I agree in a way with you because being an intelligent player is one of the most important thing in hockey but without skills and conditioning you won't go anywhere. So everyday when you go to bed, you should say to yourself hey I'm a better player than yesterday.

Neo5370 132 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 I don't know you personally but generally speaking the general public or even the those in the general public that have picked up a hockey stick have a better chance of winning the lottery. W/O buying a ticket :P

BK 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 so in short.. unless you have had a feature in the newspaper, have been playing your entire life and have had a couple espn articles on you as the "next whatever"... you have about an icecubes chance in hell.
Edge 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 Of course skill is needed and there is natural talent(look at those NHLers who started in their teens), but seriously hard work is the most important thing. IMO there is a turning point where a player really knows he wants it and starts working his ass off to get it, and results come. I don't care what anyone says, there are ridiculous politics in hockey, and you have to be on the right side of those politics to go anywhere.

Politics aren't nearly as important if you are the most talented person your town and not every one of those people make it to the NHL.

DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted June 23, 2006 Be prepared for the tryout that goes like this: Another player with as much intensity, skill, and desire as you says to you and himself; If I don't make this team, neither will you. If you don't understand what I'm saying, don't bother going to that tryout.

If you don't understand what I'm saying, don't bother going to that tryout. That's an amazing point. I ALWAYS go into a tryout saying I am better than the rest, sot to say it in a cocky way but actually think it, becasue I do, but I don't show it in the game, I never take the glory, if you knew me, you know I am telling the truth. Dstar, perfect words for my emotions...Always think think/say that in no matter what game your doing, you never know who is watching...
Neo5370 132 Report post Posted June 23, 2006 i think the skill, hard work and love for hockey, are the key things... Love for hockey? Brett Hull did it without loving hockey. A person doesn't necessarily always love what they have a god given talent for, though that's rare I'd say.
Pats 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2006 There are lots of players that do love the game but in all honesty some that just play because they are good and being a hockey player is a lot better than getting a real job.

willcarlson 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2006 Dont start playing hockey with the mind set of going pro. Your just setting yourself up for a big let down. If it happens wutever but you cant expect it. The odds of you making it starting that late are slim to none, but if you play just for the love of the game you will have no regrets. Just play and dont think about going pro and dont look back on it. i think you missed the point of the question.
