Rule changes allow larger curves - Retail impacts?

Recommended Posts

With the NHL Board of Governors allowing larger curves in sticks, will we see this in retail even though USA Hockey and Hockey Canada haven't approved them yet?

Should be entertaining to see what pro-stock stuff starts coming out.

I don't see USAH making a change. Word has been that they feel a larger curve is not beneficial to developing hockey players. It makes it easier to be an individual but it is much harder to pass or catch passes on the backhand.

The big curves we have now are not popular as it is, so I don't see bigger curves flying off the shelves. At the end of season, I mostly only have the big curves remaining. I likely will not order any extreme curves.

I know I stay away from big curves, and especially those that are very open. Of course anything more than a Sakic is big to me. The last thing I need is a boomerang hook on the end of my hockey stick.

Oh - retail question - I think if the stick has the right brand name and the right player's name on it then it will sell, regardless of how ridiculous or not the curve is. Of course this doesn't apply across the board, but is often the case.

All I have to say is that I love my Lindstrom curve :)

All my teammates love it too and agree that it is probably an illegal curve.. but we all know that the best things in life are illegal ;)

Isn't a Sakic already a pretty big curve?

Sakic is bigger than Modano/Forsberg for sure, but it's not on the extreme end of blade curves. There are some pretty crazy curves out there, whether it be the amount of hook on the blade or how open it is.

As someone who doesn't use one I'll just say the Sakic's a banana.

its like a coffey with a little bit open toe.

I think the coffey is more curve at the end than the Sakic.

Yea.. One of my friends was with me when I was discribing my curve to another teammate who was looking for a good wrister curve..

He asked if it was a heel, mid or toe cruve.. my friend Dave stepped in and said "all of um".

In case anybody was wondering According to USA Hockey Rule # 301(B)©:

(b)The blade of a player’s stick shall not exceed 121⁄2 inches

from the heel to the end of the blade, nor shall the blade be

more than 3 inches in width at any point nor less than 2

inches in width.

©The curvature of the blade of the stick shall be restricted in

such a way that the distance of a perpendicular line

measured from a straight line drawn from the base of the

heel to the base of the toe to the point of maximum

curvature shall not exceed 1⁄2 inch.

Now a ref who will call this is another story. I am sure that they are few and far between, but don't get caught holding an illegal stick if you get to take a penalty shot. They have to measure sticks before penalty shots.
