Fletch

Crazy Lecavalier pic....

Exactly, we all do it. We just don't have professional photography at our disposal.

A friend of mine teaches at a shooting clinic...he always asks the kids "where do you push toward when you shoot?" they almost always answer..."the net" then he tells them to push into the ice...that is what creates the flex in the stick and lets it do the work (if your technique is right).

*edit - Most of us do it.

If you've seen some of the beginners I'm coaching you'd know that they couldn't flex a 40 flex... We're going to have to work on that.

Yep, that's definitely a wrist or snap shot (probably picking the top corner) in the warm up.

Anyway, from a photography point of view, I like how that picture was taken from the catwalk directly above Lecavalier... and using strobes, to get a snapshot with the stick flexing... WOW, that took some timing skill!

Also, I think in the main menu of NHL07 (for PS2) there's a picture taken directly above Ovechkin shooting.

I believe the pictures on the Gallery are digital video stills.

The pictures in the NHL Gallery are digital photos not video.

It isn't that hard to get a picture of a stick flexing if you know what you are doing. Good digital camera (with high fps) and a good lens helps. Now lighting is a whole other story.

i was using an int. stealth last season, took a one-timer and a guy complained to the ref that my stick was broken cause it flexed to much. And i was a weed then, so im sure most people do it, just usually the only pictures we get are from a phone, so no luck there.

I made a conscious effort today to take notice of how much flex I get on wrist shots....and I'm getting next too none.

I'm 5'8"-5'9"...160-170 lbs...and I'm using a 100 flex stick. I'm thinking I should go back to my 85. (or start lifting weights).

I find that my stick seems to flex more when I play roller than when I play ice, Everyone says they want a stiffer flex for Ice, but I've been considering a softer flex for it. That or fix my shitty technique.

You have to shoot at a tiny fraction of a second with a remote flash to get these images with flex. NHL fotogs are seasoned pro's at this - it's tough niche shooting.

That's true. The remote flashes (called strobes) take about 4 seconds to recharge after each shot, so you need to have good timing to get a good photo like that. If you don't use the big flashes, it's easier to get a shot of a stick flexing (since pro cameras like the Canon 1D can shoot 8 pictures a second! :D ), but the colors won't be as good and you may not get a good focus on the player.

I thought these sticks are supposed to have a low kick point but all the picks show that they just bend in the middle where thier lower hand is.

If I'm not mistaking, kick point is closer to blade, flex has to do with shaft...
