CCM/RBK

Recommended Posts

I've heard a LOT on another board I'm on about CCM being phased out completely this season. Hearing that the next line of equipment will be the RBK Vectors, at least at the pro level. I'm wondering if any of you guys "in-the-know" know anything about this. I haven't heard much talk on here about this so I figured I'd ask.

You'd think they would want to keep the name. CCM is a strong brand name. Even though they are owned by RBK people might shy away from buying RBK Vectors just because of the name.

Wonder it they will do something like CCM Vector's by RBK hockey.

Well from the "people in-the-know" on this other forum they are talking about ALL CCM goalies gear being ordered with RBK graphics and whatnot. I recently heard that there are no more custom CCM Vector sticks that all custom sticks will be RBKs.

I find it odd that on this forum with a ton of people "in-the-know" are hearing different things that other people(mainly goalies) "in-the-know"

P.S. Chadd, or anyone else that might want to read some of these threads on the goalie board just pm me and I'll send you links.

Personally I think that's a good idea. Also with two brands you can have two complete lines of products that are REALLY different and easily tell the difference from(the 5/7/9K and the Vector 6.0/8.0/10.0). It might cost more in advertising but look what you have; Crosby in RBKs, Ovechkin in CCM how much good is that for your company?!?! Same thing as having Brodeur in CCM and Luongo in RBK! Basically they have the biggest stars in the game in different lines owned by the same company.

So you have the big brands:

Bauer(NBH)

CCM

RBK

Mission(to a lesser extent)

TPS(to a lesser extent)

Easton(basically only popular in sticks)

and a few lesser popular brands

and 2 of those 6 major brands are owned by adidas. Most people don't know that Adidas bought Reebok let alone that Reebok bought CCM. I still think that phasing out koho was a good idea(even though they made great products) but phasing out ccm is a mistake in my opinion.

Actually all of the bauer and Nike stiff is all Nike-Bauer for now. They're heading down the same slippery slope.

Here's one post that I could find link

Their search feature is just as bad as the one on here (searching rbk and ccm is pointless). So I'll start a thread over there to get their information all in one spot. :)

Yeah, I knew that i dont know why i put bauer instead of nike-bauer... guess it's just habit.

That's how things went here when we were bought by another audio company. There were concerns that customers wouldn't like buying our high end product thinking it was made by the company that bought us. They ended up creating a parent company name. Each brand falls under that company name. It lets each brand do there own thing without being associated with one another.

in my opinion that's the way to go. I can understand the RBK and CCM goalie gear becoming one because they are practically the same. Personally, if I was in charge the CCMs would have become renamed Koho pads(with knee rolls). It's a beautiful thing if you can have two different products that sell a LOT and not have most people know that they are owned by one company. Example: RBK 9K pump and the CCM 10.0/Vector Pro.

When searching for something, try using google. Use the advanced options and search only the specific domain, in our case modsquadhockey.com, and you should get much better results than using our search tool alone.

Perhaps on of the CCM guys can speak up, but I think the phasing out is just going to be goal equipment, not player stuff. Think about it, reducing advertising and NHL fees, etc can save a company a lot of $$ by just having one brand name.

And for the record, the Vector pads are nothing like the RBKs. Both are uniquely different. I've heard the CCM Vector will be called the RBK vector next year.

I haven't really checked out the vectors because that's not my style of pad. I presume they are similar to the RBKs but have a few differences. If only the goalie industry realised that not everyone wants a straight up butterfly pad :(

I was thinking about this when I left work. Wouldn't it reduce the amount of product? For example, how many shoulder pads can RBK market? They already have the Jofa line. Would they keep the Vector and Tacks line?

Exactly Jimmy it is ONLY the goalie stuff that's becoming only RBK because it's to a small market to be having to brands in the fight and RBK was so strong for us since the beginning. But CCM will not be phasing out in the player department.

Does anyone think that CCM will phase out the Tacks skate line? Even though its a nice skate and has been around forever.. it seems as though it has gone really stale from a sales prespective over the last couple years..

People have to think of it from a business point of view. Right now the CCM and RBK brands have to be supported with two different websites, advertsing campaigns, spokepersons, catalogues, etc etc etc. But, in reality, are people actually buying MORE product than when they did when it was just CCM? Or, did the RBK brand just canabalize some of its TACKS sales for RBK Pump sales? If RBK didn't grab any Nike, or Bauer, or Mission customers when it released its skates, then it didn't actually increase its number of customers.

Therefore it doesn't make sense to spend all the money of advertising two brands, when one will do. Would any of us really not buy RBK Vector gloves because they don't say CCM on them? I somehow doubt it. And RBK knows this.

I know I wouldn't, but some might. "Hmmm this glove says nike-bauer and this one says rbk, RBK is new and bauer has been around for a while so they probably know what they are doing" ...it happens

IMO CCM and Bauer are untochable names in the world of hockey but we'll see what the futur has for us.

Does anyone know 100% if the 07 Vectors will be RBKs or CCMs? Also, if they do become the RBK Vectors, will the fit be the same as 05 and 06 Vectors?

100TH POST!

well from the results of both threads it appears that the goalie line is the only line changing. And I would imagine that if they ever/when they make that change that the only difference will be the logo and basic design changes.
