Sherwood RM9 or RM19 ?

Recommended Posts

So, one of my friends knows a guy working for sherwood and he can get me a custom RM9 for 70$ CND and a custom RM19 for 130$ CND. Those prices are pretty good, i know...

I'm wondering if the 60$ difference is worth it? I have seen and touch the RM19 and it seems like an awesome stick but looks a bit fragile, like the SL. 130$ is a lot of money for me so i'm asking for opinions. The RM9 looks like a tank.

I know most of you guys in the states have never even seen a Sherwood stick but i think a lot of players from junior teams are using Sherwoods...

Anyway, thanks!

Yea, we all use plastic street hockey sticks here. I think JR mistook his stick with a wooden spatula at the Detroit skate..

I own 2 and they are commonplace at about every rink that I have been to.

Well, sorry guys, i tought for some reason that Sherwoods where not very popular in the states so most LHS were not selling them. My bad, i never wanted to insult you guys, BK especially :P

So, has anybody even tried an RM19? Like i said, the stick feels very very good in my hands but looks a bit fragile.

My featherlite snapped last night :(

Right where my bottom hand was. I guess I put too much into my slappers.

OSTOR, i appreciate your comments, that's what i think too, but i'm looking for someone who have tried these sticks. My bad if you have.

I know the RM9 will probably last longer but if the RM19 is 200% better and that it's worth 60 bucks more, i'll take the risk and pay.

And sorry, i really can't get you one.

Well coming from someone who has snapped one in 2 months I would go with the RM9.

The RM19 is great and all but it sounds like your going for a stick thats gonna last a while.

So you did use an RM19 and snapped it in 2 months? What about the performance, is it comparable to an SL or another high-end OPS? The RM19 will have a very high price tag as far as i know...

anyway, where can I buy RM19 stick?? I can't find it anywhere. please let me know. really want to try it. thank you in advance

It's not out in stores in my area yet. And sherwood used to be a local company, wtf?

so I went to my lhs yesterday to buy myself a Christmas gift... my personal rule of thumb- every 5 gifts for others = 1 gift to myself! haha...

I went in looking forward to really checking out either a Sherwood RM9, or an RM19. Much to my surprise- they had the new RBK 7V Sickick in.. I was rather excited, but the more I looked at it, the less impressed I was. It wasn't nearly as light (big whoop) or balanced as the RBK 6K (the neon green/black one) which was $10 cheaper.

The RM19 is real nice. It should "woo" all of you light-weight freaks. Great feel, good balance.. they had 3 different variations of the RM19... Coffey, and 2 other players who's names slip my mind right now. (I believe Dulac was one of them) Some of the RM19's were clear (no grip), and a couple had what was printed "Medium Grip" with was a slight tacky surface, combined with a textured composite like the NBH Supreme One90. Keep in mind, the RM19 is SOP, so these were probably made to my lhs' specs. It was priced at $219.00, which was a little out of my range during the holidays.. plus, I was a little leery dropping $220+ tax on a stick that the verdict is still out on.

The RM9 is just as nice, weight aside. A little heavier than the RM19. Lil blade heavy... As I've mentioned before, my brother has had some really positive experiences with the RM7, and with a price tage of $118- I went with the RM9 in a Bouchard pattern... it looks relatively close to my Warrior Fedorov blade, only it's a little wider, and more of a rocker on it than the Fedo. I cut down about 2 inches off of it, and just for shits n giggles, in case any of you were curious if you could pop a blade in it when it breaks... I managed to get 53 inches of a tape measurer in before I hit what felt like foam/sponge. The taper on the RM9 is pretty thick, and a lot closer to the blade than my other OPS', so who knows... you might even be able to get a standard blade in there.

I'll be taping it up in a couple minutes, and using it tonight... so shoot me a msg if you want anymore feedback on the RM9.

see, with a $60 difference, I might have been worth checking out for me... but at my lhs (see my post) there's a $100 difference between the RM9 and RM19...

My LHS has quite a few RM19's they actually have some custom RM19's that are really sweet. One extra long length 75 Flex that looks great for a taller player.

all the RM19 are "custom" or SOP's... yeah, the ones I saw were really, really tall sticks.

Does anyone know where I could buy an RM9 online? No one near me sells them, I found hockeygalore.ca had some but they wanted a lot for shipping. Are there any other sites that sell them?

Thanks

I have played with both the RM9 and RM19 and although the RM19 is a better stick its not durable. Sheerwood made the RM9 to be a durable, affordable one-piece. If your looking for a stick that can last go with the RM9.

Here are a few stores I have found online:

http://www.hockey1.com/products-result.asp...cturer=SHERWOOD

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/sherwood-one-p...key-sticks.html

http://www.totalhockey.net/tab2.asp?call=2&tp=

In case the links dont work the stores are: hockey1.com, hockeymonkey.com, and totalhockey.net.

I personaly use an RM9 now and love it. It is in my opinion one of the better ops on the retail market.

Just bought Jason Chimera's RM19 he broke at the blade, has anyone cut it to a shaft? where to cut?

Also bought Brule's broken DOLO, going to try to pop the broken blade out, would a pro used DOLO be harder to do this to?

You can easily remove the blade from the RM9/RM19.

Just "cut and gut" the blade out.

I wouldn't exactly call the RM9 durable. I went through 3 in roughly 6 months, all with the blades going horribly soft.
