Road Trip in Continental GT

Recommended Posts

Well, awhile back me and my Dad we're offered to take my uncle's Bentley Continental GT (Mullinear sports package) for servicing. Deal was we had to take it from Delta (Canada) to Seattle (USA, duh) so it made for some good times on the road. It is quite the car to drive, first straightaway it pretty much sent me to the back of my seat with authority. About 30mins after passing the border we got pulled over by the cops, my dad who was sleeping at the time, woke with a start and immediately asked if I was speeding... I wasnt at the time though (I would be doing that later under close supervision). Story was that the piece of paper showing the insurance info had fallen off the back window and he let us off with a warning and on we went. We then continued on, we pushed the Bentley to 165mph, thing did it effortlessly, and even maintaining that speed it reallly felt like we were not going that fast. Got to the dealership, saw quite a few nice cars, the one Flying Spur had some crazy rims with some sort of mahogany finish, you can't really tell in the photos, as my picture taking skills arent that good and niether are my photoshop skills. Anyways I had alot of fun behind a beautiful machine and I just wanted to share my experience with the rest of you! picture links below... can't really see it in the photos but the Diablo had carbon fibre everywhere, especially in the interior B) Turns out that the Diablo is the 6.0 SE and only about 30 were made in that colour.

B-E-A-UTIFUL car. You are very lucky good sir

I had the privelage of driving some very nice cars over the summer. I drove an Elise around an Autocross course, the thing was so nimble i couldnt believe it. Defied the laws of physics. And i also got to drive a Ferrari F430...unbelievable. Words cannot describe the enjoyment of driving this car.

Now if only i can get my hands on a Veyron....

The new Bentleys sure is quick for such heavy cars. My grandpa has had a Flying Spur since it came out and loves it more than anything. Luxury cars arent my cup of tea, but the Conti GT its the right vehicle to make a trip like that in.

The elise is a great car on the track, but it isnt half as good on the street. Certainly isnt the car to be daily driven.

The F430 is a wonderful car, but take a Challenge Stradale for a spin if you have the chance. Greatest Modern Ferrari.

Veyron is garbage. Not fun to be in, at all. It drives like a luxury car. Accelleration is out of this world, but it doesnt cut it for me. I want something nimble, not roll like a tank.

I would hope a twin turbo W12 would be quick.

The F430 is a great car. Its a great replacment for the 360 (as the starter Ferrari). The 360 was a very poor car. It was too slow and handeled poorly for the price. The F430 is sexy and has some great numbers.

The veyron is not suppose to be a super car. It was built to be a very luxurious fast world class car. It has load and loads of power (as a quad turbo 16banger should). Its the fastest production car, and one of the heavier ones at that. It is a remarkable car, it is not easy keeping a car like that on the ground at such high speeds. It is a status car and a touring car, not a track car.

Does he drive his car around Richmond a lot? Me and a buddy raced a black Continental GT on the Richmond highway coming back from the Vancouver Airport in the beginning of September. Bit older guy (maybe 50's) with a moustache and short hair graying a bit?

Yeha, not something i would ever want to own...but just something i would like to experience.

Also, i forgot one. My uncle just got a C6 Z06 bought a month ago. VERY quick. Interior was garbage, but for the price, its a really fun car to drive.

nope, not him, he probably wouldn't drive his prized possession in such a manner, for him its more of a statement, like hey I drive a Bentley. Might I ask what did you race that CGT in?

The F430 is amazing, one of the better Ferrari's as of right now, dont forget about the 599 GTB or the 612 Scaglietti (albeit a little more pricey though).

looks like Sean Avery also has a CGT Sean Avery cribs

2003 Cobra with a built motor (324" stroked/bigbore teksid) with ported GT supercar heads, and THP twin T67's. We were just running 20 psi for 104 unleaded so it was "only" making about 1000 RWHP, lots of fun on wide open highways where you can actually get traction at 160 or 170.

If you want to talk nimble, my same friend is building a GTM Supercar from FFR. C5 Corvette suspension, with the motor mounted in the back through a Porsche G50 transaxle. If you go with an Aluminum block motor you can get them to 2300-2400 pounds with a driver in them. I already helped him build the motor for it, LS7 out of a new Z06 re-sleeved with forged 9:1 pistons, ETP heads, big cam, and a 3.3L whipple. Made 950/950 on the engine dyno, it's going to be sickeningly fast in a little 2400 pound car. All we gotta do is hope the G50 stays in one piece :)

Didnt get to drive it, but i was lucky enough to snag a ride in the press car Bugatti sent around to possible dealers all over the US. I could tell how it drove just by sitting in the passenger seat. The car itself is huge, and superheavy. The steering response seemed a bit delayed.

The car is an engineering marvel, no doubt. But at $1,000,000+ its not at the top of my list.

Indeed. That house is real weak.

Atleast Avery knows his shoes and is sporting a undftd hoody.
