Worst Call ever made against you

Recommended Posts

my worst call, all 3 hit from behinds i got last year. if you hit someone head on, and they fly backwards, and go face first into the boards, you shouldn't get dinged. drove me nuts.

That actually should be a boarding call, not hit from behind.

Since last posting, i have updates.....

Our coach has the worst luck, playing a game we should have won, two of the guys on the other team receive coincidental pens for roughing after trying to start a fight, from the very next face off it all kicks off, goalie on goalie, and the full benchs on the ice, their two players in the box were the first out on the ice, so we absolutly kill their team broken noses a concussion and i think a jaw. But being the other teams home refs, apparently we started the fight, all the players got their individual penalties, their coach 1 match for failure to control the bench, our coach, 8 matches for the same call. As the game was still in play (7 seconds left) But the same coach is doing a match with a different age group, one of their guys does a headbutt on a guy wearing a half visor, so the same scenario, brawl, yet in this game, because the game had ended, there were no penalties called!!!!!!

The other was in my last game, puck goes round the board, i go to finish the hit, the other kid stops to avoid it, falls over, absolutely no contact and i get 2 for tripping, same game a kid grabs onto my stick, i let go, he calls the ref and i get 2 for hooking, he starts to get lippy, so i just give him a warning jab around the chin, another 2 mins for roughing alothough the ref did not see it it was the player who pretty much called the penalty........

But its nice to see there are bad/biased refs everywhere

Well one that comes to mind.

So I'm on a breakaway (it was at the end of a shift so I tierd.) As I'm running out of gas, I see the defensemen catch up to me, so I throw it to my right hand and try to protect the puck long enough for some help, well the defensemen gets his stick under mine and lifts it up, then he hits it so hard it flies back and hits him in the helmet. I get a penalty for high sticking.

That is a very comon call, I see that alot, it is a stupid call, in those cases i think that the ref should use common sense if the person intentionally hit the player in the head with his stick, or was it lifted up and couldnt be brought down.

You must have control of your stick at all times. Look at the penalty a week ago when Fischer on Ottawa took a stick to the face. Neil tried a run at an opposing player, can't remember who it was right now. The player avoided most of Neil's hit but his stick wound up whipping around because of the hit and caught Fischer in the face. Result: high sticking penalty on the opposing player.

first of all i hate when someones got their head down and you go to nail them and they glance up attempt a spin-o-rama and u cant back off andyou collide with their back. i got chucked out a game for that.

1 game i was playing i was dropping back in d on the PP and 2 guys that had formed the box charges at me, i dump it in the same side boards it rimmed round to the other corner and hit the ref on the ass, i get a 2+10

my captain goes up to the ref and says clearly "c'mon ref, he didnt mean it he was just dumping it on the boards" he then gives my captain a misconduct.

another time my teammate smokes this guy fair and someone in the crowd shouts "MAKE A CALL YOU FAT DISASTER" and he gives the opposing team (not my team) a bench-minor:lol:

last but not least when i was a 10 year old playing (i was the best in my league at that time) i had scored my 9th goal in that game, this huge kid came at me i sidestepped him and he kneed me (all hockeyplayers know about the trailing leg) and i fall down. he chucks me out the game for diving!

happy laughs:lol:

This is the best call I have ever witnessed. I was playing in a high school. My D partner took a shot that went off the post and in the net, but the ref said that it didn't go in. On the next faceoff he drills the puck into the net. Then he points at the net and asks the ref "Was that one in?" :D Ref gives him 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. It was great.

I got 4 consecutive interference/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in a beginner hockey league.

I wasn't trying to interfere. I was skating toward the puck, as was the opponent, it's a beginners league, so naturally all heads were down, I am bigger than the people I was going to the puck with, and each time, they fell, I stood, barely.

This is a beginners league, and is technically "no contact" but they allow some, the fact that I knocked people down, albeit unintentionally, got me called for penalties all the live long day.

But I am going to see if I can charm the ref with the line from the trash talk thread "Hey ref, does your wife know you are screwing us"

For that will surely work

I was screening a goalie once and i got spun around (facing the goal)...puck was shot while i had my back to the shooter and it deflected off my skate and in the net. The ref called no goal. I went up to him and asked him how i could have possibly made any kind of kicking motion when i was planted and didn't know the puck was coming at me anyways. his reply was "it doesn't matter if you kicked it or not, once it hits your skate and goes in, its no goal" i asked him what rule book he was going by... he didn't answer me <_<

A few years ago, a fight broke out just outside my crease with a real hot-head on my team and some no-skilled cocky kid who just went around taking cheap shots at everyone, myself included. Anyways it started when the kid ran the net trying trying to take me out of the game. After the whistle the kid kept hitting me with his stick and I just kept laughing cuz he hit like a girl (no offense to any out there). Out of the blue, my teammate hits him from behind skating full speed. After a while of my buddy beating the crap out of this kid, I tried to pull him off and then had to sit on him to calm him down. the whole time, the refs were just sitting there while my teammate had the kid pinned on the ground, helmet off. I do not doubt that had I not pulled Nate off, he would have sent the kid to the hospital. I got a game misconduct for instigation, fighting, and crossing the redline (appearantly the goal line counts as being red?!?!) The ref tried to kick me out of that game and the next. What idiots!! We were like 14 and they kicked back and watched everything unfold.

After our game last night I had to dig this topic up. While it wasn't a penalty against me, it was just a complete screw up all the way around.

