this Ovechkin guy is kinda good

I really don't want to know what the caps would be without Ovechkin. He had a goal and 3 assists which brings him to 19 goals and 19 assists. Not bad for someone who they said needed to work on his passing and playmaking. And to top it all off, he is only a -1 for the season after tonight. Normaly not good, but on a team with only 11 wins, that is not too shabby.

I don't know if I've ever posted this here...but I know I've had thw conversation with people...

I think this year...and probably for the next 3-4 years, Ovy will put up bigger numbers...probably win the Calder, may lead the league in scoring before Crosby does...but 15-18 years from now, Crosby will have put together a better overall career...he will have more points...more playoff wins...he will have been a Captain...maybe more than once depending how FA treats him. But, for the next few years, Crosby will be chasing Ovy on the stat list.

I like that fact the AO is a physical player. Also, he seems to be more mature on ice than Crosby, but I'm sure that will change in a few years.

No chance, unless AO ends up with at least 20 more points. This was decided before he was even drafted, its "better" for the NHL to have Sid win than a Russian who isn't a media whore.

Whoever is the better player at the end of THIS year should win. Thats not reality but its how it should be.

Are you saying that Ovechkin won't be a captain? I mean, yes its rare for a Russian to be a captain, but if anyone has the tools to do it, he does. Kid plays his heart out every single shift and is just genuinely happy to be in the show. Plays a tempo Crosby can only dream of. Crosby seems to think the NHL is a given for him. Taking potshots at your former coach, trying to boss around veterans, whining like a bitch after diving when the refs dont call penalties...not leadership material.

I think Crosby is going to mature into a leader....I'm not fully up on the story involving the coach, so I won't comment, but seeing as how he has ben the only consistant performer on Pitt this year...if they vets need to hear him bark a bit, I have no problem with that.

Ovy could Captain a team someday...but like you said, Russian C's are rare.

These are very early observations...I may very well be proven wrong as time goes on.

Crosby is under Lemieux`s wing so he is going to act like Lemieux. Lets face it Lemieux is a great player but NO ONE whines as much as Lemieux used to.I never liked the way Lemieux carried himself off the ice crying about this and that Crosby is following in his footsteps.

phaneuf i say might be one of the best dmen in the league right now, he plays like hes been in this league for like four years already and he is also a well balanced ,physical can play D extremely well and he has eight goals already.

I'm gonna have to put out the name Andrej Mezaros. He's bee fairly solid with the sens. Also he has a pretty good +/-. Before you guys go like "well, he plays for the sens", think about this: if he lets in lots of goals, then his plus minus wouldn't be leading the league.

One thing you got to remember, Crosby is 18 and Ovechkin is 20. On another note, who ever mentioned " I wonder how good Ovechkin would be if he played on a team Crosby plays on " Whats the difference between the 2 teams? A win maybe? As for the players like Leclair and Recchi i have heard there names next to none on highlights. I think there teams are pretty damn even.

I think the point you make is what I and other have been trying to point out all along.

Crosby IS only 18. Great skills and future but to do what Mario and Wayne did at the same age is very special. Unlike what the media would like to think Crosby will not be a Mario or Wayne.
