xxx question

Recommended Posts

I recently got a pair of vapor xxx skates, but the graphics look a little different on them (they dont look black and grey but more of a dark purple and grey). I have been told that they stopped production on them in canada and moved them to factories in taiwan. Is this true? or did i recieve a pair of knock offs if that is even possible?

Just to compare between the Canadian made/older XXX's to the newer ones, my older ones definitely have a purplish tint while the newer ones are only dark gray.

I've also noticed that the XXX at the top of skate is smaller on the newer ones and the flex dart is less pronounced. The new ones also seem to be slightly wider in the forefoot.

when i compared it to the a new pair of junior xxx's it was significantly different. But it could also just be a colour fade cause the skates have been well worn, the shell is cracked through in multiple spots.

Sure looks like the tendon guard is popping out of the liner inside the boot....looks like those things have not been aired out after wearing. I have seen this with skates thrown in a bag and not dried out. Notice the rusty rivets too....

umm maybe ask before you assume.

yes that is tape on my tendon guard. why? bored and threw some black on one and yellow on the other to match jerseys. And me skates get the insoles pulled out and hung to dry after every ice time. I take excellent care of my equipment, but i also use it well. I've had my XXX's since Feb/march of 05, and have worn them roughly 3-4 times a week since.

So you have had the skates for about a year and a half....don't look too bad on the outside for that amount of time....but the rusting rivets are concerning for an 18 month old skate that is always aired out and well taken care of. I heard rumors about the quality of the rivets, and if what you say is correct, this is an indication of lower quality hardware....that is somewhat disappointing. I have heard of people going to the LHS and having the original rivets replaced for better ones.

Thanks for the pics...good enough to see the gash on the boot. What I have done on my Vapor XXX skates is use clear protectoe on the quarter panels and a few layers on the toe to see if the boot will last longer than most people have experienced. I also have a pair of Supreme 8000s I got on the cheap in BC.
