Prices in Sweden compared to Usa and Canada

Recommended Posts

I think it would be pretty interesting to compare prices on hockey equipment in Sweden vs Usa/Canada. Iv'e got the feeling that it's much more expensive to buy equipment in Sweden/Europe than it is to buy i North America, but i might be wrong...

What's the regular retail prices for following stuff in US/Canada.. (US dollars)

One US dollar is approximately 7,8 Swedish krona (SEK)

Theese are the prices in Sweden

Skates: Bauer One90's 4999SEK (640usd)

Helmet: Mission Intake 839SEK (108usd)

Shoulder pads: Jofa/RBK 8K 1189SEK (153usd)

Shin: Jofa/RBK 8K 1189SEK (153usd)

Elbow: Bauer EP 8000 689SEK (89usd)

Pants: CCM HP Pro tacks 1169SEK (118usd)

Stick: Easton Synergy SL grip 2699SEK (346usd)

Pretty expensive huh?!

Distribution makes the difference.

Easton has terrible distribution in Europe, +stupid rules for buying stock. makes all Eastons products way overpriced. e.g. If you want to order a easton skate model in a specific size you need to order like 100pairs in that model in that size! (as told by a LHS owner)

CCM/Rbk has good distribution in Scandinavia, but tend to be a little overpriced.

Bauer is pretty much American prices + shipping in comparison. Bauer only store around here gets all their gear from a Bauer Storage facility in Europe. So they get stock faster and cheaper compared to other brands.

Warrior's just terrible. The german distributor handles orders from some of the other countries, since he functions as their Rep (in some cases). Prices are decent though compared to most of the competition.

These are all things I've heard from the owners of 2 different LHS's

That is expensive indeed, but part of the "secret" is also that the sales tax in Sweden is 25%, while it's typically only around 4-7% in the US.

 Whoa, that must really jack up the price.

Anyways...Out of the prices I know off the top of my head, the One90's and and Intake are fairly close to the US price, but that SL is waaaaaay overpriced. The 8K stuff is also about 50 USD less here than in Sweden as well.

I agree. Prices in the closest LHS to me are (same items):

Skates: One90s (£445 = $848 US)

Helmet: Mission Intake (£88 = $167.70 US)

Shoulder pads: Jofa/RBK 8K (£120 = $228.69 US)

Shin: Jofa/RBK 8K (£120 = $228.69 US)

Elbow: Bauer EP 8000 (£79 = $150.54 US)

Pants: CCM HP Pro tacks (£79 = $276.31 US)

Stick: Easton Synergy SL grip (£198 = $377.27 US)

I believe that Australia equipment prices might be as bad as our's too, maybe even worse. Damn currency.

All you guys in Europe and Austrailia are getting stiffed by your governments by the ridiculous taxes. Its not much better here in Canada but a least its still more reasonable than over there. It's a real shame they tax all the stuff that gives people enjoyment in life but the think tank guys have made it that way to help the government boys fill the coffers. Talk about users, they really take the cake.

It replaces a manufacturers tax... at least here in Canada it does... and I believe that was based on a European model. Helps keep exports competitive.

Because you get up to six weeks of vacation annually and have socialized medicine, among other things. In the US, the average person earns two weeks of vacation annually and, last I saw, about 38% are without health insurance.

It would be interesting to see an economist research what the net difference is between the two systems. Maybe a 12% tax rate is equivalent to four weeks of vacation, while an 8% tax rate is equivalent to socialized medicine, and so on, whereas we pay for those things after tax over here.

Six weeks? Jesus. Including shared holidays I'll bank about 7 weeks leave but they lump sick time in with vacation time. Alaska's Sweden's not as evil as it is shitty, twin.
