Pitches

Recommended Posts

For all you baseball players out there, that pitch/pitched.

This topic is mostly for learning how to throw breaking ball or off speed pitches, how do you hold the ball, Do you roll your wrist, as you do for a curve?..etc.

What I would like to know is what pitches you could/can throw and how u held/hold the ball/threw it.

I can throw a fastball, curve, knuckle (havent thrown it in a game yet..not confident), I can throw a palm change but it doesnt seem to be too off speed.

Thanks--Doug

CurveBall.jpg

when coming over the top my fingers are pointing at my ear and I use a motion like "flicking a lightswitch" as my coach would allways say.

Throw it like that except my middle and ring finger are more on the seem. like tips of fingers are on the seam.

I throw My curve ball like that, thanks for the circle change I'll try that. What is the pinky doing for the CC?

Fastball, cutter, slider, curve and circle change. Tried to add a splitter and hello arm troubles. I held my curve and slider the same, on the ")" seam. Just hold it tighter/closer to your palm for a curve and looser for a slider.

4 seam fastball, occasional 2 seam fastball, curve, slider, forkball. In my teens (ie eons ago), to help with the forkball, I used to go to sleep with the ball wedged in between my fingers in the forkball grip. Once I actually woke up an hour or two later and it was still in there. In any case, that really helped stretch the skin and improve my grip. In retrospect, a splitter might have been a more effective pitch because of the more similar speed relative to a fastball, but when my forkball was working it would just fall off the table completely. When it didn't work....look out.

I'm sad to see that no one throws the regular ole' straight change. It's like holding a fork ball, just with three fingers.

Curve/slider is about the same for me, as in that picture, just change the snapping motion. My curve is more snapping down, while the slider is more at an angle and I throw it a bit harder. I guess it's more of a slurve.

4 seam, Curve, Knuckle Curve, Circle Change, I have a good slider but rarely use it.

How hard can most of you guys throw and your age?

How do you throw your Knuckle Curve?

Well I am terrible at explaing how to throw pitches using words, but when I get my camera fixed soon I will take a picture of how I throw it.

i found a slider alot easier to throw than a curve. you throw a slider the same as a fast ball except you need to turn your wrist like throwing a football. i also threw a splitter as a change up. it was easy for me to do because my hand is large (i can hold 6 baseballs a once, i can also throw a splitter with a softball) i'll try to get pics ofthe softball. one fastball i threw was somthing i made up. i held the ball cross stich on only one seam. it would get away from me from time to time. but the one i threw often was a two seam.

I throw a 4 seamer that I can get mid-70's. Crappy ass curve ball. Change up. Confident Knuckleball. and a Splitter. However, I noticed if I throw a lot of splitters in a game, my arm gets tired a lot faster. Meh, its a 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, pitch for me. I'll never throw it unless I have one of those counts.
