KOR Shift 1 and 2

Recommended Posts

The $200 price from HG is nothing short of a killer deal. I paid $479 for mine 2.5 years ago and they were worth every penny.

I even thought about buying another pair of Shift 1's at this killer price, but I am already in Shift 2's which I like even more.

(give this serious thought before doing, though, as I'm not an expert.... although, I did stay at a Motel 6 last night....).

Hey, I thought it was a Holiday Inn Express that makes you smarter! ;)

I am looking for new skates and found this (long ass) thread about Kor Shift 1's/2's. I have super flat feet and am looking for a comfortable skate around $200. Sounds like the Kor Shift 1 might fit the bill. What do the flat footers think of this skate?

Also, is there any LHS around the Washington, DC area where I could try these on? I would take a 2 hour drive if need be.

i have a pretty wide flat foot and they fit me great. good luck you should love em. and remember trying them on at the lhs will only help with length really because the baking changes the whole boot shape

Was searching through some older threads and found this one which might be helpful to some...see post #116

"This is how I have done all of my fittings with no problems.

You want to try to heat them in a Graf/Mission style skate oven. In my opinion, the older style Bauer "tray" oven takes forever to get the Kor skates up to the proper temperature.

My suggestion to you is to lace the skates up until the third eyelet from the top, while leaving the lower laces loose, that way, when you pull each skate out of the oven, you can get your foot inside quickly.

In those ovens, I put the skates in and then start the timer at 9 1/2 minutes. The skates are going to many times hotter than any other skate you've put on when you go to fit them.

When the oven "dings", take only one skate out and make sure you kick your heel back nice and hard, making sure your heel is set deep into the skate. You will notice when the fitting is over, your heel will sit deeper in a Kor Shift1 than any other skate you have ever put on.

Lace the skate nice and tight, from the bottom to the top. Reset the oven for 1 minute. This should allow you enough time to get the first skate on your foot properly.

Once the first skate is on, now put the second skate on the same way. Once they are on, stand up. DO NOT WALK AROUND!

What you want to do is stand there and bend your knees, allowing your feet to move and form within the skate. Do this for 30 seconds on, 60 seconds off, and then repeat 3-4 more times.

Here is where you will need a second person to help you. You want someone to hand mold the outside of the skate to your foot. The importance of this is making sure the carbon fiber Unibaseâ„¢ molds to the shape of your foot. The laces aren't going to do this on their own.

Once you have done your "bends" 3-4 times (roughly 6 minutes), have a seat and rest for 10 minutes.

When you go to remove the skate, un-lace the skate as far as you can so that your foot slides right out. If you are forcing your foot out of the skate, you are doing something wrong! When done with the first skate, do the second skate the same way.

Lastly, and very important, once the skate is removed from your foot, lace the skate up to the top and tie them so that the ankle is formed in the fashion that you want. Keep in mind, the carbon fiber is still hot within, so, anything done to the skates, including lacing them, is part of the mold process.

From there, wait a full 24 hours before skating in them and enjoy!"

I recently picked up a pair of Shift 1's off of HG for their $199 deal. Here are my initial impressions of the skate.

So I got 2 hours on the KOR Shifts 1's last night. At first step on the ice, I was scared. I stepped out there, did 2 laps around the rink (pickup hockey last night) and went right back to the dressing room. Between the stiffness of the boot and my inability to truly flex the boot my first time out, I felt ALL of my weight centered over my heels. My anticipation is that in the coming weeks on these skates, it will adjust...and so will I. But none the less, back into the dressing room, took them off, adjusted the pitch of the Mission Pitch3 holders to +1 (1mm heel lift for a toes down profile) back out on the ice....and they felt MUCH better. They are going to take some time to soften up so I can get a deeper knee bend out of them and flex the skate and the tongue, but for the first time on them....they are an impressive skate.

This is honestly the first skate that I have ever skated on and had ZERO discomfort issues my first time on the ice. Even my beloved RBK 7K's I've had hot spots, or even blisters on my heels adjacent to my achillies tendon. KOR....honestly had a perfect fit. Incredibly comfortable skate.

