Thornton Gone!

Recommended Posts

Something for the conspiracy theorists to mull over about the Thornton deal. His latest contract included a no-trade clause, but it didn't kick in until year 2 of the deal. Could have been a little season ticket bait and switch.

FWIW, the no trade clause doesn't carry over from team to team. So in effect, the clause is now null and void.

I think I remember that the Bruins wanted to sign Thorton for 7 years, right? He initially wanted only 1 year, right? So they met at 3 years with a no-trade-clause after the first... I mean I don´t know what´s going on behind curtains but that smelled like they (both sides) were sure to part ways during this season in my opinion. Which I think is the best of it for the organization and the Player. Boston would have gotten nothing in return for him later on and now they got a solid 2nd line winger with 20 goal potential who is also a PK specialist + a gritty 3rd line center + a Top 2 d-man who is still young + a little more room under the cap if I´m not mistaken. On the other end San Jose seems to develop a win now mentality and might have though a player like Thornton would be the missing piece to their bid for a cup. So after all I think the trade did indeed make sense in most ways.

I'm sure you have a point (somewhere other than the one on the top of your head) but I just can't seem to find it in that post.

I have been amazed how many times SOME Bruins fans take the approach of "if you dont think this is a good trade for the B's then your dumb!"

"Hell Feakin O" If you think the Bruins are so SMART with there moves Ill finish this post with one series of numbers

1972!

I think Eazy was looking for a reponse to his well-supported comparison of Stuart and Hannan, not just another brainless personal attack. Even if Eazy had never stood on skates in his life, he has added a lot more useful information to this board than your 16 little "I'm-a-hockey-god" comments.

I do play hockey, I am just currently out of the minor hockey system. I made it as high as Junior B, then dropped out to focus on schooling. I don't see a relevance in where I've played, some of the best coaches in the world have never played the game, but I will post my resume if you like.

I've played hockey for many years now at varying levels. I've studied the game since I was a little one. Both my Father and I have worked very hard on our knowledge, we've studied various types of games from the Russian style, to Sweedish styles to the Canada brand of hockey. I've coached for 3 years now, reffed in the past as well. When I went to get my coaching card I was asked to help teach the class. The heads of hockey around here will call the house every once in a while asking for advice on how to improve our system and such. I've ran a few mens league teams, played in a few summer tourneys against "kids of your calibre" and such.

If you want to talk hockey, I'm more than willing to discuss, but you need to come forth with an argument. I don't believe "Hannon played for Canada" qualifies. Especially since a player like Rob Zamuner played for Canada, while Bertuzzi has not. You are more than welcome to attack my knowledge of the game, I've had many debates on this form with people who disagreed. You need to actually present something though, your have just sat back and not said a word. I replied to your Blake assumption, which you misinterpreted, but you haven't come forth with anything.

- It's Hannan by the way, Hannan, not Hannon.
