How fast goes your slapshot

Recommended Posts

at the all star game in la (02?) their set up had me at i think 72. but thats with out skates, their sticks and no ice. in all honesty i probally couldnt get 70's on ice right now. roller wise i bet mines in the mid 80's which doesnt sound great but in roller i believe accuracy is more important the power

The brother of Kovy_Ribs_Fedo

I was with him yesterday when we were doing shots in the backyards and yes he really clock 87 MPH not on ice.

My shot was 81 MPH at 16 years old. I clock 81 once and most of the time it was 75-80 for me.

Well then it must be true.

Honestly, who's to care if someone says they shoot 110 or if they can't crack 50? Like Geki said, there are a lot of things more important than velocity to rate a player. To use the fact some shoot harder than a lot of NHLers is to say that everyone who can pitch over 90 should be in the bigs. A bit exaggerated but look at Gretzky--he couldn't break glass with his shot and he's who he is.

JR - I'm calling you out.... LOL

You tested your shot in Janurary. Odd that you left the results out of you speed posting.

There goes your rep for providing acturate info.

The type of stick shouldn't matter.

Chadd, you might have to back me on this one.

I shoot high 60's to low 70's consistantly, and accuartly, but when really push it I can shoot higher 70's, however, LOL, I rarley hit the net when I shoot that hard. A perfect slapshot, should be low and accurate, I can guarntee you will score alot more shooting for the low corners with a slapshot even if it's not that hard, then shooting harder at the top corners and as hard as you can because you will be missing 1/2 the time.

I was sure you used a bauer too..LOL

Are you saying that you can only shoot a certain stick?

For the Record...

JR was hammering the plastic puck 75 MPH in less than ideal conditions.

It was odd that in the middle of the bar he threw on a helmet to shoot plastic pucks. Claimed that it helped him mentally focus on crushing the soft orange puck.

Seeing as there are lot's of you in the retail hockey equipment business on this board, you can appreciate this.

The last time I took a bunch of kids out to test their slap shots....every one of them broke at least one stick within 1/2 hour. With about 5 kids testing their shots, they broke 8 sticks in that time frame, including 3 ops sticks and 2 shafts.

Moral of the story if you want to sell more sticks..sell more radar guns.

Were the kids hitting a lot of ice? I take more slapshots than any F I know but I don't break them anywhere near as fast as those kids.

Considering that was a hollow puck on a rubber mat, using an untaped stick that was too short, no gloves, no real room to wind up and a radar that seemed to not register a number of shots, I think JR's mid 70s and my low 70's to be not too bad.

They were practicing on a painted cement floor, with latex over concrete and using IDS inline pucks.

Once one of them put up a "big number" everyone else was trying their hardest to beat it and so technique went into the tank. Do you practice with a gun?, and friends who can shoot harder? That's what did it. I coached all of these kids for years, and this never happened until we brought out the gun...even with one timers.

I shot 92............... km/h which I dont know how to convert that into miles and that was with a ball hockey ball, power isnt as effective as accuracy and quickness, so kovy even if u shoot that hard dont be braggin until you get scouted.

I understand your message. But I'm interest to know how Modsquad members shoot also. And if one day I'm scout, I wish you will beleive me.

Note : My best shot ever is 87, but my slap shot average is about 79-80. I will try to improve that this summer thought.

MDE3--

Didn't really have radar guns around but I practise with some guys who could shoot hard as well. Usually if there was a goalie around we'd all just pepper him and hear whose shot felt worse on him. I can easily see how technique gets tossed away when kids decide to do the old grip-and-rip.

hey Kovy...I sympathize with your curiosity..every player I knew always wanted to know how their shot compared to others..whether or not it was significant in a true game situation. Some of us are just a little more "obsessed" with the "dream" than others.... ;), and this is not necessarily a bad thing. Good luck with it...I mean that.

:D yes ..wind ups were getting about 50' long. The drag on that floor is definitely greater than ice as well, and the sticks were all breaking in the shafts from trying to over flex them.

I don't get how you guys shoot harder with balls or inline pucks. I can fire a puck much harder, maybe it's because my technique is more suiter to ice because I take ALOT of ice when I shoot. Plus with balls and in-line pucks I tend to try and raise them too much and they don't go as hard. I wish I could clock my shot on ice, never had it done. The ball hockey one i had it done with was out back of some rink that I had an in-line tourney at. Just normal concrete with one of those "pick me up" sticks.

i know a kid that was bantam AA last year and at a skills comp shot 97 consistently i believe he shots were like 96,97,97. i believe kovy could probably hit 87. i can hit high 70's and low 80's and im not that strong, all technique.

It all depends also on your size until your maybe 14 or 15. Once your 15 or 16 maybe and above you might have a 6'4 guy shooting 80 mph, and a 5'10 guy shooting 90. But around when you start puberty of course theres guys shooting different speeds because they have different bodies. I'm 13, 5'4 and 145. Even though I haven't clocked my shot since i was a peewee, My shots probably from 60-70 mph. When i was about 11-12 I shot 3 slapshots that were clocked. The first 2 were about 37 but the last one I got right on the heel and it was 49. Many things affect your shot.

Honestly, that's nuts. Just look at the NHL skills competition. Those guys are stronger and better than you...and if your name ain't MacInnis, you're in the low to mid 90s.

I've never gotten my shot clocked. I'm 15 and not to brag or anything, but i have the hardest or second hardest shot on pretty much every team I've played since I started skating again (2-3 years ago). And yes, I do dream about getting it clocked one day, so does anyone here know a rink in the greater Montreal area with a radar? Thanks
