Fifa World Cup 2006 Germany

Can someone explain OT to me please? The Argentina/Mexico game was won in the 98th minute, and three cards were handed out between the 112 and 119th minutes. Thanks.

FIFA changed the rules...no more golden goal.

It is a 30 min extra time period in which goals can be scored, but the full 30 min has to be played.

No more Silver Goal either...Silver Goal was if a team scored in the first half of extra time, it would end after the half. FIFA has gone to a full 30 min extra time period.

Is it going to be like this in the final then? That's kind of stupid I think. It should be golden goal, rather than give the other team and opportunity to snipe.

i sitll dont get "Overtime" or whatever you would like to call it. i thought a soccer game was 90 minutes long, thats it. what is with these games going past 90 minutes where a new clock starts even though a team is down 3-1???

i just dont get it. could somebody please explain this?

What don't you get? Theirs two halves, each 45 minutes, with an unknowno amount of time added on at the end of each half.(Usually 2-5 minutes). If the game is still tied, they play 30 minutes, and whoever is winning after 30 minutes, wins the game. If still tied, it continues.

I'm German, but since I moved to the US 15 years ago I support US soccer wholehartedly. I'm rooting for US and England because they play exciting, daring soccer. I don't like the South American teams because of all the diving and dirty fouls. I don't like Germany because of their boringly efficient play, absolutley no flair or exitement. I also hope Mexico does well.

I have to revise my post from a while back. Germany under Klinsman is a treat to watch. This team has more flair and creativity than any other team I've seen in the Cup so far, including Brazil. England has been a huge dissapointment, and the US, well I don't even want to comment on their performance.

The Portugal-Netherlands game today was crazy..a total of 16 cards were handed out. It was just getting nasty - people just kicking/pushing/tripping everywhere and I think I actually saw a player give a titty twister:|

Also, love him or hate him, Beckham's goal on his free kick was amazing to give England the win.

Beckhams freekick was sweet!

Did anybody see that Croatia game where 1 player got 3 yellow cards? :D

How did he get 3 in one game?

I thought your second yellow was a red and you were out of the match?

It is, but the ref didnt know that the player had already been booked and let him play till the final minute then gave him another yellow and finally the red

Oh...I hope Bettman isn't watch World Cup...he'll have a 2 penalties and you're out rule next year.

The Portugal/Netherland game was insane. Figo should be gone for that headbutt...and I think there may be more suspensions coming. There is a girl at work getting married next Saturday and her family is Portugese....she was dreading them playing on her wedding day....guess when England/Portugal is?

I caught one of their first games and it was one of the more entertaining games that I've seen.

i personally think germany are looking well.

i think the hype england is getting from their home nation is getting to them.(not that every home nation is getting it) jus that in the english press its more or less saying 'your expected to win the cup' IMO

They will always say that though, thats why I hate the UK press because they are so 2 faced

Eg. In the rugby world cup a sportswriter wrote something like "England will never win the rugby worldcup in the next 2 decades" he also said he would bet his house on that(sorry i don't remember who said it though) and when we won the cup the papers were saying that they never doubted England and that England would have been the best in the world even if they didn't win the cup

But the hype in England is massive flags EVERYWHERE and those mini car flags are taking over

Much like Canada's expectation in a Best on Best hockey tournament...

you should be ashamed of your language, its dove. How do you figure he dove? Why would he? He would have been about 2 feet from the net with an open shot, yeah lemme dive and take a chance in not getting a penlaty kick. GO AZZURRI

But....the tug by the Aussie before he was in the box was more of a foul than the the one he did call....dive or not...the ref blew that call. If he had called the first foul there wouldn't have been a penalty kick.

Agreed, once the Italian player knew he was infront of the ref directly to where he could get the call, he dove. Bad call, I was pissed as I was pulling for the Socceroos. O'well I guess, you win some, you lose some and also it wasn't the best decision by Neil to go down when all he had to do was stick his foot out to direct the ball away or into the goalie so he could pick it up.

The Italians were diving all game long, they're the perfect example of why a lot of Americans have no respect at all for the sport. It was a terrible call, he gave them the game on a golden platter.
