Last I checked, the center of gravity is in Rochester, MI.

I just have to laugh because I've received skates for repair and sharpening from the Boston area and I've told them to go there first... :)

Depends on what shop they've hit in the Boston area and who at the shop was doing the work.

That one, even though I heard they do good repair work. I have no idea who they dealt with. It's really no biggie.

It can happen if Wayne or one other guy, whose name escapes me, aren't the ones at the wheel. Plus, with how busy they get at times there are more kids working there than in years past. That's why I usually head in at off peak times when it isn't a sharpening factory in there. Oh, and never go there on a Saturday unless you have time to kill.

Maybe the guys with Vapor XXX don't like the way you sharpen skates! You do have this anti-Bauer vibe going!

On the contrary about the sharpening. We are the best in our area and perhaps the world!

I'm just stating facts about the so-called popularity of the XXX in my area. Regional demographics is a big factor. So while one can say 90% of AAA team player have XXX's in X area, it can be totally different in another. Exactly why you can get chittlings at McDonalds in the deep south!

I'm not anti-Bauer, just anti-hype. I haven't drank the purple "coolaid" like some, ... cough, cough. Part of the function of this board is to discuss problems, not to just suck up to the lurking manufacturers. Bauer makes a lot of great products and I sell a lot of them in my store, some are best selling items, like cages, helmets, etc. Having said that, they also make some crap. Anyone who has had broken steel can attest to that. Five kids playing in a tournement came in yesterday to have steel replaced. They were not happy campers, missed part or all of critical games. The number one piece of equipment with the most problems is skates, either with manufacturing quality or durability. I just don't have many CCM customers come in and say, they are fed up with CCM and will never buy their skates again.

Jimmy, are you a Bauer elite or First Line Dealer at all??? If you are, you must be stucked with a lot of XXX inventory if there are only 3-4 pairs of Vapor XXX in your area, with all the minimum order program Bauer has.

And if you aren`t this kind of elite dealer, that`s totally normal you don`t have consumers going to your shop with XXX to sharpen... when`s the last time you saw a guy with a Porsche going to a Hyundai dealer for an oil change???

Getting a sharpening isn't really product specific the same way car repair is. If a shop does a good job then that's where people will go, regardless of where they bought the skates.

Jimmy Wolf,

Very perceptive.... He has no NBH account. Do you think there might be an axe to grind too while he is sharpening one of those 1500 pairs of skates?

I don't know, you can make more over the long run off a person who gets their skates sharpened at your shop than if you sold them a pair of skates and they went elsewhere for sharpenings.

Why not do both??? Isn`t the best. To sell someone a great skate, and then sharpen it forever...

I don't know, after seeing the slovakia world junior team and going to a couple of the games, Vapor XXX's are clearly the preffered skates. Every game i watch it seems like at least 3-4/5 players are wearing vapor xxx's. Team USA only had one pair of 9k's, slovakia had two. Even the majority of the Norway team was rocking vapor xxx's.

How many do you see on youth teams? Even teams from fairly well-to-do areas have far more low end models than XXXs.

Chadd, its time for a road trip. Visit Philly on Saturday or Sunday when Atlantic Youth teams are in from DC, Hollydale, NJ Devils, NJ Colonials, and Ice House Avalanche. I'm sure you will be surprised by the number of travel youth players(AAA, AA, A,) who wear Vapor XXX. These teams are in my building every weekend. The #1 skate we sharpen is easily Vapor XXX among these travel players. Maybe it is regional but it is real.

Visit our arenas, you won't see that. Of my 1500 regular sharpening customers, perhaps 5 or 6 have XXX's. Only one is an adult, one is a Junior, the others are high schoolers. That's a very small percentage. Mid-range Bauers and CCM's are the majority for sure.

I'm a little over an hour outside of philly (west) and what I see is the same thing Jimmy mentioned. Lots of mid line skates and a couple of V30s. Out of the four programs within half an hour or so of me I would say less than 20 kids have the V30s. V19, V8, Vector 6 or pro are probably the top sellers in this area.

When it comes to competitive hockey in this area, XXX is the top skate. I'm talking about travel players and the like. As far as the regular public goes, your mid-range skates rule.

really nice looking skate, gloves are really bad mind you......lets hope that the retail model of the skate does not have the Nike swoosh on them they should keep them as they are in the picture....that and of course put the regular LS2 holder on them, nice picture however where did they come from?

Every team I play in CT has about half of their team in Vapor XXX skates . personally i was done with Bauer Skates after the Supreme 7000 came off the market(I had 5 pairs of them).IMO Bauer should of never took the Supreme 7000 and Bauer Vapor 10 skates off the market.

i must say i'm liking hte look of those bizarre one90 gloves more and more as i watch the juniors. with most innovative products, it takes a while to get used to them, but aftr the initial shock, things start looking beter. though my favouite gloves aestheically would be some black cable knit HGT's, the allblack one90s are starting to look really sweet

Exactly, I have people coming to my store every day with skates bought elsewhere, both old customers and new. As well as hundreds of internet customers from all over the country, serious hockey players who spend lots on shipping, so we are not talkng poor people. I would say I have a good representation of buyer trends from my area, as well as the U.S. in general. The XXX is about 2%. BTW, I do sell the XXX. Send me $440 and I'll send you a pair. :D

Zwickers.

ah, I see. They sent one of their spy's down to my store a couple of years ago. He came in pretending to be a customer, asking me all kinds of questions. He was one of their skate sharpeners, not sure which one. Only reason I even knew was because one of my sales reps who was visiting me recognized him. Funny thing was, he didn't have to hide his identity, if he wanted info on how to sharpen skates "correctly", I would have gladly taught him, ...... for a fee that is.

What is a rough estimate of the other 98%? I'm not trying to start a problem. I'm just curious as to what you see in your shop, with the area hockey guys plus your skates shipped in. Its up to you if you want to share the info on this thread. Thanks.

I ran a sales report yesterday from 1/1/05 to 12/27/05. The Bauer skates did outsell all other brands 5-1. The RBK/CCM skates my customers just are not interested in. I know this is totally a regional thing. The Fred Flintstone Russian feet guys buy CCM. They come over from Brighton Beach in the city. We sharpen their skates before mens league every night. We have a 9 division, 50 team mens league here. What can I tell you? I sell what my customers want.
