JR Boucicaut

adidas/NBA deal

Dalhousie has Adidas jerseys too

They are freaking nice too. The old style ones in yellow the ones that they wore this year were freaking awesome. Our's in Moncton has a new and nicer logo but the St-Louis Blues is a bit out of date, Moncton has them, Lakehead too and so on and so on.

But I wouldn't mind for Adidas to maybe get in the market and maybe do some away jerseys.

Chadd - Have you heard if they releasing a new adidas line or changing RBK items to adidas?

Nothing is happening. That's the word I got from THC. But then again, nothing is impossible. (lol I just had to)

Plans change all the time. I haven't heard anything in a while, so it's not surprising as they haven't invested any real money in it yet.

haha I like it JR.

It would be a pain to have everything rebranded with adidas so soon, but I think they would want to get the NFL sewn up first. Furthermore I think they'll leave some reebok stuff out there, they won't want to just make it disappear too quickly, so I think we'll see RBK on the jerseys and equipment for a little while longer.

But seeing a Adidas in the NHL won't surprise me. They've made skates before, and are obviously in the apparel game. With knowledge taken from the THC, and from other adidas arms like Salomon they know how to make composite goods, and decent R+D to make top products. Also I can see the 3 stripes everywhere, down pants, around the sticks...but not for a while.

Edit: did a bit more research and turns out Adidias have already off-loaded Salomon business segment (alomon, Mavic, Bonfire, Arc'Teryx and Cliché) to Amer Sports corporation.

If adidas comes out and take over the reebok line, I will so not gonna support them. You have to draw a line somewhere, hockey was a sport for CCM, Bauer, KOHO, JOFA, Mission etc then Nike and Reebok came in then now adidas??? WTF MAN !!!!

here's the thing though, THC for a long time was CCM, Koho, Jofa and Titan. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it pans out to CCM, RBK (old Jofa lines) and Adidas (old Koho lines)

As JR says, anything is possible. I do think carrying 3 protective brand lines under one company is a lot to take on from many angles. For the company, it just multiplies everything by 3: R & D, marketing, production, sku, etc. For the LHS buyer, it makes it easier to cut out one of the three rather than buy from all 3 lines under one company. Whatever Adidas decides to do, it will have to be innovative in the marketplace in order to succeed. The key now is new ideas and products in the marketplace that expand protection and thinking at the same time!

but will they make good products? i doubt it. They will be like nike, screwing up bauer, making stuff that are not durable and over-hyped marketing. Think Vapor XX and the disappointment. One90? get ready for round 2.

But on the other hand Nike have come in with different input and pushed things a little. For sure there have been some durability issues with the XXXlite and a couple other lines, but they have made improvements. DriFit in protection, lighter more comfortable protection for example.

Maybe all the companies ought to make tanks that last for ages, there'll be moaning about performance.

But personally I don't think that new thinking and innovation is a bad thing, only the fact that 'hockey' brands gets squeezed out. But it's been like that for ages otherwise i'd still be using Torspo's and Daoust.
