Bought the Salming Pants on eBay

Recommended Posts

Sorry for yet ANOTHER pants thread:

After all the great things I heard in response to my last post asking what kind of pants to buy (http://www.modsquadhockey.com/index.php?showtopic=18360&hl=pants) I went ahead and bought the highly recommended Salming Protector Lite on eBay.

That was February 23 and it's now March 23, and no pants. I contacted the seller, and he quickly provided me with a Canada Post Expedited Delivery confirmation number (different from a tracking number in that it only shows when the item was recieved for shipping, and when it's delivered) that shows he shipped them on Monday Feb. 27 from Toronto area. No fault of the seller, obviously, but I'm wondering if Canada Post often has trouble shipping internationally-- I should say that I'm in west central New Hampshire. I've ordered other hockey equipment on eBay from Canada, Montreal, specifically, and gotten it within a week and a half.

So I'm kinda freakin out here since I actually really need the pants as my 1 year old CCM 652s are getting worse by the day, falling apart like all the other ones I've seen. I'm thinking about either trying to go the budget route again and checking out the pro level Sherwoods that East West hockey has for $79, or really going for what my heart desires and checking out a pair of Tackla 5000x... so, any advice? I know people love the Tacklas, but does anyone know anything about those Sherwoods? Should I give Canada post more time?

Well lemme know how those pants go for you if you get them...i'm interested in them.

But yeah, Canada Post...dunno cause I nvr had anything shipped like that but I was on eBay and saw that the estimated shipping on a stick to the USA was a month to six weeks...dunno if that's true but that's what I saw. If you got the confirmation number I'd watch it a few more days, and nothing happens see if you can contact Canada Post about it.

Have you tried contacting Canada Post? I bought one of the TF10 shafts from the same seller, and it arrived within a week (I'm in Minnesota) - so if your pants haven't arrived yet, I would imagine that something is wrong.

I bought a pair of those Sher-Wood PMPX 10 pants from East-West and they are very nice. Like they note on the site, they are the CCM 1152 Pro Pant with Sher-Wood logos. I think they're a steal for the price, especially since shipping was only about $6.00 to MN. Good luck - I hope Canada Post comes through for you.

I've sent stuff to Canada from the States and had stuff sent to me, it's really been hit or miss on how long it takes to get to it's destination. Sometimes 3-4 days, sometimes 3-4 weeks.

Thanks everybody! I did try contacting canada post, by email actually, and their website says it takes a minimum of 3 days to respond to inquiries. Oh well, more waiting...

sc37-- I'll definitely post some kind of a review if and when I get them. Interesting about the 4-6 wk shipping on the stick that you saw, in a way that makes me feel better about the lonng wait I'm experiencing.

oberon-- do the Sherwoods have the USCellular logo on them as in the pic on East West's site? I don't think I'd mind that-- it's a heck of a lot better than the ridiculous piping CCM puts on their retail x52 and x92 series pants. Have you had any trouble with the belts? I've heard a lot of people complain about the stitching going on those and the belts simply pop off. I wonder if CCM actually manufactured those for Sherwood? I was pretty let down by the way my 652s blew out in under a year-- bad stitching-- I've seen many other 652/852 owners with the same problem.

I may end up checking out those Sherwoods anyway, you can't go wrong with a pro-level pant for 80 + shipping

I just had a similar situation, but my package was only delayed one week. Call this number 1 416 979-8822, it will get you to customer service at Canada post, and the person I talked to was very helpfull. Just have your tracking number handy when calling.

go to usps.com and use the tracking # there. It usually transfers there once the package gets in the states. If that doesnt work then its still in customs most likely.

I had very good luck with a stick that came through Canada Post recently but was told likely 10-22 business days for it to arrive...just depends on how long it takes to get through customs etc..

Canada post is terrible compared to USPS. If you're in the US, you should have purchased them from Jason (salmingUSA) to avoid those problems.

Actually, that wouldn't help.

When Mark placed his initial order, I suggested to him that he order products that I didn't have in stock, so we could share between each other. After buying all the skates and gloves that I did at the start, I couldn't afford the production quantity on the pants, so that was one of the main products that Mark bought.

In other words, I sometimes have some in stock, but for those times I haven't, Mark has shipped them for me.

No, they don't have the USCellular logo - I asked EW the same thing. There are some pretty obnoxious Sher-Wood 'X' logos, but they are rubber patches that are just lightly sewn on - no glue - and come off easily without marring the pants. I can't speak to the durability of the belts or the pants (I've only had them a week), but they seem very well constructed.

Just about every Canada Post package I ever got took about 1 month or more. I think the sled dogs needed a rest somewhere near Toronto. After that the snow was melted so the mules had to take over. Well, you know how mules can be.

Just curious; Why dosent MIKAEL SAMUELSSON wear all the Salming stuff? He plays the stick but not Gloves and Pants.

Partly preference, partly team decision

I tried the USPS trick WHBD18 mentioned (putting the CPS # in USPS track and confirm) and nothing came up. So I guess the stick is still in customs.

Jeez, what do they think? MissConduct is shipping me a stick with cocaine shoved down the shaft? It's been there for over a week.

wouldnt salming have to pay a fee, maybe they dont think its worth it?

Logos would have to be covered or removed. Samuelsson's sticks are blacked out now, unlike earlier in the season. Tonight they did mention that he was the only one in the NHL using the Borje Salming stick.

i had a similar problem from sending from canada to the usa, but it did magically show up 3 weeks after i sent it.

after 30 days you can launch an investigation to see what happend.

did the tracking # start with CX... ? it probably was insured if it was.

I bought those pants from Mark on eBay. Paid via Paypal on 2/27, and they were received by my local PO around 3/14.

Shipping time was fine, but the packaging was a little disappointing. It was double-bagged--NO box. First layer was a clear plastic bag, and the outer layer was just a black trash bag. There were several tears in the outer layer. There were a couple of small areas where both layers of plastic were torn and the pants were a little exposed. Further, it was pretty flat--like it had been under something heavy for quite a long time. Luckily, there was no real damage. I think the plastic supports in some areas may need to be re-formed. For example, the hip pads are a little out of wack--i.e. on the left side, there is a deeper curve towards the back side of my left hip; on the right side, the deeper curve is towards the front side of my right hip. The normal break-in process will probably take care of that, so I'm not too worried.

The pants are definitely high quality. The one thing that is somewhat surprising (but doesn't bother me the least bit) is that the logo on the thigh is not embroidered like most pants at this level. (Silk-screened?) The only reason I brought that up is that it may be misleading to those who are not familiar with Salming products--i.e. at first glance, they might mistakenly think it is a lower-level product and not give it the chance it deserves. That would be a gosh darn shame.

Don't know when I'll put them in play yet as my current pair still have some life left in them.

I got a pair after reading all the reviews. Super value for the money. Great padding all around, plastic inserts in thighs, tailbone, hips, and slightly around the gluts. Fabric looks very durable and there are mesh areas which add to the comfort cause it bends easily and breathes. There are also built in zippers and double waist belt. For me it fits tight almost like a girdle.

IMO, it is comparable to many high end pants.

I recently got a pair off of eBay and they are very protective... took a bit getting used to them after using my Bauer 6000 pants for 2 months... I use the Salmings when playing against chippy teams for the extra protection.
