Cascade Helmet?

Recommended Posts

Searched a bit on google and this came up. Some interesting info that may or may not be true...

i was at work a couple days ago and the shock doctor rep was in talking about some ridell lacrosse helmets. he was talking about the concussion rates dropping, how we should get them...etc. anyway he then went into talking about cascade is now getting into the hockey world.

basically this is what i picked up from him:

-the EPP foam that is used in gaits, cascades and all high end hockey helmets are great for helmets because if you get hit, you won't get killed. bottom line. the only thing is that EPP foam sucks because it is a harder material and for guys who frequently get concussions.

-softer materials (almost like a very thick shell) or bunga pads are actually put in helmets for guys who have lots of concussions. such as tony granato and eric lindros. in both cases, concussions were season damaging injuries.

-the helmet from cascade for hockey will not be a helmet that will compete with bauer, ccm, rbk, mission right off of the bat because it's a company that is mainly known for lacrosse and rafting sports. they are a company that will sell direct and have a 24-48 hour turn around time. which in the sporting goods world, is AMAZING!

-the helmet is going to have it's own unique feature that will rock the hockey helmet industry. it hasn't been done before and this will put them miles ahead of any helmet maker.

-the ad is going to say, or to some extent, "concussions have met their match". basically since this helmet will be so protective, they are pretty much saying because of the design and the features. you won't get concussions.

i know this is the lacrosse forum but it's nice to see a mainly lacrosse company expand into other markets. IE. warrior with hockey. also i know that a lot of guys on here play some puck, and i would rather support a company that i trust over anything. how cool would it be for a cascade hockey helmet!?

Of all my customers over the years, NONE have gotten concussions. Concussions are not a big sales factor. Looks and prestigue are. If they are trying to sell their customer on the concussion prevention of their helmet, it will be a bust.

I guess they don't hit too hard in NH. Some of your customers have gotten concussions, whether they know it or not.

As for the Cascade helmet, they stopped by the shop on Thursday. These people have done their homework on making a better helmet in terms of protection. There is no point in entering this marketplace if you can't. Cascade owns 90% of the lax helmet business. They are using a new technology for interior padding systems that I will let them roll out and explain properly. Their new website is supposed to be online at the moment. The helmet does allow for conventional front hinge mask attachment, compatible with all mask brands. They will offer their own mask, in a similar RBK/Jofa design style. The helmet is adjustable from the back, behind the ears. This is different than anything on the market. The helmet will be available with custom team color options in a 3 part design with a 48 hour delivery turnaround. The helmets are made in the USA. Suggested retail on helmet only is $120 US and $140 US for the combo. They will be launching finished and certified product at Toronto OneGoal.

Your wrong, they hit hard here as well. Just the FACTS are, current helmets are doing the job at concussion prevention. There is no miracle helmet, just like no miracle skate that makes you go faster. You just get too caught up in hype, don't you. Tell me, did you get a "free" cascade hemet too?

Of course they hit as hard in NH, you fool! I never mentioned any "miracle helmet", did I? But you know what jimmy? These people have statistics and testing which they will share with you personally! They will give you all the FACTS they have that you will demand on seeing to back up their claims. Now, please have a beer and get a good night's sleep. You must have been standing at the wheel breathing skate dust a bit too long on a busy Saturday in your shop.

You are just too easy to accept hype as fact. Testing, .. is that like the LS power testing? BTW, still waiting for those independent test results. Nevertheless, yes, I would like to see how Cascade helmets have prevented more concussions in HOCKEY. Show us the independent test results, not manufacturer hype. Lets also ask hockey players and get reviews fron hockey platers who have used Cascade helmets. My point is, don't get caught up in manufacturer hype. Let's wait and see till the proof is there. If I believed evety sales hype there was, I'd be out of business.

You never said if you got a "free" helmet. We NEED to know this before we can take your "reviews" with a grain of salt.

And yes, I did suck in about 200-300 pairs of skate dust today, including a bus load of NJ junior players. I'll let you know tomorrow if the NH wimps kicked their but or not. As far as I know, no concussions with the inadequate NBH helmets.

