Afinogenov's Stick

Recommended Posts

Anyone else been thinking he needs a lower the lie or a shorter stick? He's awesome to watch until the puck slips underneath the front half of his blade.

I personally think he should keep it. I love watching him mess up. He can get the puck into the zone, but can't finish. GO CANES!

:D

The rocker on his blade is unbelievable, I think thats his problem. There is like a cm of blade touching the ice.

Like Alexei Kovalev's blade? Kovy seems to take the shortness of his stick to his advantage, but Afinogenov's is so long it seems like a lot of rocker could be more difficult with a long shaft.

im sure a guy in the show knows what hes doin

Yeah, I agree with you. He's a helluva player, and he makes moves, but like Ebondo said and the announcers have said once each game I've watched of this series, he can't finish and it looks to me like he can't finish because he keeps losing the puck, even when he's got some room or he's gotten outside of somebody. I'm sure he's not oblivious to what we're noticing and probably has many more ways to tinker with it than we can think of. It's just frustrating to watch because he's so slick up to a point, and beyond that point he could do so much more.

I'm not going to be trying any way possible to get in touch with the Sabres equipment manager because I'm completely ignorant compared to the pros and their equipment guys. It's just been bothering me to watch him lose the puck (Gino Guyer did it a lot this year too) and I had to get it off my chest.

Afinaganov is such a typical euro.

I thought I had seen the last of these pearls of wisdom after you got banned on HFBoards.

Yeah, I'm curious to see if he'll keep skating in Vapor 10's next year or go to something else, one90 maybe. He skates well in a straight line, but his agility is what's special imo.

Nope. And don't worry, I'll be back there.

I love Afinogenov because he reminds me so much of how I used to be, everybody always talked about my skating, but word was I couldn't finish. I think he just needs to focus more on shooting and scoring than always going at top speed. Very few NHLers who are consistent goal scorers skate like this guy. But if he slowed down a little after going coast to coast, i think it'd be easier for him to score more, at least keep the puck on his stick.

it's his first playoff ever. playin for a bottom feeder like biffalo was tough for him all those years. Next year he'll be better. how old is he 26?

He has tons of potential and will never reach it by all indications

Mimics Bure like it's his job, but what he cannot do is imitate Bure's sense and finishing skills.

He is flashy and makes himself looks good a lot of times, but never really accomplishes much....Or at least as much as he has the potential of doing. Actually, at this stage I wouldn't even call it potential...Moreso wasted talent. Still obviously a great player, but there was a lot more there.

He's a poor man Bure. His feet are faster than his hands. Bure, as fast as he was skating-wise, had a lot quicker hands and could actually finish what he started. Afinagonev on the other hand is a scorer who can't score. A lot of fun to watch though and like was said before, he's got time.

I like John Davidson's nickname for him: Crazy-Legs Afinogenov. I thought it was fitting and funny for some reason.

It was downright dreadful watching him during these playoffs.

If he would've finished a couple of those chances, maybe Buffalo would've made it to the cup.

you can't knock a guy too much when he can stick handle in a phone both and had almost 70 points this year. This was his "break out " year. dont worry he is going to get better still.

Maybe

but if Berezin was able to finish, Afino is not like him since he can't finish ;) .

I still think that Afino is WAY better than Berezin. It's the same about the Kovalev topic, he might not put up Real big number, but he's damn more skilled than most player in the league.
