Anyone remember Z-Cores?

Recommended Posts

Someone gave me one a long time ago and I never found it in stores. What exactly were they in terms of performance? Price? I remember seeing one on the website in a blue color, but then it was gone. Mine was orange.

One of the most durable shafts around and of course sacrificed weight to do so. Great shaft that shouldn't be gone, but seeing how people whine here over weight I can see why it's obsolete. As for price, I see them go for ~$50-$70 on eBay when they do pop up. Sounds like you had the 7100 model.

Handzus used a dark blueish Z-Core with a wooden Easton blade all 03-04 season, then went with the UL Grip in 05-06.

I used to use the Z-core, had both the blue and the red model (110 and 100 flexes). They were incredible shafts, and should not have been discontinued. They probably could have found ways of making them lighter, if they tried.

I always loved the way those shafts played. I eneded up giving htem away to teammates when i started using a zbubble and an UL. Wish i hadn't sometimes, but oh well. And yes, they were absolute tanks......

This is me violating a dead horse, but they peaked at the A/C line. Z-Cores were way better than the A/G lines as well.

I really liked my A/G 6000 shaft. I had the first generation blue model and it held up great and was one of the lighter shafts on the market at that time, with the exception of the few full composite shafts.

They were some of the smaller shafts if I remember correctly, too. I actually liked the 7000 with the 105 flex.

I still have my a/g 7000 but the wood blade that is in it has become stuck, the aluminum at the tip has deformed so I can't pull it out anymore. It is an okay shaft, not too heavy and a nice flex to it. a little too small of a circumference for my liking though.

Mack, they were wrapped like the classic UL, 6000 as JR said. Best shafts ever created.

Ugh, I hated those. I tried too and both of them had the aluminum become loose.

I loved them for my kid because they would last all season long! You really had to crack the aluminum for one to break, and that was pretty hard. Of course, they shot like they were made of stone, but it saved me a pile of $.

Like all hockey equipment, one day they just stopped making them! No announcement, no explanation. I guess they figured that making a durable stick was not such a good idea for the corporate finances!

I had 5 of them at one point. 105 flex. I used to shoot cannons with that thing...unfortunately my shoulders gave out and I use whippier sticks now.

That was one of my favorite shafts! Eventually I guess I switched blades too often or whatnot, because the aluminum tip actually cracked and split.

I thought the feel wasn't too bad for it's day.

They were so cool, the 6000 was brown and 100 flex, 7000 black and red was 105 and the 7100 was blue and black with 110 flex, I remember they were all the rage in the AHL, probaly because of durability and I saved my lunch money when I was in middle school so I could buy one, it was a great stick, but was really stiff for me back in the day, I wish they had made them in 85 flex, they were really great sticks.
