allison, possibly Deadmarsh

Ducks = Sykora maybe gone as he was shopped around during the deadline.

Blues = Will MacInnis retire ?

I believe Leetch has 1 more year left but maybe wrong.

If you mean Pat Quinn, than you can have him. He's had his chances in Toronto and although he revived the team to be perennial contenders, he just didn't develop a team worthy of being deemed Stanley Cup Champions. Time for someone else to come! Not Jacques! The should go for Quenneville or Beg Scottie to come out of retirement!

i wouldn't be suprised if some of these teams start looking to build their team like the sharks or flames. young, fast, hard working teams with relatively low bugets. its starting to finally sink into the heads of some gms that you can't just buy a stanley cup. detriot will probably just let their free agents go and let the euro kids take over the team. i could see hull staying because he works so well with them. i don't think the avs will suffer much with forsberg gone. sure he's one of the best players in the world, but only when he's there. they've played without him before and won, i'm sure they can do it again. svatos looks like he can play if he stays off the IR. the situation in st. louis could be interesting. pronger is either an unrestricted or restricted free agent. from what i've heard, the blues might not be able to afford his contract along with the other big name contracts on that team. but they also can't afford to lose him if macinnis retires. i'm sure the leafs will get another complete make over as well.

Hopefully Sundin will get dealt and therefore improve his chances of getting a Cup infinitely.

I'd look at Roberts and NEwy as a package deal. If one comes back then they both will. I'm confident that they will both be back. Newy played amazing and still has lots of jump. I'd maybe spare him a little for whenever the next season starts. Hopefully a shortened season'll help his durability in the playoffs.

Det- Devereaux is gone. Possibly Wooley as well.

If he didn't score in his one game in the playoffs, I'd agree with you, but that just makes things more difficult. I'd still like to see him go to a team where he'd be able to play more, but he isn't a bad 13th forward. If he leaves, then that'll leave more room for Hudler, Williams, Robinson, ect. to get more playing time.

Hatcher is a huge part of the Detroit future, as mentioned earlier in the thread......he has a 5 year, $30 million contract, they aren't trading him now.

Honestly, I can't stand the guy but Hatcher looked to me like a player that never was able to get his game going after a serious injury. He'll be better if he gets a full training camp and then stays relatively healthy through next season.

A lot of people in Dallas freaked with Hatcher left, but I was happy in a way. Now if they can get rid of Matvichuk. Talk about a cone, and it is just painful to watch him on the powerplay. I expect there to be big changes in Dallas this year.

I was certain that Granato was gone, but apparently Lacouix (I know I misspelled it) had a press conference and he said he didn't blame Tony at all, and that it was injuries that cost them the Cup.

A few changes I could see happening in the off season....

Lindros out of NY

Peca - also out of NY

Scott Stevens retire???

Deadmarsh retire???

Boston moving a couple of players

Toronto not re-signing FA's

Vancouver get a strong goalie (although goalie injuries helped ruin playoff hopes)

That's all for now. Comments?
