NBH ONE90 Initial Thoughts

I don't know why everyone keeps on asking me this.  Does it matter if I said $700?  Does it matter if I paid $0?

Yes, if you paid $0, your review might be biased as compared to if you had your own money on the line. You have to agree, don't you?

I believe that I have noted if the items were donated in any of my reviews. I will have to check and make sure. I can only speak for myself but I have never given undue praise on any product that was either free or reduced cost, I'm sure others have acted in a similar fashion.

No, it doesn't matter, but some people are just curious. My opinion, I don't really care what you paid, but even so, it's interesting just to hear what you paid or even just what the damage to a regular old joe like myself would be.

I thought I read somewhere that the ONE90's fit like the 8090s and not like the Vapor series. Is that correct?

It's generally $100-$150 above the cost of the skate.

From what I was told at the show, they aren't as wide as an 8090 but they are wider than a Vapor.

i think the point of asking the price is for those who are possibly thinking of ordering a skate (skate of choice) so that they too can skate in something that will be 1. there own and 2. as close to flawless comfort as possible. I would be interested in custom skates and how much they would cost me, before i started shpping out my traced foot patterns.

The price has been mentioned so many times on here though. What he implied was a totally different situation.

i see that. I am not concerned with price because it should be understood that "custom" means higher pricing (for anything). I think some get the wrong idea and they just want the next new thing that comes out, espcially if it is reviewed and liked by yourself JR. For instance the carbon fiber t-blades post....

p.s. will be stopping by the shop soon to have a look at the ccm's, havent forgot.

Actually the trace is done sitting down.

Interesting. Something a little different. JR, do you know if they'll take a plaster cast of both feet? Basically, will they accept this instead of the template? This way, we can get a next to perfect skate for our individual feet.

TIA,

Kas

if I may milk a little more info, which companies do offer custom programs, and is it strictly ice boots. If so, can't you get the boot and holder shipped unmounted for those of us who are inline inclined and would just as soon use brand new holders as trade for labor of mounting.

I know a player with the One90s and he is having a hell of a time switching from his Vapor XXX's. He just can't get used to them and they are killing his feet. When I picked them up, they definitely had a different feel to them than any other skate I've evr felt before.

i've seen a couple of pros drop them already, kike Iggy and Yokinen... skates is a preference thing, these are just over hyped if you ask me, nothing like when vapors or vectors came out....

Yes. Your best bet is to go to a NBH First Line Dealer. You can find that info on the site.

Is there any way to get such form without having to go to a dealer? Since there aren't any in The Netherlands

Everyone here is feeding the hype. We will all become victims of unrealistic expectations that we have of this skate. The skate, whether it is 9K Pump, 10.0 Vector, 1500 Synergy, 110 XP, or One90, will or will not fit each player's foot. Just because I don't like the fit of Brand X or Iggy takes off Brand Y doesn't really mean a hill of beans if Brand Y works for Sakic but not Brand X. When you are buying any top end skate, the differences between product and performance will become less. The differences will be FIT. That is the reason to buy the top end product to begin with. I will tell you right now: Some of you will love One90 and some of you will hate One90. Does that make either of you right or wrong? Uh, no. It is individual player preference with the equipment we each wear.

I think saying the ONE90's are overhyped is an uninformed response about this skate. With the exception to those who have actually worn the skate, there's no way one can ligitimately say it's overhyped. It is a brand new item coming out and NBH wants to get exposure to it.

Not like Warrior where all they've done is change a name and release the same product that was previously available, that's overhyped

I have been talking to NBH about this skate for a year now. When it came time for me to get the skate, they asked me what I wanted. I told them my problems and they agreed to make me a skate. When I tested 8090, I said that I liked the skate, but the problems I had with it was lace bite and height. That was the paragraph I wrote on the last page of the field tester's evaluation book. Guess what they did to ONE90? A beefier tongue and the lowest skate height in Bauer's history.

Bob, I am insulted. A lot of manufacturers have sent me product to test and I have tested it to the best of my ability and tried to stay as unbiased as I can and rate the equipment for what it is. By you implying that they are trying to butter me up by giving me freebies is a personal attack on me and my reputation.

By making a comment like the one you just did totally goes against what this site is all about. We've praised products that went against the mainstream and we've slammed products. Just ask Easton about the SyNthesis.

Whoa. Didn't mean to insult you, or your reputation. If I did, I'm sorry. It's just a fact that biases can come out in evaluations even when no "intent" is there. It doesn't mean you are doing anything "evil", just that it does happen, especialy with free-bees. Not just in this industry, for everything. There are many different biases in test and evaluation, self fulfilling prophecy is one of them as well.

May be a stupid question but why do they trace sitting down? Don't you skate standing up. I would think it would be better standing due to you foot spreading when weight is applied.

JR,

Did the customs come with drainage holes drilled? If not, is there anything about the construction of the boot that would prevent one from drilling such holes?

I'm not sure if this qualifies as hype or not? I recently spent a few hours with the University of Maine equipment guy. There are 4 guys skating on them now and he told me 90% of the team has already ordered them for next year. He claims that they are incredibly durable. He himself has been a faithful Graf (703)guy his entie life and he is making the switch as well. One thing that is odd, of the 4 that are using them now 3 are using the traditional LS2 (white) holder.

Possible issue with getting new steel.

Or nicely leading into my question, it may have to do with sharpening? JR, have you yourself sharpened the new longer steel, was it easy to do and adjust, finally are you gonna stick to your regular grind?
