Your Injuries

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, I was doing some skate practice and all of a sudden, due to a wierd patch in the ice and a fresh skate sharpening, found my self landing on the ice with my left leg bent below the knee at a 45 degree angle. I quickly shoved my leg back into place and checked for full leg movement before watching my knee area swell up like a balloon and the pain hit me like a ton of bricks.

It was embarrasing to be stretchered off the ice and taken to the hospital. The doctors dont think its a full-on tear but I have to get an MRI to see the extent of damage.

Have any of you torn ligaments?

What injuries have you guys sustained?

Fortunately, not in a league. Just getting back into skating. I wasn't even doing anything stupid or careless, which is the real bitcher.

Just bad luck.

Your counting bruises and sprains, thats just not fair. Your not playing hard enough if your not bruised up.

Chasing the puck towards the end boards at full speed (trying to get the icing call,) I touched the puck, and turned really hard to the right to avoid crashing into the boards. My left skate blade got caught in a gap between the ice and the bottom of the boards. My body continued turning but my foot did not. Snap! Broken ankle.

I also have suffered a knee on crotch collision so hard it broke my cup into four pieces...

This year all i had was a sprained thumb, doesnt sound like much, but swelled up like a bitch, and couldnt move for a week or two. Other than that i have had a injury free career for the most part.

Picture this, Tournement semi-final game, I skate out to blue line to beat a guy to the puck. As I'm clearing it out of the zone and have my leg extended, my defenseman who is diving to get back in the play lands right on my extended leg. Injury, 1/2 tear of ACL and complete MCL. . Played 40 yrs of hockey proir to this without any major injuries. I now wear $1000 Donjoy braces

2 concussions (1 2nd degree in lacrosse), the levels of my hips are uneven as a result of a hit, throwing off a few things. Pulled my groin a few times, pulled both my hip flexors. Nothing too major

Then there are all the things that happen day to day, I'm like a walking pane of glass most of the time. I just get the most random minor things that some how always end up hurting like a bitch. It was the same with my dad when he was a kid too, so I guess it runs in the family.

Badly bruised tailbone (had to sit in an inlflatable donut first weeks of first semester of college....not a great way to get the chicks)

Broken ankle

Broken nose

Broken thumb

Dislocated shoulder

No major knee injuries but they hurt like hell every second of the day

The two nastiest (and costliest even after insurance paid 80%) ones came in the past 2 years.

July 04': High stick caused 15 stitches on lip, my 4 bottom front teeth to fold back, and broke my jaw.

August 05': High stick tore all the way through my nostril. ER doc swore that Dermabond would secure it without any scarring. Now I have a 3 inch long deep scar on the side of my nose. Contrary to popular belief, chicks do NOT dig scars....especially facial ones.

Where to start?

-Broken both color bones

-Broken all my fingers in right hand, 3 in my left

-Spraigned Neck (twice)

-2 Front teeth knocked out

-Damaged retina (eye)

-3 Concussions

-2 Cracked Ribs

-Last year i tore my 'pubic ligament!'

All good battle scars from the corners!

My god, and I thought I was hurting where I fell on my side the last couple game and can barely get up out of bed. Some of you guys should be careful! You have to ask yourself if you're not getting paid for this is it worth being in constant pain for the rest of your life?

Alright, the sprained ankle and wrist haven;t kept me out of games, but the knee injuries have, same with the pulled groin and hamstring.

To answer your question analog, of course it is to me. I love hockey that much :)
