KHABIBULIN to Detroit

Recommended Posts

Alright, this is a theory, I know I know, you were all excited, but this is speculaiton. The Hacks just signed Lalime. They are not in a situation where they need the wall plus a solid backup. They are nowhere near playoff position. Detroit needs a goalie. Detroit did jsut sign Osgood though, could he be part of the deal, will he be a backup in detroit?

i'm pretty sure i'd break down into tears of joy if i saw this fall through. only thing, i just don't want to think of who'd detroit would trade for him. hopefully lang, maybe maltby, and a prospect or two...

no and no.

Wings signed Osgood to be a backup- and he knows that, they have no quality goaltender in the system (Jimmy Howard is not ready for the NHL) to back up a new starter if they trade him.

Why would Chicago trade Khabibulin to a division "rival" (not so much in the past- season series last year was Det 7- Chi 1). Now I'm not saying they wont- who knows what the Blackhawks management is doing over there- but it Wouldn't be wise.

And from a Wings fan standpoint it looked as if Khabibulin had some trouble with the new pads last year. Especially the 5 hole.

However- with a solid team in front of him, I'm sure he wouldn't give up halfway through the season like last year.

I think it'd take a pretty damn good deal to even make the Hawks consider that offer. I'm thinking Lang, Datsyuk, Hudler, and a first rounder. I can't see that kind of trade going down within the same conference.

 Did I miss something there? I am no GM here, but I think that's what most NHL teams look for.

oh i know that, but they are going nowhere in the near future. It would be in their best interest to deal the wall for soem prospects. The wings signed osgood to back up khabibulin :)

The thing that is a killer is Habby's contract. If he doesn't come back strong then you have a a real cap killer as a backup goaltender.

i'm saying this now it will be Biron. with datysuk going away in the deal. besides zetterberg is a much better player than datysuk.

Dale Tallon (Hawks GM) had said several times that an experienced backup was a top priority. Nobody will take Khabibulin at his salary until he shows major improvement.

I think that Chicago is going to keep Habby for at least half the season to see if he can come back strong; unless they get a really good offer. They need soo much help in every aspect, I don't think Habby is a real issue for them right now.

Rumours have Belfour landing in Detroit to back-up Osgood. Check Snet for the article.

That wouldn't be too terrible for Detroit, because Belfour can play around 35 solid games.... But...... Osgood is Nogood.

I think Belfour would be an absolutely terrible back up. Remember when Turco got good in Dallas and Eddie had to split time? I don't think he can emotionally handle it. He needs to just retire.

Same thing in Chicago when Hackett was playing well, he's not a number two guy.