The skate is a low cut boot profile, and is very stiff. It is going to be very interesting once they break in as I am very intrigued by the skate so far. Low cut to increase maneuverabilty, but very stiff in the lowers to increase support. I had zero support issues last night despite what felt like a deeper hollow that I have been skating on (I'm usually in 5/8, it felt like 3/8), and the boot being still new and my inabilities to truly work my outside edges due to the skate being still quite stiff. With the +1 profile though....the skate just wants to GO!!! It is a very explosive skate. I was not able to get my usual heavy toe snap at the end of each stroke going like I can on my 7K's, but that will come in time with more use and softening of the structure of the boot.

All in all being said.....this is the most impressed that I have ever been with a skate after a single use. I will not be using them in my games this coming week as I am still more comfortable on my 7K's as they are fully broken in, and I am still more stable and faster on them due to the less stiff boot structure. But I will be going for pickup hockey again this coming week to use the KOR's and continue my efforts to break them in fully. When I do....oh dear lord am I looking forward to that day. Everything being said.....if anyone is "on the fence" with regards to purchasing these skates.....I'd take the plunge. Fantastic feeling skates. More write-ups about these skates will come in time as I continue to use them.

Did you bake them? If not, if you thought they fit well now, just wait....

Hey Sreed...what size you're in your KORs...7Ks ?

7K's 8.5E

KOR's 9.5

Did you bake them? If not, if you thought they fit well now, just wait....

I did bake them once and they formed to my feet perfectly. I just need to work them in tonight while watching some tv or something. Stand around and do squats and forward flexions all night to soften the flex up. I'm just amazed at how stiff they are, yet the most comfortable skate that I have ever been in with regards to skating once in them. Simply unreal. B)

How's the volume for you? Mine are pretty deep for my feet but I think they're supposed to wrap more than your everyday skate. Here's how mine look on my feet -

Volume is fine....but I have goofy ass feet where volume is always an issue.....either + or -. My right foot has more volume to it than my left. To the degree that on my KOR's after tightening the laces to desired pressure, I have about 18" of lace left on my left skate, and about 12" left on my right skate. So far....so good. ;)

I would need a left 7.5 and a7 for my right foot...do they have the same runner/holder size..?

(like ccm 6.5/6.0 does) would HG send me two sizes...?

Ooops sorry SRI...no kidding...heard it before, that for about 50$ a LHS could sell a pair with two sizes...thought they would make a deal with the manufacturer/company...sorry for being uninformed maybe.

On a closeout model that has been discontinued? No shop would do that.

Makes sense...but I just tried and sent a e-mail to HG ;)

But another question Chadd: Would you rather go for the smaller or the bigger size in my case...? always went bigger...but I really would like to have the same snug fit on both feet...

Since the skates are half price, or less, you could always buy both sizes and have a perfect fit on both feet. I would say that the actual fit would be the most important factor in deciding the proper size. The smallest size you can comfortably put on your bigger foot will produce the best results.

I am in a similar boat with Spreedizzle. I was in a 7.5E RBK 8K and went to a 8.5 Kor shift one. My only problem is depth, I still don't have as much depth in the Kor as I would like. I have baked them once and used a heat gun to re-mold 2 spots.

They are the stiffest, most form fitting skates I have ever worn and I love the pitch 3 holders. Once my feet get used to them they will be amazing. I am still in my 8ks for the playoffs and I am slowly moving to the Kors in practice and Shinny. I still believe that these may go in the for sale section for a deeper boot because I do have cinderblocks for feet.

I may have to go with a flexlite or something but I will see how the Kor works.

I just received my Shift 1's from HG and I noticed that they came with TUUK Custom+ holders on them instead of the Pitch holders. I usually set my Pitch to -1 anyway so that is not a concern, but I am a little leary of how the skates are going to hold up since the Shift 1's are not suppose to fit anything but Pitch holders. (FYI-there is only 4 bolts in the heel of the holder and 6 at the toes) The boxes says maid in Mexico, but I thought all the shift 1's were made in China.
