Websites on moves and dekes?

Recommended Posts

Do you guys know of any sites that have a bunch of moves or dekes that I can practice? I am having a hard time finding anything.

When my friends and I play pick-up hockey at the rink, we spend tonnes of time just doing shootouts, and its becoming pretty competitve :D

I wanted to find some moves that I can try other than my usual wrist shot 15 ft away from the net <_<

HOly shit!! the skinner dude in the video has some crazy stick handling skills!

It does look pretty impressive, but he seems to have his head down most of the time, which means getting popped in a real game...

If you just listen to the music you could think it was a porno ...

Nice stickhandling but how can someone chose THAT kind of music??

some of his breakaway dekes were amazing

he has a great camp as well. I helped him on the ice when he came to my rink. He really breaks down everything and if you are lookin' to get better, try to get to one of his camps

Buy the Turcotte DVD. It has basic and advanced moves. The forhand fake and backhand fake are pretty basic and effective at the lower levels.

It explains everything and demos them. You can work on your hand movements with a "Smart Hockey" ball.

Also try looking here for some drills with the smart hockey ball.

Doing these drills progressively will improve your stick handling to the point you will be able to do the moves.

They look pretty, but watch them again and instead of watching Skinner, watch the goalie. He makes very sure not to do anything that might show Skinner up -- he just kind of coasts out of the way on half the shots, and a bunch of those Skinner is close enough that a decent goalie would poke the puck right off his stick. Scoring pretty goals on a goalie who's obviously afraid to challenge you isn't really all that impressive. A lot of the stuff he does in the video would get you creamed even in a non-checking league.

And yeah, his head is always down. It's kind of amusing because one of the first things in that video is a little graphic showing that you should always be looking up, and he then spends the rest of the video staring straight down at the puck. It'd be more impressive if he could pull off those moves by feel.

I'm not saying he's no good -- those moves are tricky even watching the puck and not being pressured by D/goalie -- just saying that it's pretty clearly marketing material, and I don't know how a lot of that stuff would work in anything other than a shootout or skills competition.

he can pull them off with his head up. I have worked with him on the ice before. He has also made some of our better midget goalies look very bad with some of thoes same moves. Of course he needs the goalies to act a little in the video because he is tryin' to sell a product. He has broken down every little move you could make and has figured out a good way to teach them. I also like how at every camp he does he wants local coaches on the ice as well so that they can be teaching all year around what he has tought in one week.

I have had Skinner's video sets for a couple years now, and they have helped me a ton with dekes. IMO, this guy is the best out there, other that the original (turcotte).

I like some of those breakaway moves, but the one where he throws his gloves past the goalie to distract him, is that even legal? I could see doing it in pick-up or something, but if someone were to do that during a game?

very impressive but at 30$ for each dvds is kinda step...for one is good but when you whant the set is pretty costly...

I've been to the turcotte camp( i know personnally, one of the turcotte) so i had a deal...camp is good...but like you remember the move for like 2-3 month...after you can't do these moves cuz you can't all remember

Like I said, I wasn't trying to say the guy wasn't good -- I'm sure he can stickhandle better watching the puck, which makes for flashier moves and thus sells more DVDs. ;) Same reason with the goalie, and I've no doubt his DVDs have helpful stuff in them. I just was pointing out that in a real game he wouldn't be anywhere near as flashy -- still good, sure, but a little more realistic. :D

Why is this guy not playing in the pro's!?!

haha because one trick ponies don't make it to the nhl. you gotta have real all-around skills

Exactly. It's like the AND1 Mixtape guys...all style, no substance - I mean, just look at Rafer Alston...
