devilsrule711 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Are the bauer 8000 helmets provide better protection from concussions than the 5000 On my high school team a bunch have guys have had numerous concussions and we all have 5000 helmets(coach rule) is the 8000 worth it? jimmy 194 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I think it's just a coincidence. The B5000 is a great helmet. Certified, just like the rest of them. It's not the helmet. Going to a 8000 will get you no improvement.

I have to wear an 0004 for high school and anytime I get hit in the head it hurts alot more then my 8000 that I wear for travel. Why is it that I wear a large 8000, and it perfect size, then I put on my large 0004 and its huge?

chippa13 1844 Report post Posted January 25, 2006 More concussions are caused by the banging of back teeth together from a powerful hit to the body than outright hits to the head in hockey. A good, proper fitting mouthpiece can help greatly.

I think the benefit of the 8000 is the extra adjustments. I believe that the idea is that by providing a better fit, the helmet provides better protection. Personally I used a 4000 when I played high school hockey and never had a problem.
