Vector Pro/7.0 Vs. RBK 8k

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i came back from the my lhs, and i saw that these skates are all pretty the same prices. I tried a 8 ½ D vector pro and they were almost too big for me, i'm skating in 8E 852..

-Vector pro 400$cnd

-RBK 8k 350cnd

-CCM 852(2003) 300cnd

-Fuel 85 300cnd

My best skate was my 1152 2003. I've got wide feet and never had pain in my tacks, now i'm skating in 852 '04 and i feel a bit unbalanced at my ankle, and if i tied them up i won't have the agility i want to.Now i see that i still can my hand on a pair of 852 '03 but is their better options??

Of all these skates, which would be better for my type of foot(tacks fitting silimar)and a medium to low-cut boot well same cut as ccm.(i can't get used to my last F10 boot-cut).

Thanks you for your times and giving me your opinions

maybe my question is too wide, what about the pro and cons of the vector pro and the rbk 8k.

That 8k seems like the best deal. Since the 9k came out 8k prices have fallen big time. Great skate for the price. Not too many cons with that skate, perhaps the wider midfoot wont fit you, but as for the skate, no problems that I know of. The 852 is good skate but 8k is much better. Vector Pro great skate but not sure why price is so high. SHould retail less than the 8k. Don't waste time on the 7.0, the pro is better, better liner, more comfy, lighter.. 8090 is good skate. Make sure it doesn't have the orig LS steel. Don't know squat about the Fuel 85.

thanks jimmy,I still think the vector pro isnt that bad, last week it was still 680cnd!

Do you think the 8090 has a similar fitting to the vector?

I'm asking these question because all of these skates aren't at the same stores, so by doing an elimination of skate i could end up going to only one store!

Don't forget that the tacks and vector skates fit differently also - I'm sure someone can give you the specifics if you need them (though I guess you've already tried on the Vectors and discovered this for yourself?)

i was going for a sharpening and saw the vector pro at discout price, i tried the skate that was on the display but it was a bigger size than my tack(i wear 8E) and it was a 8.5D so i can't really judge..but from what i know the ankle area and heel is more narrow and this is actually waht i'm looking for but with still a wide fitting foot at the middle.

ive used the 8K's for a few months now. they are very good skates.

pro's: pretty light, not the lightest but not at all heavy // they are very stiff skates // excelent padding, i have gotten hit in the foot with a puck and felt barly anything // extremely comfortable. // i thought they had a flat arch. i dont know if this is a fact but to me it felt like it. simple arch lifts helped me. // price. like someone said, the price of the 8K is going down. // the steel seems to be good.

con's: very stiff, if you dont like extremely stiff skates this could be a problem // i found the arch flat. could be a pro or a con depending on your foot. // my skates cut my ankle at the top of the boot. it rubbs there for some reason. probably not a problem with all 8K's. //

if you have any specific questins just post them or pm me.

Well, i got some money this month. and i can now afford a new pair.

My big hockey store is at 1 hours from me. So i want to ''clear my mind'' a little bit before going there.

-In Term of fit: Tack always fitted me. but i'm experimenting a problem with my heel on my 852 '04: They might be too wide at the heel/ankle area.

-Durability: I love skate that are stiff but can be broken-in like my 1152 were. Stiff, but still broken-in!

-Very Important: I want the same cut as my 852. which i think is a lower/mid cut.

I have 3 choice: vector Pro at 400$ 8k at 350$ and maybe another pair of 852 or if i have chance, 1052 or pro if i can find my good size.

Any Opinions thanks!

I used to have the zg130 which is the same boot as the vector pro. I switched from a tack over to the vector pro and found it be much narrower than the tack. I have since switched back to a new pro tack and the difference is night and day, way more comfortable and a much wider fit than the vector.

agree 100%

bought v. pro's love them, first put them on at a store felt great but after skating in them much narrower, but only hurt after I take them off so I'm ok with it

I own the 8K. It's an excellent skate with a great fit, lots of protection and tons of support. Very comfortable from day one. Not the best looking skate on the market but one of the best performing. My other skates are Easton 1300's. It's extremely hard for me to decide which skate I like better because the comfort factor and performance of each are excellent. From a personal point of view I'd say the 8K would be a great choice if your looking for a good skate. IMHO.

Umm. are the rbk made(fit-wise) the same as the vector lines?

Like I said, my 8E 852(2004) tacks are fine, but i feel a little gap at my ankle area. And if i do tight more my skate, I can't bend forward like i usually do, so i don't skate good.

Funny, i never had this problem with my 1152(2003) same size(8E).

Maybe my skate is just too breaking..

But is their a skate between those 2 vector or rbk that HAVE THE SAME CUT AS MY TACKS but with a narrower heel/ankel area?

Yeah I like my 8k's...more then I thought I would. They are a very comfortable skate with tons of protection. The break in period is short for a boot that stiff, well at least it seemed that way to me.

No, the 8k are not made the same as the Vector's fit wise. The Vector is much narrower in the heel and mid-foot area. They cut of the boot seems the same though. I had looked at both and even had one of each on at the same time.

I can't speak for the fit of Tacks. I've never been able to wear them, too wide.

Also, if you look at a Vector and RBK you can see the similarities.

BTW, good point about the arch lift. I've noticed that myself and think I could use a slight lift.

Overall, great skate imo.

I have vector 10s. A pair of RBK 8Ks in same size I just got for a friend overseas fit pretty much same. Both skates are very stiff and comfortable. I kinda like the looks of RBK 8Ks better. They also seem to be more durable than Vector 10s.

I'd take the RBK 8Ks over 2004-2005 Vector Pros since the latter ones (even though a tad lighter) have some issues, like delaminating outsole and the patches by the toe cap tearing off. Also, RBK 8Ks have a narrower heel. For proper fit on either skate go by the CCM online Fit Guide at www.ccmsports.com and not by what skate box say for shoe size.

I got the new model 892 tacks a week ago.. So far so good. I love the fit and the lacelock is AWESOME. I dont think I can go back to another skate without it.

i went from 1052s to vector 7s and my feet hate me for it. the vectors seem much more narrow in the midfoot area. i never had that kind of pain in my tacks. the vectors felt fine when i tried them, but have just gotten worse.
