DLIGHTNING 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 I ran into this situation last night in my game. The game was over and 2 guys were dancing, this little mouth piece from the other team was yapping at our guy while he was fighting, I went right over to him and got in his face yet didn't bother to drop the mitts. I can't be bothered to get suspended for 2 games over a waste of space as this guy ?Am I a loser cuz I didn't scrap ? He was about 5'9 160Lbs and I am 5'11 190Lbs , I would have destroyed him. Guys on my team felt I could have dropped him with 1 punch .

LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 Yeah, but showing up to work with bruises on your face or hands makes people wonder if you're in a fight club.IMO, someone yapping at another player isn't enough reason for me to get in a fight about it. But that's just me.
mack 44 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 I'm with Lego, but with an asterisk. If it crosses into something really personal then someone's getting dummied. I've come into work or school looking like Narrator before but shit happens. "I cut myself shaving. A lot."

If it's not worth the 2 game suspension to you, then it's not worth going over and being all talk too.
SR27 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 Last time I fought was when I got kicked to the head while beeing down after a hit. Other times I fought was when one of my teammates got a slapper to the back well after the whistle while we were changing lines....I just happened to be the closest to that sucker so I thought I´d give it a go. That´s the situations I lose "control". As long as it´s verbal I don´t really care....I usually got a good response to all the thrash talk that´s thrown my way. sweetblazer 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 I play midget AAA and there are quite a few fights. They usually just start with either someone getting run over and someone comes in to stick up for them, or theres an extra shot after the whistle guy hits him back, gets hit back, then they usually go....i think not fighting was a good idea in tht situation, one fight tends to turn into 3 or 4 in our league then u get a short bench. Rebels Ice hockey 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 I'm the youngest person in the entire beer league that i play in (17 years old). I get alot of crap from the old guys. I also happen to be one of the biggest people in the league, so alot of people assume I'm going to be a hot head and get a bunch of retaliation penalties. To this day I havent dropped them once. To me its pretty pointless in a mens league, the whole point is to have fun. After all, the root word in beer league is beer.
stock07 1 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 Unless your getting paid or trying out for a team to get paid...Whats the point?...I can understand in Juniors how fights could be worthwhile but again your working towards a college team or a pro team there....But then again some people just like to fight for the sake of fighting....In beer leagues its worthless, it ends up costing you more in the long run by lost ice time from missing games that YOU paid for!!! If your that set on fighting take it up behind the rink or in the street...LOL
stevoc 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 You're the bigger man for walking away. Remember, someone talking trash to others is usually trying make themselves look/feel better about themselves. Sounds like he had some self image issues. (of course, I am no Dr. Phil :P )
hip check 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 If you feel someone is a little out of control, it's a good reminder to them. I played Sr. A up until a couple of years ago, and there were plenty of fights, probably one or two a game. If someone get their stick up, yaps too much, hits from behind or gets in a cheap shot or two - it would be fully understandable for them to get in a dust-up. Usually, the guys on the other team understand - even ask why we let the guy go for that long.edit - for Beer League yapping, give them the Dr. Phil "your emotions are controlling you" comment and skate away. They aren't worth the hassle or suspension.
Deathmoves 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 It all depends on loads of things for me, If we winning or losing. If the game is *HEATED*If its a rival teamIf the ref is Strict. It just depends,I have only had one fight tho, Quite recently. But all i got was 16PiM which were added to my stats! I didnt even go in the box for em :P ! But my coach got an 8 macth ban coz it was a bench clearence! The ref said its our mannagers fault coz he failed to control the bench. (Even tho there team jumped out the penalty box first!!)
driz86 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 if you really have to think about it like that then it's probably a bad idea. Fighting should be passionate and spontaneous, like being with a woman. also, you'd look like a bully/pussy beating up on a little guy.p.s. I've heard the "we gotta go to work tomorrow" line a billion times and I think thats the old mans way of saying "i'm afraid to get beat up by a kid". just my opinion, hehe. althoma1 574 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 I think you were smart not to fight and get booted for 2 games. However, if this guy is constantly shooting his mouth off and there's an opportunity to hit him HARD with a good shoulder next game you can consider taking it. Nothing really dirty like a spear or elbow or anything, but just a good hard clean body check. I realize most adult leagues are not contact and you'll get a penalty for this, but it shouldn't be much more than a minor penalty...hell sometimes you can even make it like you lost control ;). Or you can just ignore it and play the game which is probably best...I rarely take penalties or get in fights, but if someone is really getting on my nerves, hooking, slashing, cross checking and mouthing off I'll look for a good hit from time to time - you can effectively send a message that way without getting a major suspension.