#1. I did not receive a free helmet so please shove it. Maybe if you treated your great CCM/RBK sales guy even nicer, he would give you something free to test. I don't see why any other vendor would give you something free to use.

#2. Re-read what I wrote. It is an informal description of the helmet make-up, its ability to custom color, and accept all brands of masks. If that is a hype job to you, then I really should be a copy writer on Madison Avenue. You bought the hype that I didn't even bring to a helmet just because I said it was new.

#3. Regarding your analysis of helmets as "currently doing the job at concussion prevention", you might want to check out a small North American professional hockey league called the National Hockey League. It seems this year a few of their players have missed games due to concussions. They might have even been wearing a brand of helmet you sell in your store. However, please don't let the facts get in the way of your sales pitch.

#4. Just how many skates did you sharpen, 200 or 300? We NEED to know because if you cannot get your own numbers and facts correct, we will take anything you say "with a grain of salt."

#5. I am interested as to why you do not call out all the other informal product reviewers(JR, Chadd, Mack, OldTrainerGuy, and others) on this site. I never see you reply in the manner you do to me, to anything they post. There must be a reason so please share it.

#6. Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn.

JDub,

The black thing is the front plastic of the helmet. The mask would attach there. It's one of the three separate areas available to custom color.

Is that ok with you, jimmy? Facts, plain and simple, no hype.

We got a look at the helmet as well. I was very impressed. Love to the custom team color options. There is a reason why they are #1 in lacrosse and I believe have put together a very nice business plan to head into hockey.

Helmets today doing the job for concussions?! Tell that to half the players on my current team. I have had 3 concussions, all with different helmets. The helmets today are NOT doing the job.

i would say that concussions are probably the most common injury in hockey right now. i see 3 or 4 concussions every year playing minor hockey. concussions and collarbones...

Helmets are some what doing the job for concussions.

Know matter what helmet you have on, if you get hit hard enough you will get a concussion.

I don't think theres ever going to be a helmet thats going to be "concussuon proff"

Well, you DID book Hefter helmets.

Regardless of how Helmet A is X% more likely to reduce concussions versus Helmet B, having a helmet is definetly better than not having a helmet at all. The last time I checked, wearing a helmet is mandatory, at least here in the U.S. What's the most common head injury in sports, class? That's right, Jimmy, concussions! I wonder why Cascade would ever use that as a marketing tool (concussions have a new enemy)... Hmm...

Also, with that said, a mouthguard is also very important to stop jaw fractures/concussion, so it's not just the helmet that can help people who are concussion prone.

EDIT: And, before you ask, no, I don't have documented proof that concussions are the most common head injury, I just think that they are.

No I did not. Their minimums were too high, especially for a helmet that we couldn't touch or feel.

Oh, I could've sworn that was you.

Nope. Hefter is a perfect example though. And the point I was trying to make is it's way to early to be posting comments on something that's not even available yet based on one sales meeting with the vendor and hearing their pitch.

BTW, Northern Cyclones 7, NJ Rockets 2. :)

Going by their history in lacrosse and their exemplary customer service to my shop, I'll be glad to be first in line to order their new lids.

err, I don't care who plays out of your building, you made some snide comment about NH players not hitting or something like that. I was just pointing out that they beat the NJ team bad. You are in NJ correct?

I hope someone's mother makes s'mores for us all before bed after this pillowfight. I can't wait to play Bloody Mary once the lights are off.

Northern Mass runs a great program, plenty of college prospects on the Jr. Elite team...

But it should be noted that the NJ Rockets have struggled lately with 5 players from their opening day roster currently moved on to USHL teams midseason.

Not really making a point for anybody, but there's always more to the story.

jimmy,

The funny thing in this thread is that the joke is on you. All I did was mention seeing the helmet. You took this post as another opportunity to trash me. Your comment about "helmets currently doing the job at concussion prevention" was enough to spur other members to add to the thread. At the end of all this, Cascade gets the last laugh. You provided them with more time at the top of the page in the equipment section than they could have ever hoped for. You didn't hurt their cause, you helped it. Way to go.

I'm moving on. I've got more important things to do than waste any more time with you.