One guy from each team is battle against each other in front of the net, shot goes on net and puck goes in. We line up for the faceoff at center ice and they put one guy from the other team in the box. I asked the guy dropping the puck what the call was and he didn't know, so I told him I wanted to know before the faceoff. I asked the other ref and he said there were matching minors, but the since the puck went in the net, the penalty on our team was washed out. The end result was a goal against us and their man in the box.

Now I have ten years experience as a ref and my goalie has at least that much experience as a ref and has even done nationals when they were in the region. The two refs meanwhile had maybe five years combined and have never done anything above beer league or squirts. After ten minutes of discussion, they put one guy from each team in the box and move the faceoff down in our zone. The goal was obviously disallowed. It's one thing to make a mistake, we all do that, but to pick the one potential outcome that wasn't possible under any interpretation of the rules was just amazing.

In roller I was skating away from the only ref for that game I lifted a guys stick and he had no control over it and hit himself in the face. The guy drops like he just got shot so I got a 10 minute high sticking penalty.

Tie game, one minute and change left. The other team's center is in the crease, actually hugging the inside of the right hand post so that he's between the goalie and the net. The shot gets lobbed in from the point, way high, so the center grabs it, and tosses it down onto our goalie's back, where it bounces off and goes in. The ref signals goal. "That's a goal, because it went in off your goalie," he says.

"He was in the crease, and he actually grabbed and threw it."

"Yeah, I saw that, but it went in off your player, so it counts as a goal."

Pointless to argue. It's always a tragedy when siblings marry.

There is some real magic logic on display in this thread.

I once got five and a game for butt-ending -- while making a blocker save.

No history between the ref and myself, the ref and my team, our coach and the ref's wife - nothing. Weak shot from the top of the right circle, short side, I swat it away, and as I do, the shaft of my stick hits one of their guys coming around behind the net: one tweet and two minutes of insane blather later, I'm done for the night, and my team's up a certain creek without a certain implement.

wow i'm glad i found this thread....

i was playing a game a while ago were my defensive partner got caught low in their zone and was burnt coming out, so im skating backward over center ice and here comes my partner lifting other other kids stick, he (other kid) had his head down and i saw the chance to take the open ice hit and i did leveling them both, the other kid was ''hurt'' so the ref blows the whistle.....penalty on me...for hooking!:angry:

when I was younger, in an age group before bodychecking was allowed, two players on my team ran into each other behind the net and the ref gave one of them 2 minutes for body contact.

I subbed on a house league team that same year and there was a kid who couldn't skate, he fell down as an opposing player approached and got a minor for diving.

a few seasons later our ref showed up drunk. he gave the crowd a delay of game penalty for not doing the wave, and our team a bench minor for "dancing without music". it was one of the weirdest games I ever played. the cops showed up in the 2nd period.

Earlier this season I was taking a faceoff in their zone. I lose it and the puck goes into their corner, so I start to skate after it. The guy on their team decides to slow me down by putting the blade of his stick around my shins and yanking. Both of my legs were off the ground and I landed flat on my chest. I get up and look at the ref since he was still right there. I ask him where that penalty was. He says "you skated into his stick and fell". I used a couple bad words in disbelief and that was enough for me to go to the locker room.

We played that same team again recently and there was another brilliant call. There is this one typical showoff kid on the team. You know the guy.... pretty good out there but when he messes up, he can do one of 2 things, quit and stop playing or do a cheapshot against whoever stole the puck from him. So, towards the end of the game, I get the puck away from this guy and start skating it up. He is pretty fast and catches up and throws an elbow to my head. Boom, both of us go to the box. I didn't even bother asking why, didn't want to get kicked out again.

Last year in the Atlantic District Championships - the game was to play into the 3 game series the next weekend, the winner of the series would go to nationals - my team was on powerplay in overtime and were on the umbrella i am on the left give the guy on the top a one timer and his stick explodes. The penalty killer picks up the puck and goes on a breakaway but he doesn't get a shot off- thanks to thanks to someone's great backcheck- but when he was picking up the puck he kicked the bottom piece of the broken stick down the ice. The ref called a penalty shot saying my teammate threw his stick at the player, in hopes of disrupting the breakaway. After a few minutes of arguing they also gave my teammate 2 minutes for "unsportsmanlike conduct." Long story short- save on breakaway, goes into shootout, 7 rounds later we win.

We also won the next series when the other team's best player got thrown out for punching the linesman (what an idiot!)- but we got destroyed in nationals. Great experience overall

this reminds me of one, except I got what I deserved, in the end. I was slew footed in the slot, i look to the ref, he Shrugs his shoulders, so I go after the guy into our zone and give him a body check, which draws an immediate delayed penalty, then as he gets up, I trip him and he drops, then the whistle blows. I got two moinors a ten and a game.

In a ball hockey league once I went hard with a guy into the corner, clipped him in the face accidentally. He was bleeding, and under their rules if there's no blood, it's 2 minutes as usual, but if there's blood you're gone for the game.

Damnit, but fine.

Next game, same ref, I get clipped with a high stick. I quickly get off the floor and one of my teammates says that I'm bleeding. I turn to the ref (literally, 30 seconds after the penalty) and tell him I'm bleeding. He told me that I should have showed him earlier because I could have gone to the bench and cut myself.

I had a few choice words for him. The fact that I got cut didn't bother me, but holy hell, the fact that he had the gall to say that to me was infuriating, to say the least.

Also in ball hockey, championship game, one of my buddies gets high-sticked, hard, and blatantly. Drops, bleeding all over the place (needed stitches later), no call. The ref actually said to us, "It was accidental."

Hell broke out after that.

I refuse to play ball hockey in Winnipeg anymore. The refereeing is absolutely horrendous.
