Elbow Pad Rash

Recommended Posts

No swimming pool....would a hot tub work? I think I'll try every single suggestion, no way in hell anything is ever going to grow on these damn pads again.

I would assume the ratio of chlorine to water would be the same in a hot tub as it would be in a pool, so I'm sure it would work.

Straight up Under Armour doesn't work. I was that regularly, so I don't think that its the problem, but I'm really interested in giving the Puckskin a try. Is it tight fitting or loose?

but wouldn't the heat be a negative, as it can hurt durablity? not sure on this one

personally I'd bleach them...let them sit for a while....maybe 30 mins to an hour. rinse them out really well.....then air dry them with a fan, rinse them again...let them dry again. Then throw in a freeze bag and freeze them. That will kill everything, smell and bacteria.....at least for a while.

I bleached my stuff once, I then found out I have a very bad reaction to bleach :D Try oxyclean or something comperable.

Putting equipment in a pool...eh?

I'm gonna have to try that one out soon...the chlorine doesn't have any bad reactions with any of the materials does it?

An interesting follow up- I finally bit the bullet and saw a dermatologist today. After trying basically ever suggestion- freezing, pool, cleaning, ect., I'd had enough. She told me that she wants me to switch elbow pads. In fact, she suggested that I only get Nikes. The University of Oregon's football team has been having rash trouble this season on their gear, and out of every brand they've used, Nike is the only one that hasn't given them any sort of rash problems. She was going to go talk to the trainers, and she told me I might have to go down there and get checked out by the team doctors to see if there are any similarities. I just thought that was interesting that she suggested I only use Nike.

She probably owns stock.

Or her husband/significant other is a Nike rep!

Kosy, did she say whether it was psoriasis or eczema?

She said she thought it might be a fungus, but she wasn't too sure. My rinks been shut for a few weeks now, so its kind of gone down. I have to go back in when it gets worse.

I have a strange rash that I thought was most likely from my elbow pads. It didn't bother me so my Doctor wasn't all that concerned. I did notice that it hasn't been as noticeable since I went to wearing a long sleeve shirts under my equipment. I might look into Puckskin.

I caught this on the inlinehockeycentral.com board and it reminded me of your troubles...

Avoid Febreeze on your eqipment. It is a chemical, not a disinfectant, it will soak from your equipment into your skin. Not good. I have seen infections from using it. Best bet is naturally dry it out in the open air. The cleaning systems that are out there do work well. I have used Esporta with a great deal of success. I now use something called Tri-Lex, actually designed to clean our firefighters gear here at work. It is the same principal as Esporta. An actual enzyme is injected into the gear and it eats all the odor causing bacteria. Do it once a season, or every ten weeks, its worth it.

So maybe using febreeze in your gear is causing or has aggrivated the problem. I personally won't use the stuff because it makes the gear oily and never comes out but here's another great reason to avoid it all together.

I have a considerable amount of testimonial emails in response to this issue. PuckSkin is a great first layer, that acts like a shield against the bacteria in your gear, thus clearing up rashes and other skin irritations.

Also, there are some very large Amateur Hockey Associations that are looking in to adopting PuckSkin as an official safety layer for minor hockey players.

We are available to do presentations to Parents, Trainers, and Safety commitees of minor hockey and amatuer hockey associations.

As far as I know, we are the only base layer brand with this dedication to safety, comfort, and performance.

cheers,

gb
