Bauer MBP 8 Vapor

Recommended Posts

I'm wanting to get the Bauer MBP 8 Vapor girdle. The kind you need a shell with. The only other option I even know if is the CCM Pro.

Id like to get these sort of pants because the ones I have (Bauer 6000's) seem to big and bulky.

Are the Bauer MBP 8 Vapors less protective? I know theyre alot lighter. I'm one of the bigger guys out on the ice for my age group so Im not to worried about less padding.

For you guys that have the pants, Is it worth the change? Because $110 plus a shell for a girdle seems pretty high for hockey pants.

I use an older model bauer MBP and really like it. Because they fit so close I feel more streamlined, you definitely notice that you're carrying less bulk. But then again it may just feel that way because they fit so close.

Though I wouldn't know how protective they are since I haven't played contact in years.

The girdle shell combo is infinatly better then standard pants. The fit is snug so you don't feel that there is a gap between the pant and you. I used to have the old bauer black one but that one has since disintergrated after five years of use so I bought the new CCM pro girdle. Absolutly love it. A buddy of mine has the bauer MBP8 and loves his. Both are the wrap style which is really convienient.

As long as you don't have to worry about getting hit with pucks or hard checks they're fine. You get the same level of protection from pants that cost about 1/3 what the girdle and shell will run you.

i have the older black on that the guys are talking about, and i loved it, but i had problems with the hip protection. Im not sure what level hockey you play but if you are a "bigger" guy you may have the same problem as me. My hip is level with where the boards stop and glass begins and i always get my hip really good on it and it never seems to protect me enough. Other than that i love it and kinda hate to go back to pants but the swelling of the hips is not worth the added movement when its not swollen.

i hope that made sense

You should definitely consider the Tackla 4000 girdle. Ive worn the Bauer MBP 8 and the Tackla is lighter and more importantly it has better protection.

Im not to worried about the protection. Ive never gotten hurt from a hit. *although that may be because I had protective pants*

But I think my pants are just so dang bulky and big I just hate them. Are the CCM Pro's giving more protection around the hip area? Maybe that would be the better route then going with MBP 8's

And thanks guys, this info is great.

I would not recommend these. I'd try either other girdle models or regular pants.

They have lousy spine protection. With time some minor padding falls out and could be easily lost in the locker room. The belt twists pretty soon and stays that way and that's uncomortable. I hurt my tailbone in them while checking a player. Even sneezing was painful then. Plus they are a pretty old model (though doesn't seem to be discontinued yet) and definitely are overpriced. There is absolutely nothing in them that could be worth over $110.

I prefer to play in my Cooper Techniflex pro I bought on e-Bay for $35 a few years back. Those are a bit lighter and comfy.

I had the same problems with my Bauer girdle. The belt twists and I lost alot of the padding overtime which was annoying. Had to put socks in at one point. Id go with the Tackla. Lighter than the Easton and CCM and protection is outstanding.

Why don't you just buy a new belt? Most LHS will stock a hockey pant belt. The NBH MBP hasn't been changed in years because it works very well. All girdles and brands have their pros and cons given the life of lycra combined with your sweat. I always tell players looking to buy a girdle that the protection will be better than your pants since the pads will stay where they belong when you most need them but to get ready to sweat since all that lycra against your body is going to get hot fast. If you are not playing high contact hockey, other than PP, do you really need a girdle?

Aren't you primarily a roller guy?  That may be why you feel that ice pants are bulky.

Yea thats true. In roller hockey I dont wear a girdle so I feel like I can move my legs faster. I dont like these big bulky girdles slowing me down. But its ice season now so I need to get a less bulky girdle. I think Ivan's comment pretty much steared me clear of the MBP 8's. I might go with CCM Pro's? Or my friend has Missions M-2. They look really thin and light. It doesnt look like alot of padding down low but the spine protection has plenty.

Also Reebok 6k girdle are like a newer type of girdle. The arnt exactly the padding with a shell but its all in one. Its like the super light padding and the outside shell just attached, but it has higher spine protection.

Been using the MBP8 girdle for years without any problems. I also own the MBP but haven't worn that one for a long time. Never had any issues with pads falling out.

Mission's girdles aren't as protective as some of the other ones. they'rem ore made for inline hockey than Ice. Mission's Pants, however are pretty good. I've got a pair of M-2 Pants that do the job nicely. They felt a little bulky at first, but after I adjusted the way I was wearing them, they don't bother me any more.
