Thinking about making the switch from Easton 95 Cyclone to a tapered shaft... as i have heard it improves consistency of shot and power.

looking at inserting a wood r2 modified Tkachuk

any opinion of which is a good or bad choice appreciated.

Are those your only options?

I'm a fan of the R2 Xn10 and the Salming OPS has been good so I believe the shaft should be decent as well.

I agree with Eazy, could have been a few more options here. Of these, I like the L2 over the Synthesis (haven't tried the others), but I like my Inno Novius most of all. Also, I have high hopes for my Salming TF10, which should arrive later this week.

I couldn't agree more. I actually prefer the feel of the Salming but I'm still not used to the curve.

I've got last years Synthesis and this years Synthesis or the Synergy II.

The shafts are great. I play twice a week and coach so I get alot out of my sticks and let me tell you. I haven't broken a shaft yet. The blades are excellent as well. I usually get around a season or so on one. Easton makes a great tapered combo.

Jrgrez, Whats the difference(shafts) between the two apart from paint job?

Chad and Eazy, is the Salming shaft (which one) similar to the R2xn10, or totally different? If it similar, how?

I'm using the Evolution OPS. Performance is similar, if not better than my Xn10, but if stops about there.

Salmings rounded, Xn10's concave. Slight grip on the Salming (its like a smooth coating), Xn10's like glass. Salming feels solid, Xn10 feels like ceramic. Salming is heavier, but not heavy. With my Xn10 the puck seems to overpower the stick, but the Salming doesn't seem to do it. It's like I know where it is, but I am not powering the puck everywhere. Results for me have been relatively the same, but the Salming feels like solid, where the Xn10 feels fragile and heavier.

I've had my R2 shaft for well over a year now and so far it's working fine. It's been hacked on, skated on, stepped on, and got caught on the boards. And its performance has remained the same.

Bauer vapor vapor xv. has lasted me longer than any other shaft, going on two seasons this summer. And i play 4 or 5 times a week a tier 3 semi pro team and an under 19s team (UK).

I've alot of different tapered shafts except Reebok/CCM stuff and Salming. I liked the Flyweight the best overall. I just got an L2 and I find it pretty similar. I really thought I'd like the R2XN10. I loved it's weightlessness feel when I wasn't in possession of the ball/puck but I felt that I had to power myself into the puck more b/c like Eazy said the puck seems to overpower the stick, I find that the same for ball hockey. I also don't like the ceramic feel. A wood blade never helped either. I liked everything about the XV except the feel, It didn't seem to make a smooth connection from puck to hand. Synthesis - tried both..one word(garbage)I liked the performance of the Inno but never a real fan of their weight so I didn't use it too long. Here's my list in order(personal pref)

1.Flyweight/L2-jury's still out but very comparable in 3 games use.

2.R2XN10

3.XV

4.Inno 1100

5.Synthesis

Had good durability with all. except for the XV grip peeling extremely quick.

I've had the L2 for a couple of months now. its really lite and makes every other stick I use feel like it's made out of lead. only complaint is my own fault wish I got a 100 flex instead of the 85..

i am a fan of the rbk 6k shaft i find rbk products have great feel and a nice grip...i just wish the grip lasted a little longer. i like the l-2 as well and found that to have great feel to it as well, the only problem is that mission doesnt make those with grip. i also wish that i had gotten a 100 rather than an 85, but grip is the biggest thing this shaft is missing.

Sherwood taper takes standard blades

I have a sherwood momentum taper shaft and it takes tapered blades not standard. I really like this shaft. If you can find one I suggest getting it. Its extremely light, and durable.

i recommand the r2xn10 or the L-2 both were excellent shaft, but both doesn't come with GRIP and 95 is too stiff for me, so I have no choice to try the XV, would really like to try it!

EAZY-How much cost your Salming? Do they come in 85 flex?

I only have one tapered shaft,a synthesis.I wasn't that impressed with it and haven't used it much.I figured that all the tapered shafts were the same,so I didn't buy another brand.Recently I've heard rumblings that the synthesis is the worst performing of the lot of tapereds. Is this true ? if it is,I'll give these shafts another try

Thanks

Mine is an OPS and I got it for cheap because the guy from Salming Canada was closing it out. Talk to Salming (the user) and he'll put you in contact with the right people.
