Taking off the logos on my helmet?

Recommended Posts

I have a jofa 690 helemet, and I want to take off all the places where it says jofa (front, and both sides). What would be the best thing to do to remove them? My brother told me that pvc primar would work. What do you guys think? thanks.

nice pic JR.... btw, if its black, I just used black eletrical tape,a nd it matched perfectly, well on my 5000 it did. For a roller team, we were sponsered by Nexed, and we couldnt have any logos, so they told us to get rid of all logos. I did the same, took a heat gun, put it on low, and just scraped it off with a plastic knife, and then took a rag, and whipped it away

I used to try nail polish remover but it didn't remove it completely. You can use coloured electric tape. I used in on my red helmet when I needed it. It worked good.

My helmet is white. I tried white electrical tape over it but you could tell. I think electrical tape only works good with black helmets. Anyways later I am going to try to do the heat thing.

Try using some sort of source that produces steam. I used a tea kettle and a butter knife and it worked great.

Well I just heated up the logo, and tried to scrape it off, lol well it didn't work so well. So I stoped, lol. Nothing is really wrong, just I wouldn't have it smooth. Well my dad just hot home, and he said I should use some fine sand paper, so he just took off the first logo with fine sand paper and it looks good. I just thought I would post this if anyone else needed to take there logos off. I think this is a lot easier, and it looks better in the end.

Try mineral spirits. It can be had at any local hardware store (in the paint section) for a very minimal price. It is usually used to take paint and stains off of many different types of surfaces. It should remove the logos off your helmet without a problem. This method will also keep you from having to scratch the helmet to get the logos off. You can use a paper towel to apply the mineral spirits.

Alright, I got all the logos gone except I got a problem with the one I tried to heat up and scrape off. When I did that , I seemed to push some of the black logo into the plastic deeper. What do you guys suggest I should do? theres about 4 black lines, 2 about a 1/4 an inch, the others are smaller. Do you think I should use some kind of paint to put over, or maybe white out?

i've used paint thinner n it works alright

Your helmet is no longer certified since you used chemicals on it, I hope you don't take a shot to the head.

Wouldn't painting it void the warrenty (sort of like when you put a sticker on your bucket)?

I didn't even know that. But I don't care about the warrenty really, this is my 3rd jofa helemt(3rd because of team colors.), and all of the seem to be really nice.

What if you use a sharpie to black stuff out? And as a referee, do you call a penalty when the player as ineligible stuff on their helmet; I.E. Stickers that are not approved.

The stuff that hockey shops use to remove heat-press numbers and letters, that stuff works on helmet logos too (and Tuuk logos, for that matter)... it may be mineral spirits, not sure... but it does void the warranty, same as stickers, or I would imagine, electrical tape. Never tried the steam method, but if it works, then that might be the safest...

They are not legally allowed to play. Apperantly stickers void the warranty of the helmet and thus aren't covered by the majority of leagues insurance policies. Normally a ref will spot this in the warm-up and send him off the ice, if not I believe it's a 2 minute minor and he'll be sent off unless he can get a "proper" helmet. Similar to the illegal stick rule.

The certification stickers, HECC, ect, all are supposed to be on the helmets. Stickers such as team-logos, numbers, are fine. But if you encounter a referee that anal about a helmet missing the HECC sticker, just laugh and accept the penalty. I can't imagine anybody calling that...

If a referee lets you play with a helmet that isn't certified, it's his ass if you get hurt. When I ref, I'm anal only because I don't want to face a lawsuit.
