In the NHL and special events (WCH, Olympics ect.) which would you rather see be participating? Me personally I think the young guys should play to improve there skills and maturity

i think the olympics should be the best of the best from each country, regardless of age.

Best of the Best, yes but where is the TEAM???

I believe a team that plays together every day can beat a bunch of NHLers thrown together.

The US learned this in basketball in the summer games.

Not to mention the NHL when the soviets beat them in 1980.

That is what the US is trying to do with thier national team developmental program. Making it easier for the players to mesh in the world juniors, olympics, and world championships after they graduate the "program"

I'm not going to debate anyone about this years US juinor team though.

and I agree, that it should be the best TEAM that they can SELECT... not necisarily a team that plays together in season though.

what are you gonna do for a team then? have a group of 25 guys play together for 4 years so they can compete in the olympics? its pretty unrealistic to have a lot of high profile athletes (in hockey) being able to play as a team and train together for the olympics. most guys nowadays have played with one another, so gelling together isn't so hard as olden days, especially when players from the same team play together, like st louis, richards, and lecalvier.

u mean like there could be a 14 year old and a 44 year old if they are both good?

there has been 16 year olds there, haven't there? lets not get out of hand, saying 7 year olds and 50 year olds. you know what i mean by best of the best, within certain parameters.

Pretty much what the Russians did back in the Soviet day's...

During the lockout last year a select team of high-profile NHL stars toured around Europe to play some of the best European teams, from Sweden, Switzerland and Russia.

They were around .500 and got their asses kicked in a coulpe of them. But to be fair, they weren't in top-shape and alot of the Euro teams were very focused on beating them.

True. I'll agree that it is pretty unrealistic in a capitalistic society.

Lets see a chance to win a gold metal every four years or 2.5 million a year??? Hard choice when you are 20 years old.

The USSR pretty much had a pro team but they were communist and really didn't have choices.

What team are you talking about?

All the high profile players were on actual teams. Kovachuk, Kovalev, Lecalvier, Jagr, Foresburg, Nasuland, Thorton, Nash. They played on Kazan, Omgst, Modo, and Davos.

they had an nhl allstars team that toured europe and played local city teams. it was pretty much a team for nhlers that had no wheres to play, and could stay in shape.
