Diffrent Tints on Visors

Recommended Posts

Which sucks, because they look like exactly the visor I've always wanted. With this honker, I need something that stretches out a little further and those look like the ticket. I've settled for the Oakley modified and been happy with it.

I have had pink and smoked 1Xcel visors. The pink makes everything clearer and the smoked reduced the glare.

Know where to get the Pink 1Xcel ones JR? Ive never seen pink before.

I never used one  before, but from past jobs working in a factory where safety glasses were required. I wore yellow tinted ones. It brighten everything up making it easier to see. I would assume that it does the same on the ice.

i use yellow for cycling in the early morning, fog, cloudy days or whatever... they work soo well...

Most tinted/coloured visors will be illegal to wear in the next few seasons across the world, i seem to hear.

They're already not legal in any league that requires a certified visor. That doesn't leave many other leagues.

The reason yellow/amber visors work is because the visor blocks out a lot of the blue portion of the light. Blue light, due to its wavelength (on the "short" end of the spectrum), makes up most of the "visual noise" you see, so blocking it makes the picture you see sharper/more in focus.

Bausch & Lomb and Nike are collaborating on tinted contact lenses called MaxSight that have the same effect. The amber ones apparently make your eyes look kind of demonically blood red. :D Unfortunately they're currently only intended for use in outdoor sports; they apparently don't work as well indoors.

Marty Turco was wearing a pair a couple of games ago. He wasn't playing, he was on the bench. Just testing to see how they would work inside, and yes they dogive you demonic looking eyes.

if you are wearing a tinted visor, and you get knocked out or something, the doctor wouldnt be able to see your eyes, so they wouldnt know what is wrong.

Referees and medical personnel are taught to NEVER remove a helmet until you know the severity of an injury. If it's a head or neck injury, you can make things much worse by doing that.

Everybody calm down. I was just joking because I don't even wear a colored visor and don't think it would make a lick of difference my opinion.

Is the NHL doing this?

And I have had 1st responder and all that good training and they can't keep the helmet on either...You would have to take it off to do CPR.

Wouldn't the blue visors reflect the blue light in the spectrum, not the yellow ones? Your explanation of "visual noise" makes sense, but it's the blue visors that are intended to improve clarity. The yellow ones improve brigthness and reduce glare.

Never quite understtod the better contrast argument what better contrast is there than black on white?

You've got a pretty good argument here. :D

Actually (I work as a low-vision specialist for a school district) the very best contrast comes from yellow and black. Often times when persons have trouble with reading black print on white paper, a yellow tinted acetate overlay helps increase the contrast. For most people black on white is good enough, however, the yellow should help the black puck stand out even more. I agree with many though that those yellow visors are fugly.
