O Canada at a Sabres Game?

Recommended Posts

The last game I went to in Buffalo was versus Montreal, but tonight before the Carolina game they did both anthems...do they always do that because of how many fans they pull from Southern Ontario?

They also had kids skate out with the flags of every country represented on the Sabres roster (I assume). Nice touch.

Really? I always joke with my buddy when we're having a beer in the pub prior to game about it being a one or two anthem game.

"Drink up, it's only a one anthem game tonight."

"We still have time, it's a two anthem game tonight."

Given their proximity to the Canadian border..it would just make good business sense for Buffalo to play both anthems at every game....

Yes, Buffalo has always done both anthems at the games for the canadian fans that come over. I can remember going to a game when I was a kid and hearing it. Just respectful and it's nice, most people sing both and clap just as hard.

Anybody remember Roger Doucet at the Forum in Montreal? That man could sing O Canada!

With parts in French and English, too.

Was that the huge fat guy?

I don't think he was that tall or fat... He had longer, straight silver hair and wore a tux.

I think it's funny that 2 teams will square off and they will play the American anthem when Americans are a hopeless minority on both rosters. I'm not complaining, just funny.

And I don't advocate playing the Canadian when it's not necessary, even though I'm very patriotic. Cause then would they have to play the Finnish national anthem when the Red Wings played? Or the Swedish when Dallas played? Yeah political correctness sucks.

They started the tradition in WW2, and it's relevant now (to me at least, don't wanr too offend anybody or get this topic locked down) because of the current war.

When Roger Doucet did the bi-lingual version of "O Canada", it helped to heal the rift that developed during the "Language War" in Quebec.

Other way around Dallas has all the Finns...Detroit has the Swedes.

they sing both anthems in buffalo because many season ticket holders are residents of Canada. So thats why they do it. CBC hockey night in canada expressed this early on in the playoffs
